It is most likely named qwantz because that is a unique identifier. Just like xkcd.

@SomNewAgeRabbitChia One quick google later and now I know what a unique identifier is, thanks! Given Ryan's education in Computational Linguistics, I'd say your theory is a pretty safe bet.

You should have asked him why it's called "qwantz"! I've always wondered that. Was it just an available domain?

@Riflemanm16a2 As I recall it was because a) no way in hell was it already taken, b) it's very memorable, short and easy to type!

I met Ryan North last weekend at New England Webcomics Weekend, and he was so damn nice and happy. Now I love his comic more than I did before.

@extrokurt Awesome! Yeah, Ryan is a pretty cool dude and I certainly feel lucky to be friends with him.

Your opinion on the "comic arms race" is actually spot-on. Indie-cred is coming up as the new reserve currency in the Internet age.

This is pretty true! Have mercy though, it was my first interview and the temptation to chat was hard to resist given that Ryan and I are friends.
You might want to check out our Burlesque special for a much briefer and tighter interview in which - in which I remember to keep mostly quiet! :)
