This is how I interpreted the video. He is tortured by his insecurities (the case), but the only thing he can do is strike at them (notice his facial expression while he hits it). He is trapped in a dark room at first keeping all of his emotions (the birds) inside with him. He starts telling himself, "we can do anything," in order to try to give himself some courage. He starts letting out his emotions through music (releasing himself and the birds). He finally throws his troubles out to sea.
