  • Makes Me Feel Proud Of Being In Europe

  • Greetings from Slovenia.

  • @Hordebrotherhood And those interracial relationships are purely out of fetish not love, and purely out of uncaring spite rather than respect of the native culture. Not all IR's are like this and I respect those who show respect.

  • @CorRomeister The leftists will never do that. They're a lost case here in Sweden. The only party here, who will actually do some good are the Swedendemocrats, but they're constantly being bashed on by ''anti-racists'' who are accusing them of racism, nationsocialism etc. It's tragic, but now more and more people are seeing the truth, and are voting for them.

  • @Hordebrotherhood And I meant the whole of scandinavia, not Iceland particularly. The leftist parties should at least bring back a sense of pride.

  • @Hordebrotherhood Tragic. And a shame. I am not biased against interracial relationships, and I have nothing against blacks, muslims, or asians... but with a country that has such a rich history and culture, it should be respected, and at the very least, taught with a sense of pride. Instead, many foreigners criticize it, and they turn around and go and try to force open the legs of the native women and as a result alot of interracial relationships have occured... and for all the wrong reasons.

  • stolt av å være en Årviking!

  • im waiting fo the heavy part ???

  • Wow!

  • @Hordebrotherhood i agree with you brother , sweden face the same problem , im proud to be a part of the wikings

  • @timpa666 if only more swedish ppl thought that during the 12th centuary. but we dident so christianety destroyed allmost all of the old swedish culture. dont you see? christianety is the enemy not islam.

  • @Hordebrotherhood

    i totally agree with you

i believe people should contribute to strenghten the lesser countries so that their citizens won't have to run away from their homes

in this way - if a person choses to live in another country, it will be out of wish to explore the culture and be a part of it - and not out of lack of choice

that way people will be more respectful to each other.

  • Such a cool song!

  • I love this! :)

  • I want to Move to Norway but I like Iceland too its really cool

  • Icelandic music is so dark, I can't tell if it's happy birthday or a funeral march!

  • SKYRIM!

  • @Rymdreg CANTFUCKINGWAIT

  • I'm icelandic and I have never heard such a good tune to this song ! It describes the desperation this song referres to so well. One of my favorite folksong, always has, always will !

  • No totta jumalauta on hyvä! Jag tycker.

  • Thumbs up if When The Raven Flies brought you here

  • @Majnore Þungur hnífur

  • RIdum, Ridum yfir sandin..

  • Eg elska denne sangen :)

  • What does the name of the sound mean?

    Thanks

  • Denna sång är jättebra!!! Kul att lyssna)))

  • I like this song!!

  • This is supposed to be a happy tune... Lord knows what an aggressive, war-like one would sound like. I imagine little Icelandic girls listen to this when they pick flowers:P It must be intense, having to kill dragons at the age of 5 and then go out and pick flowers. Iceland... damn...stay awesome.

  • @LemonDancer It reminds me of last week: like a little Icelandic boy, I was playing with action figures and my happy play session with kids toys degenerated in sheerful carnage, with Sabertooth killing more than 10 soldiers with martial arts, claws and one wooden club. I imagined each blow, impalement, slashing and throw in gory, painful detail and the plentiful articulation of the figures was used to reenact each move. I'm not Icelandic, but this song would fit well.

  • @LemonDancer this is not a happy tune, it's about a man riding alone in the night on sprengisandur hoping that he will come home alive...

  • @Varghalur Still awesome. Stay awesome, you awesome Icelander.

  • @LemonDancer Thank you ^^

  • This sounds exactly like Ridom Ridom by the Falconer.. did they base their song on this? I guess it's on Nordic folk music culture after all.

  • @jumpibumpi They covered this song, just with Swedish lyrics and a rock orchestration.

  • @jumpibumpi

well the song is know in iceland as ridum, ridum... author H. Óskar Kjartanss omniglot.com/songs/icelandic/sprengisandi

  • @jumpibumpi Ridom Ridom IS Á Sprengisandi, only that it's spelled Riðum Riðum in Icelandic.

  • @NotOnlySelfLover Mostnon-Icelandic speakers don't have the ð on their keyboard. I look around the english equivalent.

  • 6 need ice in ass

  • Good song. Greetings your very close brothers from Norway!

Somehow, I was always hoping for Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Sweden to be one, But I guess many don't want that and its not realistic xD But still, we are just the same people.

  • @lortexx We could just call us Skandinavia ^^, what a great country that would be.

  • @lortexx

There are many who would like it. It's just that the EU pays our politicians so well that they'd hate to give that up in favor of their neighbours :)

The time for idealists appears to have died out. Personally I think it's pointless to unite Scandinavia unless we start honoring our own culture again, which we pretty much suck at currently.

  • @lortexx

People were talking about the European Union - Perhaps to think of Scandinavia as a union of countries could be great

The fear is of losing some different cultures and languages that developed -

if there could be a harmonic union without losing the diversity this could be wonderful

  • i wish i was icelandic... i like vikings and medieveal stuff :/ this is a crazie song

  • no omg omg no take it off take it away

  • im gay

  • gud va bra musik får lust att grapa min yxa o sköld o rusha mot fiendernas land o starta ett krig :D

  • Ah this rouses the old Viking blood in my veins!! :)

  • @MrAshToast you dont have viking blood

  • @Peppepoppldoppl I am half icelandic. So I do.

  • @MrAshToast cool. im faroese

  • Ah, that explains :)

  • Oh Scandinavia, the land of my ancestors.

  • @S0ryiu Scandinavia isn't a land... it's a few countries in Scandinavia

    unless you were joking?

  • @DezparE I was being metaphorical since I have ancestors in both sweden and finland... it was supposed to be lands but the s was left off for some reason.

  • starting to become a big fan of Icelandic Folk Music, love it :)

  • Čo k tomu dodať, veľmi pekná hudba.

  • veit einhver um simfóní útgáfuna af þessu lagi?

  • could someone recommend me real volkmusic from island? thanx

  • @burningsleepless Krummavísur is a good one to start with, gets you used to the feel of their folk music. (though I prefer Finnish folk myself there are several standout Icelandic folk songs)

  • @S0ryiu thanx a lot..ive heard a bit but unfortunately i dont know any band or any song... but thats a beginning :)

  • @burningsleepless when it comes to folk music most songs are so old their writers are long forgotten, many singers preform many variations on each though so shop around untill you find a version you like.

  • @S0ryiu In the old times, writers didn't put their names on the book they wrote, or the song in this case

  • Älskar stråken :)

  • Somehow this song makes me think about big vikings riding around on a beach on small icelandic horses :P

  • @Nationalisten men det stämmer ju enligt låtexten, ridom ridom..

  • @Idellle

Hehe jo men jag tänkte på filmerna Korpen Flyger, Korpens Skugga och Vite Viking.

  • @Nationalisten xDfunny :P

  • Brazil loves you ICELAND!

  • Text long

  • Against our people is conducted covert war .. The enemies want to destroy using vodka and cigarettes debauchery. But we will not give up!.In our spirit is strong as in you. You, too, hold on and not give up, thank you. I'm from Russia (the North).

  • @Egerize north east north= scandinavia

  • @Egerize previet

    hope i said that right

  • I like the Icelandic language.Your people are very fond of freedom, like all true vikings. Icelandic people are not numerous, but very proud, I respect you for it.You are a good fisherman. And despite the protests of Denmark and other countries, you're true to yourself. And I like the melody of the Raven, "Krummavisur" it seems.Hard for me to write in English, an interpreter translating:).Sorry.

  • Is this song popular in Iceland?

  • awesome. iceland always fascinated me

  • eh, någonsin hört Nordman - Ridom Ridom?

  • Bull (ox), the Eagle, a dragon and a man on one an island. This makes sense. :).

Это герб ? (This coat of arms?)

  • @Egerize

The picture is the iclandic coat of arms; the bull, the eagle, the dragon and the giant.

there is a story about a scout from an enemy nation trying to find a good place to invade iceland, checking the northern, southern eastern and western coasts, but running into one of these creature on all locations, thus having to return to his king to let him know that iceland cannot be invaded. :Ð thought you might want to know :D

  • @olivinator Thanks for the explanation. :)

That is, not through the air or by sea, nor on the ground and enemy spies did not penetrate to Iceland. Can you ask who is the enemy of Iceland? .. or who in the past was the enemy of Iceland?.

  • @Egerize The kind of Denmark.

Icelanders have always been great poets and some made poems and songs that insulted the king. Therefor he wanted to invade to punish the Icelandic people.

Iceland was an anarchist democracy at the time so there was no ruler over Iceland witch made it possible to invade without trouble.

  • @PllSteinar sorry to butt into the conversation, but does the fact that Iceland was an anarchy mean that the ox, the eagle, the dragon, and the giant didn't protect it after all?

  • @SuperSeaCucumber They didn't serve anyone. They just protected the land.

Do you think that if Iceland had been a kingdom they would have been more willing to protect it?

  • @PllSteinar well, I don't know anything about Iceland, but yes, I think that if it had been a kingdom its people would have been more willing to protect it.

  • @SuperSeaCucumber I think you misunderstood me.

I wasn't talking about the people but the "guardians".

  • @PllSteinar oh, I did misunderstand. uhh.....well, if they were guardians of the land, then I don't see why they'd care whether there was a kingdom or not. wouldn't they just protect the land as they saw fit?

  • @SuperSeaCucumber Yes, thats what I've been saying.

  • @PllSteinar hmm...but then if Denmark invaded, would the guardians keep them out? and also, if they don't serve anyone, why are they on the Icelandic coat of arms?

  • @SuperSeaCucumber I don't know. They didn't invade so there's no telling what they'd do.

And they're on the coat of arms because this story kept the Danes from invading.

  • @PllSteinar ahh....i wonder if they mind being on the coat of arms..

thanks for putting up with me for a bit :3 i learned something new today! Happy new year :)

  • @SuperSeaCucumber No problem. I'm always happy to educate people about my country.

Gleðilegt nýtt Ár (Happy new Year)

  • when i think iceland i think of a magically harsh landscape that few could habitate. not only are the people badass, but the language reflects a deep mystical connection with the natural forces, something i think many civilizations have lost. this music captures that vital spirit.

  • I love this!!!!

  • Amazing song *From Færeyjar :D*

  • @hatemegnoob its not from Færeyjar

  • @911Dagur i mean't it was a great song, and i live in faroe islands(færeyjar)

Like if could have said Great song *From where you live*

  • @hatemegnoob Oh well sorry, thought you meant it the other way. :D

  • This tune is serious business

  • @IrishLincoln This tune indeed puts national anthems to shame.

  • @meliante2 No argument there. It's freaking awesome!!!!

  • @IrishLincoln Ja, any nation should be proud of having a song like this in its folklore.

  • @IrishLincoln you can find wayyyy less serious business versions :D

  • iceland in my bottom of my heart wish i can go there...

i will get my house there someday i hope and i will pray for it day and night!

  • Playing Castle of the Winds to this. xD

  • 5 people have never roamed a realm outside of reality

  • Öflugur, elemental - bara ìslensku... (I hope to have expressed it properly...?) ;-)

At least it`s a great song! Greetings to Iceland!

  • So strong, bold, elegant. Truly a fantastic piece of work!

  • A thrilling yet peaceful song. I love it :D

  • Wotan!!!!

  • Can someone post, what CD does it come from?

  • @Jantin1 Let me google that for you "Á Sprengisandi CD". Do you know what google is?

  • does anyone know where i could more of these types of songs. i like the enrgy in it...it puts me in a trance...seriosly i feel like i am in a fantasy book

  • @tdredz2 Yeah, music song tells a story... amazing!!!

  • @tdredz2 Type in folk music in YouTube and add a country name in front for example: Danish Folk Music or Hungarian Folk Music or Irish Folk Music.

  • @tdredz2 you could try Norwegian folk music, it is cool and similar to this stuff. I am in the same trance, I feel like I have delved into a fantasy world and it`s great.

  • @tdredz2

Please, did you get any answer? If so, let me know please.

  • @tdredz2 The lyrics are epic too, but these instrumental versions are all over youtube, just search for icelandic folk songs in instrumental

  • Iceland is great beauty. The only thing i miss there, is the deep, green forest...

  • @einherjen You can find some forest on iceland. But it's not like the forest in Norway or Denmark or any other country.

  • @robloxguggi yeah i know... Not not REAL forest i my book tho :) I heard, that Iceland once was almost covered with pineforest much like norway. But after humans landed there 1000 years ago, they lumbered it all. Pity - tho its still an amazingly beautiful place.

  • @einherjen Yeah but there's still some pine forest left but not as much as 1000 years ago. But i don't like having as much forest as Norway or denmark. You have no view of anything

  • @robloxguggi hehe, you are right you have some breathtaking views - most beautiful country i ever saw. Maybe because i havnt been to norway yet, cant say :)

  • @einherjen Well i haven't been in Norway either. But i say Iceland is beautiful. Not that other countries are beautiful as well. But some are horrifying to look at

  • @robloxguggi Du taler godt dansk, guggi? Bor du i DK? Yes, there are many beautiful countries. I´d fx love to see scotland and canada. Rough nature, theres nothing more beautiful. Tho dry and sandy nature doesnt do it for my - its a matter of taste i guess. And i like to keep cool :)

  • This is respect! Kveðja frá Svíþjóð.

  • @CrocoPhant88 Du fra Sverige?

  • @robloxguggi Ja, jag är från Sverige =)

  • @CrocoPhant88 Svedigt. Jeg er fra Island

  • @robloxguggi Mig langar að fara til Íslands Ég hef lesið í íslenskum skólum. lol at my grammar i guess =P.

  • @CrocoPhant88 Wow. Umm actually that was perfect.

  • @robloxguggi Hehe thx!

  • I like this song very much!!! I´m German and don´t speak Icelandic!!!

  • @AntheusHagazus I'm Icelandic and i speak german Lol.

  • Nur ein wunderschönes Volklied

    Dia duit! :D

  • @lunatician1 HAHAHAHAHA godt!

  • it makes me feel like a warrior

  • @Bobriki sure does :)

  • Ridom, ridom, jagom över sanden

    Solen sjunker bakom Arnafel.

Här är mången mörkrets ande å färde,

nu när det skymmer över jökelns is.

    Herren lede springaren min,

    dryg är sista dagsleden.

  • Den här sången påminner mig om vikingaskepp som seglar mot vinden mot miklagård för att ta blåmän som slavar.

  • Ék for innj i skauen idag for ò ve ängen po andra sidan leda efter skaufyler ò dräpa, alltmedan denna sangen hördes allomkring.

  • Try seeking another version: "Pelican - A Sprengisandi (1974)"

    Fantastic guitar playing.

  • Grímur Thomsen visited Dr. Sigvaldi at his home (Kaldalón) in the 1920's, with the text to this very famous song. Dr. Sigvaldi sat down at his Piano and wrote this beautiful song. It is a classic, especially when you understand the words, which are missing here. They are about the hardness and dangers in the Icelandic highlands. This song is not a Folksong in that meaning, but it is fast becoming one of our best folksongs. Belonging to all of us Icelanders.

  • Love it :)

  • Does anyone have MIDI file version of it?

    That would be greatly appreciated.

  • Interesting version, like it better sung though.

Although there is an instrumental rock version by Pelican that I quite like, I think strong drums and electric guitars go well with the tune and while this was all grandeur and orchestral splendour I want it to be more agressive, espcecially towards the end...

  • cool song :D. Which is the artist/ album or / and what is this genre called because all other Icelandic seems to be vocals I rather have somthing like this.

  • Hi ProDjo, this is originally with vocals, this is the backing music (I think adapted a bit) to a famous tune of the same name..

I don't like the version with lyrics, I prefer this, but it wasn't written as an orchestral piece.

  • thx for the reaction

  • *sing* "Ríðum, ríðum rekum yfir sandinn ... "

  • Island !!!!!!!!Erstklassik!!!!!!!

  • what a great song! iceland forever!

  • @6430913

    Takk!

  • could you teach me some icelandic?

  • "This song is cool"

    "Þetta söngur er flottur" /

    "Þetta lag er flott"

    :)

  • Þessi söngur er flottur* :Þ

  • This is song is classic. But I'm starting to hear it less often. It kinda makes me sad.

What bugs me a bit is that, the instruments used in this version of the song arent originally icelandic. Well, there aren't any instruments originated from Iceland except the icelandic violin. And the song is quite better whith a choir singing it.

  • Ganz super!Liebe Grüße...ein Islandfan!!!!

  • Groovy

  • i loved it ! great melodies, very impressive

  • Omg-- ! where can i get this melodi and hopefully more of this kind of musick ?

  • Very nice music.I would like to visit Iceland.

    Greetings from Serbia and Montenegro.
