@HazakyProductions It's neither a subwoofer nor an intake. It's not a vent at all. There's no holes at all..it's just a design. If you take the bottom panel off and look at the other side it's completely flat.

The battery is a 6-cell lithium and lasts about 2 hrs when off the charger.

And when you click on the battery option and go to "More power options," at the bottom of the sidebar to the left where it says Power4gear Hybrid. Make sure the battery power plan is set at Power4ear high performance so that you can set it to Extreame Turbo mode.

Now with the processor being a little on the downside you can barely overclock it with these programs no harm at all will be done i promise.

1.) Tuneup Utilities-the Turbo mode.

2.)The battery-click "More power options" and start up Power4Gear Hybrid.

3.)Gamebooster.

I absolutely agree when he says the only flaw is the processor. Everything else is evolved for todays nex-gen games, unfortunately the only flaw is the intel Centrino2 duo @2.0GHz.

I have owned this laptop since 9/28/09 (bought from Best Buy). This laptop is awesome other than the glare on the screen (at certain angles) and the fact that the resolution is only 1366x768. Newegg has the higher end G51Vx-X3A for $1,249.99 which has the full HD 1920x1080 resolution and a 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo. Other than that...the laptops are identical. If you don't mind the smaller res then go with the RX05 and if you want the higher res then buy the G51Vx-X3A.

macbook wold prob suit you best. they are very good at music editing and such. (so are pcs but they are harder to use with such applcations) and the batterry will last much much longer

I'm not sure how I feel about this laptop, its supposed to be a replacement for my G50vt x1 which has a faster processor, but only a 9800GT... and I'm willing to bet that that gtx260 gets way too hot, because it looks like the same exact cooling system as my laptop and I am constantly having cooling issues when gaming... I think they should have also fixed the battery issue as well, I do however really like the backlit keyboard! Oh and btw its not a subwoffer, its an intake vent..

Actually, i own this laptop as well, and it stays very cool. Doesn`t get very hot at all. Graphics are sweet, laptop is very lightweight, and light up keyboard is very useful. Proccessor could be better that core duo, but i plan on changing that soon :)

You must be one of the lucky ones then, cause if you search google for "asus g51" the second hit that comes up is about overheating issues lol, oh and I would NOT recommend a processor swap unless you really know what your doing, it voids the warranty, and you'll end up having voltage issues depending on what processor you put in.

actually, mine stays very cool as well. Under heavy stress tops 85 degrees, which is perfectly normal for a laptop gaming gpu, which people mistake for being "overheated". Even if you click that "2nd post" about overheating they explain to him that it's normal. Also a processor swap is easy, plus there are ton of tutorials on how to do it on the web. I've swapped out for the P9700 2.8ghz. Do more research imo.

I've done plenty of research dude, its just my opinion, I know 85-90ish degrees is not necessarily overheated, supposedly nvidias can handle 210F, but Idk doesn't seem like they will have a very long life being put under that much stress all the time, I guess we'll see though, had mine for 5 months no issues yet. And I don't know if I would consider a processor swap easy, but really it depends who you are doesn't it?

You basically bought a 5-channel speaker system for a 2-Chan. Bad Idea, you mustve spent a lot of money. I have a 35-Watt 2.1 set and it works great! If you want crisp rich sound, download WINAMP and set it to FULL treble and Bass. That'll do the job.

Now the original laptop speakers suck really bad, and the so-called subwoofer under the laptop DOES NOTHING! I actually thought the subwoofer worked only when you played games or something but it FAILS

No, speaking from experience, generally they don't. I've played almost any game you can think of on my G51, and haven't had an issue. CPU usage is generally under 80%.

BTW, the OC on the G51 is fairly good. I've OCed mine to 2.3ghz with setfsb with no problems. Seems stable enough, and works fine. There really isn't a marked performance boost, but I did it anyway.

The only thing you really need CPU power for is PS2 emulation. Which requires generally a 3.0ghz CPU anyway.

Just saw this, look at the keyboard. See the "Fn" button? Press that button, then use the F3 and F4 buttons to increase or decrease the keyboard brightness.

Oh yeah might i add. This laptop is pretty much a home theater laptop, they even have a sticker that says "home theater" on the front. you can move it around just as long as theres a wall socket near by.

BTW I own the Asus G51 Best Buy model, its awesome!

However! BE CAREFULL with GPU TEMPERATURES on this model.

If playing crysis demo makes the GPU go much over 90c MAX on hwmonitor software, return G51 to BestBuy and get another one.

My GPU is usually between 83c & 86c when playing crysis demo all on high, on native resolution and no AA.

86c is pretty hot but is below the temp where the GPU wil faill which is somewhere over 100c IIRC

I recommend using a notebook cooler when playing games

Well whats wrong with the webcam?the "smart logon manager" is for the login screen and "life frame" is to take pictures/videos on your laptop.

To start the backlit keyboard, hold Fn + F4. look for the program smartlogon manager to get started on facial recognition (should have came with the laptop).

The G51 is better and the Best Buy model is a great deal This laptop comes with the most powerfull video card you can get today for the 15 inch laptop size range AFAIK The only other 15 inch laptop that has this power is the Sager NP8662/Clevo M860TU two names same thing However if you dont need a portable machine you can get a MUCH more powerfull gaming desktop for the price

Also most gamers prefer higher resolution screens If you have a bit more $ u can get the ASUS G51VX-A1 when it comes out

G71GX is a bit better 6gb ram instead of 4 the processor is a bit better

You may have to flash bios to the latest version There used to be a bug that made G71 video card real slow after it reached 82c temperature

Visit notebookreview website forums use the What should I buy form and see what other recommendations you get. lots of experienced people in that forum if you want a gaming machine and you wont take it out of your house get a Desktop. with $1000 you can get something more powerful

Yeah Im not a computer guy but does the Intel Centrino 2 matter and the G51 has 7200rpm when the G71 only has 5400 rpm I dun know if lower is better or not thats just something I noticed.

G71 has slower hard drive but faster processor. AFAIK changing the HD does not void waranty but changing processor does.

Games will load a bit slower but play a bit faster after they are loaded on the G71.

But I don't think it will be noticeable in all games.

I would get the G71GX-RX05 but make sure you or someone knows or learn how to flash the bios.

if you have more $ you can get a laptop with sli or crossfire (two video card) at xoticpc or powernotebooks sites. google it

i wouldnt get the g71gx b/c its huge dude! a 15 inch is my max. carrying anything larger will feel bulky (laptops arent ment to be bulky!). i really cant feel a difference between 4gb and 6gb of ram, are u really gonna be multi tasking that much? although i like the processor the g51 is perfect for me (laptop that can play pretty much any game with a decent screen). if you want a home theater laptop with a bunch of poWA! then get it.

It says on the plastic that came with the battery, that the battery is compatible with a number of models including the G50.

This battery should not be hard to find.

Oh I haven't bought it yet. I read up on the details though and I'm 99% sure it's no problem at all so never mind ;-). Doesn't matter where you live just check the asus site to see if your country is on the list.

Hahaha I was wondering how the sound 'sucked' with such a bad boy! But cover the fan? I read the g51 has some heating issues. Maybe removing the cover may help a bit? I really do need to check out some online reviews on to that (any recomendations?).

looll. Naaah, Just leave it there. I doubt it can be taken out anyway. Plus, heating is expected since very few people have had the guts to push a GTX 260M into a 15" chasis. (they and Sager notebooks.) Well, most people say the heat doesn't reach critical levels but I dunno. I've taken it off my list now.

Good review! This laptop is a very good bang for your buck. Comes with almost the best mobile GPU, the only down side of this model is the Duo core 2.0Ghz Gpu. Although you people down in the US have it good, the best buys here in Canada dont sell this model, if I want to get it I have to order online and its close to $2000... but comes with a Q9000 processor (2.0 quad core). Anyway Great review!
