Hun, maybe it is because the plates are large, so it does end up jus straightening your hair as they are so wide. Usually the smaller the plates and the narrower the flar iron the more curl it gives you... just a thought :)

I was so annoyed last night! Because I was going out for a meal as it was my 17th on wednesday, and I have naturally curly hair but wanted to try and enhance it by making them into softer curls/waves.. I have my GHDs salon styler (the one with the big plates) and tried for about the third time, to make waves with it.. AND IT WILL NOT WORK. Its so annoying, it just completely straightens my hair.. You know how u get waves or curls..an easy way with a flat iron....is too take iron to the root of hair...take bottom portion of hair..and literally flip it up..over the barrel..easily..just make sure hair is over top of barrel..lightly even...then drag iron down..while hair remains over top of barrel..Makes beautiful curls..You don't have to twist the iron whatsoever..By simply flipping hair over top...works beautifully...Hope this make sense..lol

Yes, I do that if I want to make curls, but this wave pattern is different. It's more like crimped waves that you get with a triple barrel waver. Maybe it din't come out well on camera, but in real life the waves look completely different to the normal curls you get with a fat iron. If you try it you will see what I mean, kinda hard to explain :) xxx
