Wow!

I came here after listening to a set of variations on the same theme by Paganini and I have to say, I much preferred this set and I was bowled over by your playing.

I was also struck by the name of the place the concert was held. There is a chap from Somerset West who has been writing interesting letters to New Scientist magazine for years. Seeing this will prompt me actually to find out where Somerset West is (I know it's in SA somewhere).

she is the tone. the flute is mearly a way of expressing the tone. You can't give that flute to a crappy player and get the same sound, so the flute doesn't have good tone. :)

This is just my personal opinion, nothing laid in the stone, but thus far I have found that I am not fond of her tone. I think that this piece is flawless but some of her other pieces, although near technically flawless, hold a certain quality  that seems to agitate me.

shes really good, rock solid technique. We so seldomly see wooden flutes in the unites states, they look so funny to flautists who have been accustomed to metal istnruments. They look so much thicker, since the bore is the same size but the walls are thicker so it looks thicker and bigger on the outside. Are wooden flutes made with open holes, or no?

i agree, the wood really sounds warm. my private teacher told me though that even though it is impossible to reproduce that unique sound with a silver flute, you can actually buy a wood headjoint to recreate similar effects and tone. i'll look into it more and tell you about how to order one and how the headjoint can be specifically adjusted to fit your flute.

No, metal flute sounds 'metal' and more bouncing, while that of wood is 'solid' and less bouncing. Listen to James Galway's 20 K flute or Pahud and you find no sign of 'wooden' sound at all. They are another kind of charming and beautiful sound, and you can't compare them.
