Another 90's tragedy. Wow. Let's see: Penny, Hill, Johnson, Kemp (post-97), Rider and then you had the tragic deaths of Petrovic and Lewis. So, so sad.
I miss the old good mid 90's :( Best time for basketball ever when passion, charisma and fighting spirit were still there.Fuck all those fancy posers today!

he over did his celebrations at times or just screaming like a dick. someone should have knocked him cold when he screamed like that. the hype surrounding him made him act like a prick.
yeah...Grandmama would be mentioned with the great power forwards if not for that back injury...he was dominate and unguardable in the low post....and the grandmama commercials were my favorites....mr. robinson's neighborhood comes close though...but nothing beats "whose up for a game? Keevin...have you met my grandmama? kevin? kevin?"
Larry Johnson could have been one of the best Power Forwards of all-time, if not for the injuries. But, he was such a monster. I miss the Hornets in Charlotte and the 1990's NBA (even though I like the NBA now). It's not the same anymore.
It should also be noted that LJ hit one of the most famous buzzer-beaters in NBA history. It was the shot that got the Knicks into the championship in 1999. It ended up being a 4-point play.
Larry Johnson was outstanding in his prime. He was one of the most popular players of the 90's without a doubt. I mean from 1992-1994, his popularity rivaled that of Jordan and Shaq. He was a monster dunker as well. He wasn't the same after the back injury, but he could still make a difference in games.

That Charlotte Hornets team was so fun to watch. LJ, Zo, Mugsy, Dell Curry. I dont even remember who coached them.

Damn shame that back injury took his explosiveness. He probably was on track to the Hall of Fame.

@phoenixmg Yeah he went from a fierce power forward who dunked on people to a jump shooter.

@2333321983 He was entertaining and had charisma. A welcome change. He was loud and full of energy and love for the game. People loved him.....
I loved how he yelled after the ball when he shot free throws :-D

LJ was outstanding. I really wonder how great he could've been if he wasn't hurt. Maybe a hall of famer...
The basketball of today doesn't have these kind of explosive, high energy players. LJ, Kemp, Rodman, Wilkins, Jordan, etc. etc.
kennerguy66 3 years ago
You mean like Vince Carter, Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Garnett. I liked the 90s as much as anyone, but it's still great.
