He was a hell of a player...high lottery pick if i recall..i was into collecting cards when he was a rookie...had his card a million times i always remember he was a shooter like a mothafucker...deadeye.
When did this become an attack on me. I wasnt saying anything bad about Respert OR Anderson Hunt. What am I doing?...typing a response to your comment. I know for a fact Anderson works or has worked cooking in Vegas. Do you think being a cook is a negative thing? Open your eyes and think before you speak. This is not the meaning of my original post.(to argue with someone who probablly agrees Shawn Respert and Anderson Hunt were excellent ball players) This video cheers me up. Quit arguing???
I'm sure you all remember Anderson Hunt from UNLV(90-92) Him and Shawn Respert stick out in my mind when I think college basketball "stars" who no-one knows today. I believe he cooks food in a fast food restaurant now in Vegas
he works for the Houston Rockets now and doing very well. what are you doing? it's obvious you have never laced them up at a collegiate level. Did not have a good NBA career but was as good as they get in college and an even better guy.
I was 13 watching this in my parents basement. Instead of buying these "Strenght Shoes" that forced you to walk on your calve muscles the whole time, I screwed a piece of 2X4 to the front of my tennis shoes and jumped rope for about 4 years straight. Mr. Respert was amazing this game. On a completely diff. level than ANYONE else on this day.....I stopped jumping and had to sit and watch as he lit this motha fucka UP
Best college shooter ever! Sad his NBA career was cut short by cancer. To anyone who never got a chance to watch him play, he did this almost EVERY game. My all-time favorite player.
He played against my IM basketball team when he used to work at Rice... and he absolutely destroyed us... I think he was 34 at the time, and he definitely could still play
Purdue won the Big Ten in 1995, and yes, MSU did defeat the Fab Five, 70-59 at Michigan in 1992. I remember that game well, as it was sweet revenge for Webber stepping on the Spartan S at center court after they beat us in Breslin earlier that year.
Wow, too bad he had cancer, who knows what he could have been at the next level. However, I do have a vague memory of this (his senior year) being his breakout year and only memorable year, am I right? Who won the MSU this year (1994-95)? Was it State? I'm too young to remember, but I have hazy memories of a loss to Weber State in the first round this year! Anybody remember MSU's seed this year? Just a curious, young MSU fan.
Ten years ago, my family bought his house in Milwaukee - I wish I would have been a little older and (maybe) been able to shoot for awhile with him. This is astounding. My bedroom used to be his trophy room though... filled with college and Bucks memorabilia.
I really believed when the bucks picked him up that he would bring greatness to milwaukee even when he was traded I followed him to the raptors hes still a great player in my mind.
Respert is the best pure shooter I have ever seen.....I used to watch MSU whenever they were on.....he would shoot from anywhere on the floor......truly an amazing player......thanks for posting the video!
I agree. I have always said he was one of the most incredible college players I have ever seen and when you tell people that they look at you like you are crazy. Lately Curry from Davidson has been reminding me a bit of Respert with his range and ability to make shots most kids wouldn't even take.
I don't remember a lot from Respert as this was before I was old enough to follow the sparties, but was he better than Chris Hill? I remember Hill as simply automatic, but all he could do was run around picks to shoot 3s, no athleticism.
Respert was a lot better than Hill. Respert was national player of the year in 1995 and averaged 25.6 points per game. He battled stomach cancer when he was in the NBA but never told anybody because he didnt want to sound like he was making an excuse.
slowmojoe: It sounds like you've gotten your answer by now, but yes, Respert was MUCH better than Chris Hill (I mean this one's not even a close call). Nothing against Chris Hill, I'm just saying Respert was just THAT GOOD.
No one shoots better than Respert!!! He was the best player ever to have his career ruined by cancer or anything else!!! The fact that he kept his cancer secret says more about his credibility than anything!!! He's th4e man and should of won player of the year!!!
Shawn Respert was the best three point shooter I've ever seen. I think he should have come out and told everyone sooner (instead of waiting years) that he had been diagnosed with cancer while he was in the NBA - people thought he was a flop, but the truth is, he had cancer!
@ACDC292333 He was forced to retire when he was diagnosed with cancer.

WHOOPS! I meant who won the Big Ten this year? Not who won the MSU. LOL, freudian slip. GO STATE! Cya at Ford Field in April!!
P.S. Do you have any MSU hoops vs. The Fab Five? Did we ever beat the Fab Five? I have no idea as this was before my basketball watching time. Thanx

They were a 3 seed in 1995- it was a MAJOR upset for Weber State- 14 doesn't beat 3 too often.

Never knew he had cancer and he was fun to watch. I think he was from Texas correct me if I am wrong.

Chris Allen might be as good of shooter as Shawn Respert . Watch out for Michigan State the next few season, they are the real deal.

Wow, comparing Chris Allen's shooting ability to Shawn Respert's. You are either Chris Allen's relative, Chris Allen, or a moron, which one?
