The reason suppressed guns are used in tactical situations is NOT because it makes them 'silent". Instead, it muffles the report (noise) enough, that it makes it MUCH harder for the enemy to pinpoint where the shots are being fired from.

That said, there's no reason a suppressor would ever be used on a light machine gun. Aside from the fact it would wear out extremely fast, the SITUATION a light machine gun is used in, means the enemy probably knows where you are, and you're engaging them.

suppressor and silencer are interchangeable. And most silencer are designed to lower the noise of firing a weapon. An extremely silenced submachine gun with subsonic rounds can be heard from very far away. In fact, when I head to the open range I can hear the silenced weapons being fired 150 yards away. The only real quiet weapons are the .22l (subsonic) rifles with long silencers and almost no moving parts.
