All joking aside, I can't help but wonder if this reflects Jim Henson's relationship with his staff. (Mr. Henson was of course the voice of Ernie.) And whatever idea the great Mr. Henson had, his staff had to bow to it, even if it sounded strange. If JH wanted something, his staff had to give it to him.
The idea of the light switch being across the room for the lamp is not uncommon. It is so the person can walk into the room and turn on the light immediately. Also, they didn't have digital glow in the dark clocks and watches back then.
Good point. Also, Ernie should buy a watch for himself that has light in it where the time can be seen easily when it's dark, and he should keep that watch next to him at bedtime.
Ahahahahaha!! Ernie sings "O Solo Mio" off-key, and wakes up everyone on Sesame Street! That's one of Jim Henson's funny moments that'll be sorely missed. **sigh**
He wakes up Bert to find out what time it is, after saying, it's too dark to see the clock, too dark to find the light switch, he has the nerve open to window and start singing and ends up waking others in the neighborhood.
Maybe the reason why Ernie went to the window was because, he was very close to it, and he was able to find where the window was because he saw where the moon was.
When Ernie sings "O Solo Mio" off-key out the window, I believe it caused those neighbors from Sesame Street to start yelling at him to quiet down because they were trying to sleep.
The noise might be the ending of one of the skits that came before this Ernie and Bert skit. Maybe as soon as that other skit ended, part of the noise came onto the beginning of this Ernie and Bert skit as soon as they were changing skits very fast.
That's a very good point. However, I wonder if there was an episode/skit where Ernie and Bert met for the first time where they decided to be friends and move into an apartment together. Another thing I wonder why Bert chooses to be friends with Ernie and live in an apartment with him if Ernie is always bothering him when Bert wants to read, sleep, count, etc. Especially, most of these Ernie and Bert skits have a happy ending for Ernie but, a sad/angry ending for Bert.
Yeah, that's hysterical. And look at Bert at the end. All you can see are his eyes staring above his blanket, and yet that alone is enough to tell he is thinking like "I can't possibly be awake right now. This has got to be a bad dream. Someone wake me up!"
Yeah, certain words even for little kids are "inappropriate"... you couldn't even say "fart" when you were a little kid, it had to be "poot", which sounds... weird... lol.
@GroverKent I don't understand why this comment of mine was marked as spam... I was merely adding on to the point about how "inappropriate" it is so say things like "shut up" on a children's show.

It would have been funny if someone came over and smacked Ernie. Ernie again? How many times does it have to happen?

There is a lamp on the table near the clock Ernie. T urn on the lamp look at the clock and do it quickly befor poor Bert gets mad!

Weird, but funny.

Too dark to find the like switch but not dark enough to go over to the window and sing loudly across the neighborhood.

Elmo yelled shut up. You could see his apartment! Or it was probably mr. noodle...
tbrady99 2 years ago 2
They didn't add Elmo's apartment to the street until 1998; but yeah, that's the general area where it was later placed.

Solution: Get Ernie one of the those digital alarm clocks that glow in the dark that is if they have them at the time this sketch was made!

moatguy 3 years ago 5
Yeah, I didn't realize that they could get away with it.
MiyahSummer 3 years ago 5
The only other clip I can remember someone yelling "Shut up" was in the News Flash Rapunzel skit.
Yeah, so strange they actually got away with it, as for some kids, saying "shut up" is grounds for getting their mouths washed out with soap.
