No one says the military itself is evil but some times the guys in charge are. And one downside of the military wing is that they tend to value loyalty over anything else (things like critical thinking and such.) I totally agree we need and should respect the military. Ancient Rome never went through a democracy phase. and no, I don't want a tyranny of the elite. That's what would happen with the unbridled laissez-faire world Mr. Paul would create. The founders were the equivalent of the corporations (Washington was the richest person in the colonies) and special interest groups (slave owners), so of course they weren't bought and paid for. Anyways, the Constitution is grossly outdated (though not all of it) and there needs to be a Convention ASAP.

Rome fell because it had a very weak military force of its own and it ran out of money to pay its mercenaries, and the empire was cut in half which weakened the West considerably. they didn't run out of money because of welfare for the poor and universal health care. No one says the military itself is evil but some times the guys in charge are. And one downside of the military wing is that they tend to value loyalty over anything else (things like critical thinking and such.) I totally agree we need and should respect the military. But the military needs to understand that without civilians they'd be fighting with pointy sticks instead of that awesome gear they get today. They need us as much as we need them.
