Hi, would you have any sound patches as a wav file i could have? I just bought the ob-xa but all the patches are gone. Tried a wav file from the web which should be the factory setting but it fails to complete loading
everybody thinks 'jump' was played on an obxa (because they saw van halens video of it) 'jump' was actually played on the record on an obx (sem based so no curtiss)
run through a marshall stack (eddie van halen interview in 84)
Beautiful stuff my friend. Love listening to all your vids.I'd love to have one. Tell you what, I'll swap you my drum kit for your Oberheim.Hows that? Only joking. Its a lovely machine.
Increible en verdad, no solo tocas bien; también logras "transportar" y hacer soñar, que creo que es la parte mas dificil.. saludos desde la Ciudad de México!!
There's something about the sounds of these synths that really takes me back to the 80's. I remember that there used to be tons of music that made heavy use of these synths then and for some reason that music has fallen out of style. I think the artists of the days used these sounds because they were but that synthy style of music is stil great. i wish we'd hear it in movies on commercials and in recorded are more. It's still underground I guess like this video
Just to say that in the end I thought there was something unusual about the advert and I didn't buy the second hand OBXa... Thanks for the advice though!
I've seen an Oberheim OBXa for sale -thinking of selling things to get it. Advert says it's in good condition, but what can I expect from it, as it's early 80s. It should work fine, but could there suddenly be problems with the oscilators, or other parts? Are they expensive to repair? I've read they have CURTIS chips, but now they are more difficult to repair, aren't they? Also, they are 70s/80s classics, but how does it compare with the newer OB12 which is stabler + more patches?
I'd take an OB-X (with midi) over the Xa, but this sounds great too. I have an OB-SX which uses the same chips as this one but it only has 12dB LPF, and is very limited in tweaking possibilities. Still, the sound is inspiring.
I've got a Juno 6, and I used to spend many a (mashed) evening doing white noise filter sweeps on it. Cranking the res up to make whale song was another favourite :)
The OBXA is fatter than the OB8. I think it is in the chips used. The OB8 has more stable tuning. I have owned both, the OBXA is the fattest synth I have ever played.
Sounds like something the Stranglers would have written for a spaghetti Western. the Stranglers keyboard player use an OBXA on albums following BLck and White
Would you buy a 6-voice for$2500? I know they came in 4, 6 and 8.

Bonita pieza, si es tuya muchas felicidades, además de tocar bien, compones bien. El sonido es como de Tangram Quichotte de Tangerine Dream

I have my OBXa more than 20 years and i had only one time a defect in the power supply.
Sometimes i have to clean the voice card connectors, but they are easy to clean.
The VCO chips/voice cards are very stable and are still in good condition!
It is difficult to compare the OBXa with the OB12. The OBXa is full analog, the OB12 is virtual analog and in my opinion no real Oberheim!
Is it an 8 voice OBXa?

Thanks, they sound great machines - build to last!

this synth is the one that a software cannot reproduce the sound of this legend ^^ the phase and the tremello of the osc are so unique.
