so if this weapon is based off of an ak's design/mechanics, does it still retain all of that rugged functionallity? fire with sand/mud/water getting in the weapon? if so, then this could replace the ak for most folks. also, i saw some program recently where a guy wanted to place an order for ak-47s (about 5-10 of them) but he wanted a gun smith to put internal suppressors in them. needless to say, the guy pulled it off, and it fired like a champ with the modified barrel/suppressor.

It is a NATO 5.56mm round.

R5 and R4 are based on the Galil which is based on the AK, so very similar working parts.

@mechetter sorry just to correct you but the GALIL is actually based of the finnish AK called RK 62 (rk 95 tp being the newest version) and the 62 is based of ak 47 =)

@mechetter I just want 2 say that, the R4 and galil are the same weapon exept The R4 stock is a bit longer and the front guard is diffrend. Very good weapon.

@h1017412 actualy he probly one doesnt want too have too clear it after words so click is wat u want to hear and 2 thats wat happens when a magazine is emptied when fireing ful aouto like here countings a bit tricky and that click is a sure fire way to not through out a half ful mag or a round or 2 thats only uselful on ranges in combat time is usualy of the escence so theres no time too be screwin around with popin rounds out of mags to load into others or manualy into the chamber(das hard enuf

Given an R5 or MP, from experince I'd take the HK. The MP5 is only a 9mm round but it gives you 3 round shot which will stop anybody. The R5 is good but a bit more bulky. R5 is ultra reliable, HK is a demanding bitch, but it will keep you alive.

SANDF says can't justify cost, and they are the only potential buyers. So unfortunately it's on the back burner now. Not much of a problem anyway as the R series has done it's job and still doing more.
