Takes me back 20 years ago when I was in elementary school; renting this Friday after school then playing that evening. Not as good as TMNT 2:The Arcade Game, but the music was catchy.
I am proud to say I beat this game... Did a lot of grinding (i.e. getting each Turtle with 99 scrolls). It's not the best of the trilogy for the NES, but I am glad I got it for under a buck when GameStop still had a used NES bin.
@threadysparrow In the original comics all 4 turtles wore red head bands. It was the 1980's cartoon which changed this. I Imagine the box art was paying respect to the original creators!

This game was impossible if you were a little kid. Sure, now that I'm in my late 20's, I can beat it but man, when you're a youngster who just loves the Turtles, this game is your nightmare, it consumes your childhood and spits you out in sadness. Did I mention all the frustrating jumps? Nevermind. You get the idea.

I am transported back to being 11 years old, in my room, TMNT and X-MEN toys strewn about, my sisters NKOTB music in the backround, I am playing this game, more excited than I have been all week, dying at the water level over and over.. not giving a crap.. my friend Mike yelling in my ear "My turn, my turn!! You said after you died"!! ha, this is awesome, is it weird that a video game song made me cry.. LOL..... Thanks to whoever posted this. You are a king.
Never beat this game, but that water level everyone talks about was so easy for my 10 year old self. Never had any issues with it. This is one of my favorite NES games.
@SpinDoctor91 The reason they are all wearing red headbands is because the original comic book was in black and white, later when they went to color we found out that they were not separated by color, they all wore red headbands. Only way you could tell who was who was because of the weapons.

Meh just the cover art, the game itself is based off the 1987 cartoon, include villains Rocksteady, Bebop, Mousers, Technodrome, and Shredder, and imo it's a silent classic, meaning it isn't the best game, but to turtle fans it's still awesome, and the music is one good reason :D, if ur not familiar with the 1987 cartoon look for some episodes on youtube, it's a classic series, i take it back, it's one of the BEST cartoons ever!
instead, buy the system and controllers for 50usd on ebay, and buy this game for 5usd... there I just spared you a humiliating loss of about 245 bucks!
I'd also like to add all of the turtles had more of a "Raphael attitude" it was more of an adult themed style, as previous people have said, they changed the colors and the turtles to something a little friendlier to the children, thus the main villains also became somewhat childish, the foot clan became robots so the turtles weren't killing real people like was originally planned...
The original TMNT comics featured turtles with red masks. it wasn't until the cartoon that they gave them the different colors to help kids differentiate them.
This and the boss music really made up that the turtles theme music wasn't in the game. I like the game itself too and it's just amusing how shitloads of people have started to diss it. Mainly because of AVGN's review, I think :P
Sure, this game had some frustrating moments, but it still doesn't belong to "shitty game" category. And on second, third or fourth (or 39th) try to beat this game you already knew what to do when those frustrating parts hit in..
truly brings back memories, the music and all was awesome!!! Was one the hardest games out there for NES, I remember clearing it but man was Shredder hard, one shot and you shrink to a baby turtle and die, I mean what the hell is that all about???
I remember dying continuously at the point just before the Technodrome where spiked walls are closing on you and I was trying to jump over the gap but I was always falling and died everytime. Shit I cried and thrown controllers so much cause of that part hahaha. <3 this game it was my very first game except for Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Had that for my 8th birthday, 20 years ago. <:)
Why do people hate this game so much? Yes, there are parts which will make you kill a baby, but I LIKED the challenge. Besides, they at least worked hard to make the game playable.

Thats how the original comic was, before the cartoon or games. It was actually a fairly violent and adult comic, a lot of elements of the cartoon were made up and not in the original. Not that i didnt love it and the game anyway.

The cover comes from the black and white comics from Mirage Studios (where the turtles originated). In those stories all four turtles had red masks.

instead, buy the system and controllers for 50usd on ebay, and buy this game for 5usd... there I just spared you a humiliating loss of about 245 bucks!

I'd also like to add all of the turtles had more of a "Raphael attitude" it was more of an adult themed style, as previous people have said, they changed the colors and the turtles to something a little friendlier to the children, thus the main villains also became somewhat childish, the foot clan became robots so the turtles weren't killing real people like was originally planned...

The original TMNT comics featured turtles with red masks. it wasn't until the cartoon that they gave them the different colors to help kids differentiate them.

This and the boss music really made up that the turtles theme music wasn't in the game. I like the game itself too and it's just amusing how shitloads of people have started to diss it. Mainly because of AVGN's review, I think :P
Sure, this game had some frustrating moments, but it still doesn't belong to "shitty game" category. And on second, third or fourth (or 39th) try to beat this game you already knew what to do when those frustrating parts hit in..

truly brings back memories, the music and all was awesome!!! Was one the hardest games out there for NES, I remember clearing it but man was Shredder hard, one shot and you shrink to a baby turtle and die, I mean what the hell is that all about???

I remember dying continuously at the point just before the Technodrome where spiked walls are closing on you and I was trying to jump over the gap but I was always falling and died everytime. Shit I cried and thrown controllers so much cause of that part hahaha. <3 this game it was my very first game except for Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Had that for my 8th birthday, 20 years ago. <:)

Why do people hate this game so much? Yes, there are parts which will make you kill a baby, but I LIKED the challenge. Besides, they at least worked hard to make the game playable.

Because in the original comic, they all wears red masks.
Only in the '87 cartoon they introduced the colored mask with a characteristic color for each turtle... to help kids telling who is who, I guess (that sure helped me a lot :-))

Thats how the original comic was, before the cartoon or games. It was actually a fairly violent and adult comic, a lot of elements of the cartoon were made up and not in the original. Not that i didnt love it and the game anyway.
