Actually, RPG wise it's ok. Many RPG's don't know the state "death" and rather have it that a character falls unconscious when his hp reach 0, he would still get exp after the battle and his hp would reset to 1. It also makes sense to still get experience for just having been in the battle, whether you fell unconscious or not.

The one that is in this video is Seiken Densetsu 3 for the Super Nintendo. It's a rather popular ROM since it never got released in America besides through translations on the internet.
