I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but could someone explain the joke about Sukiya being better than Daikiraiya please? I'm guessing it's because suki means like and daikirai means hate, but that's just a guess.

I went to a restaurant with a friend who told me she loves natto but that it's best to eat it in your room. I didn't really get what she meant so I ordered it anyway. I liked it but it was too embarassing to eat as it was really stringy!

I then understood what she meant about eating it in your room.

I'll have to try it again when I'm feeling less self-conscious.

What's the deal that virtually any Japanese will be surprised if you say that you eat natto?

That's weird, virtually they all act the same way.

Because natto is strongly an acquired taste, only one area of Japan actually likes it. So if a foreigner eats it and enjoys it, it's a huge surprise to a Japanese person because most Japanese people don't like it either XD
