A space elevator might actually be highly relevant to the average person. You could install highly efficient solar cells and pipe the energy back through the elevator. However, we will see how reasonable that is compared to just sending the energy down in high energy waves. Also, for those interested in the field, its generally reffed to as "materials engineering" (nano-tech is a branch of this field)

That is incredibly slow... and to do something like that on a large scale would take up a lot of space as well. Modern desalination plants use reverse osmosis and membranes to clean the water faster. Nanotechnology could make this faster and more energy-efficient in the future though
That's not far from the mark. These elevators would be transports from ground to geostationary orbit, a trip of about 26,000 miles. Yes it would take quite a while at any likely speed.
But if cable strong enough for the job can be made, these things will almost certainly be built. That's where the nanotechnology comes in.

The biggest and least solvable problem w/ Mars is its lack of a strong magnetic field. Its surface is easily bombarded w/ cosmic and solar radiation. This is not a problem we can likely ever solve for the entire planet.

I think this idea would never happen, nano technology would be to expensive to clean water, think how much a liter would cost, and how many nanobots you would need, totaly unconventional, curing cancer seem pluasable to me though, space tether seems like a space monkey could make that idea up, I rather spend the money to make better things like reflective solar panel satelites that beam energy down in a wave so it powers my space craft or stores the energy on the ground so the ground powers it.

A space elevator might actually be highly relevant to the average person. You could install highly efficient solar cells and pipe the energy back through the elevator. However, we will see how reasonable that is compared to just sending the energy down in high energy waves. Also, for those interested in the field, its generally reffed to as "materials engineering" (nano-tech is a branch of this field)

It may not benefit us now, but do you think you could find a efficient way of escaping the earths atmosphere? When humanity actually starts colonizing other planets a space elevator would be excessively useful for ferrying raw materials into orbit to construct ships. Then it would benefit the average citizen :)

That is incredibly slow... and to do something like that on a large scale would take up a lot of space as well. Modern desalination plants use reverse osmosis and membranes to clean the water faster. Nanotechnology could make this faster and more energy-efficient in the future though

That's not far from the mark. These elevators would be transports from ground to geostationary orbit, a trip of about 26,000 miles. Yes it would take quite a while at any likely speed.
But if cable strong enough for the job can be made, these things will almost certainly be built. That's where the nanotechnology comes in.

it wont be your regular metal like steal or iron but a carbon material and since carbon is very abondunt then its easy now get that supply is prety hard like you said

Unfortunately, probably not.
The biggest and least solvable problem w/ Mars is its lack of a strong magnetic field. Its surface is easily bombarded w/ cosmic and solar radiation. This is not a problem we can likely ever solve for the entire planet.
