This music brings me right back to my childhood. My dad would take us for these drives in the country on Sundays with this kind of relaxing music on the radio.
Up until the late 1970's there were several radio stations in the Philadelphia area that played this beautiful music 24 and 7 and one by one they either went off the air or changed their format to much less desireable music. Even though as a teenager I enjoyed my Steppenwolf records I never stopped enjoying the beautiful music.
This music is an oasis of greatness. I remember this "sensibility" where intimacy and communication were highly esteemed. A time of "listening" and not shouting. A time during which women had not been whittled up into mere sex objects. Mancini's genius is perhaps even more valuable to us now as we seek to keep the true spirit of this nation alive.....he was a master.....
I have to check out this movie- any movie with Mancini music is great. He felt the pulse of the movie, and matched it all up perfectly. There will never ever be another Mancini. He aced everything he touched.
Dont remember too much about the movie, starring Patti Duke and umm was is Sam Groom, James Farrention ? I dunno,,, part of the movie Patti's character (who has a crush on the leading man character) is thinking of getting a nose job and some plastic noses fall from a box as she bumps into the guy.. Patty also had a sofa who's frame is made from a iron clawfoot bathtub. Was a bitttersweet movie, if I remember, seen it during my collage years..I had the hots for Patti since TV:Patty Duke Show

Burt Bacharach is still living today. And so is another great romantic composer as well...John Barry......Lalo Schifrin is brilliant too as well as Quincy Jones.
still listen to Bacharach regularly. John Barry, composer of soundtrack for Midnight Cowboy, have that soundtrack. Lalo Shifrin another favorite. Especially love his theme for Mannix. Quincey Jones: remember his theme for Banning, a Robert Wagner TV movie from the late sixties. This guy should be better remembered for his compositions.
@frankstelt I have much the same musical taste. Mancini in my view was soooo deep in his melody. No one can touch him. He like many great classical composers has written the great melody's
This tune was from a rather quiet, piano driven album by Mancini. He also interpreted Hefti's Girl Talk quite well. Really good album. It came out right around the time soundtracks were shifting from scores, to hit songs. When Isaac hayes won the Oscar for Shaft back in 1970-71, I knew it was the beginning of the end for traditional composers like Mancini and Bacharach. John Williams came along with the blockbusters, but it's not the same.
Dave Grusin, James Horner and John Williams and still living today is John Barry (who also composed not only the James Bond 007 themes, but was also one of the greatest romantic composer ever, who is still composing for film!)
One example of Mr.Mancinis music that fits celebrations of events that really matter. Its like gravity his music all falls into place very natural some how to me.
You can hear how Mancini influenced Clint Eastwood's approach to composition..
This later material by hank doesn't really get me...proabably only because of the straightforward approach...I dig the Charade score, Arabesque...! Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky...My Lucky goes Latin, and Breakfast at Tiffanies...also because they all have the best jazz musicians...and the dynamics of their playing is second to none. John Williams used to be part of this period of Mancini...!!!
I have always loved Mancini's music. He had a geat blend of voices and orchestra. This kind of music is never lost, just forgotten sometimes. Not only was he a great composer, but a top Oscar nominee and winner. I really miss hiss music in movies. Great job for bringing this to us. Tks.
Mancini's music is a rare amazing gift to the world if one loves good music of his genre; check out Mancin's career, his wrtiten music and his arrangement, are vast. and varied, something for everyone. I'll always miss him awfully, he left us too soon.
i really loved the movie, me, nathalie 1969...i was born a year later, but only had first seen it when i was around 22yrs old.. what a great story, and the music, to die for....i love the sound of this era...outstanding.
this is a VERY under-rated movie. it never got the distribution it should have gotten.
patti duke was very, very good. but so were ALL the actors in it.
as regards the music, i am sure some mail order catalogue out there can order the soundtrack for you. try the net and try all those movie mags.

Epic song. Does this sort of remind you of John William's "In Dreams" from the LOTR movies, but a whole lot better?

The combination of soft violins and voices playing in unison in the beggining creates an amazing texture. That is really good composing

This song is the best of the best - sends shivers down my spine every time.
Very cool, is that this is a somewhat slower version than appears on "Six Hours Past Sunset".
Was it recorded off of vinyl? - Maybe your belt drive has loosened a bit, or it is calibrated a bit down.
