  • This is me to a T when/if I get an acceptance letter to Virginia Tech

  • I cried in that scene when he opens the acceptance letter. I still do...I know the feeling you felt, amfar!

  • When Samwise was carrying Mr. Frodo up that mountain, I was chanting, "RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!" all the way!

  • This is a great clip, but i was wondering if you could put up the part right b4 he gets into nD when hes running around the staduim

  • I'm not a ND fan at all, I'm a MICHIGAN fan till the day I die, but this is my favorite movie ever.

  • It gets emotional just to watch this at YouTube. When I heard that Sean Astin had been cast as Samwise Gamgee, I went back in my mind to this scene from RUDY and Sean's portrayal of this character who, with odds stacked against him, refuses to give up and thought, "Yes... yes! That's a fine choice!" Just as important to this scene, I feel, is the very moving orchestral score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith. Movie magic.

  • @shampoo02 - Yep, just like Rudy you won, proving you are incapable of doing something. Oh? Wait. Rudy proved he was capable. Sorry. Nevermind. You are the anti-Rudy.

  • @TG1212able Hear comes the shit talking on over youtube from some coeard in his mothers basement. Its been four months since i left that comment and now your going to talk shit to me.How do you think your even tough at all by doing it over the net like a gaint pussy. If your nuts ever really drop im in Jax Florida and we can meet anytime any place,I hate talking shit over the computer.Just let me know if you really want to handle it in person. All you cunts over youtube like to run that dick sucker

  • it was his last chance!! unreal when he gets in!!! great scene. even his own damn father didn't think he would get in.. shame on him!!!

  • I cry every time.

  • Big test for those who know emotional football scenes - Remember When Knute Rockne came home to find George Giipp in his living room after all the unexpected glories. But he is sick and soon dies. When Knute Rockne returns home and the camera flashes to the empty chair by the fireplace is one of the great emotional scenes without a word spoken in Hollywood history. (my opinion)

  • Rudy and something for joey are my two favorite football movies, both sad based on true stories, both are tear jerkers.

  • I was put on the waitlist at Notre Dame this past March, and I've been waiting to hear back ever since. In the next week or two, I'll find out whether I'm going to be accepted or not. It's hard to to get discouraged, you know, with all of the competition. But every time I think of going to Notre Dame I get this feeling inside of me and that's when I know...I know that Notre Dame is where I belong. All I can do is have faith that my dreams are realized.

  • @L0ckon Did you get in?

  • There's always 1 hater...

  • who disliked this ? do you not have a soul?

  • Hey guys... My son's going to Notre Dame

  • @tdewitt Mine too Go Irish!!

  • Best part of the movie in my opinion. Realizing a dream causes a reaction like he showed when he read the letter, the rest was just a bonus.

  • Sean Astin is awesome.

  • yeah this makes me cry. i love Notre Dame, and have always wanted to go to school there. but I never will :(

  • @mclaxin9 You know, I always wanted to get into medical school. My entire life had existed only to get into med school since I was about 17 or 18 when I made the decision to become a doctor. I worked my ass off and made countless sacrifices to make my chances of getting into med school as good as possible. And then the day I found out I had been accepted to my 1st choice school, it was the happiest I'd ever been in my life.

So it sure must suck to not get into Notre Dame.

  • @elements806 yeah im 19 and a sophomore at a local college. its not like im not in college. it just kills me that im not in south bend for school

  • Rudy fucking sucks.

  • Gawd, I love this movie so much.

  • Joe Montana is jealous that his glory days are over. What's the point of his saying that it is fake. He's just bitter nobody made a movie of him given his "success".... what a loser he is.

  • wow, i tear up everytime

  • I'm not a fag, but this scene made me shed a tear.

  • @MrDreadedbwoy Dude grow up. You don't have to be a fag to cry. You can be "a dude."

  • @MrDreadedbwoy nobody said u were a fag im 22 years old and this movie and this scene makes me tear up

  • Joe Montana says this is fake too. What a tool.

  • It just goes to show that nothing is impossible, impossible is just another small word thrown around by people who decided to give up and use it to breakdown people with dreams.

  • 1:27

  • This was my favorite scene in the whole movie when he finds that he gets accepted. This beats any of the football scenes.

  • Ruddiger!!! Thanks!!!

  • I love this movie...bigman, I agree!!! when he opens that letter, that's so fantastic!!!

  • 1:23 I cry every time he opens that letter and reads his acceptance, I've watched this movie dozens of times and I still can't get past that part of the movie without crying a little

  • @bigman6499 you're not a pussy.....same here..excellent movie!!!

  • @VIKING33NY haha glad to know I'm not the only one! cheers buddy!

  • @bigman6499 Friends of mine say the same thing!! Great Movie!! and yeah, they broke down also!! lol

  • Rudy said "fuck you" to everyone and did what he wanted to do, despite his family shit, despite his weight and height, despite all the shit, he set his mind to something and succeeded. The craziest thing is, we can do it too, you and I......

  • "I did it." Nothing else needs to be said.

  • Maybe the best part of this entire movie was rudy reading that letter of acceptance! His last chance to get in to Notre Dame... Great scene! And then taking the letter to his dad, that was great too!!!!!

  • Joe Montana FTW

  • Wow! I saw this movie when I was attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. There were guys on that 1992 team that had no athletic ability whatsoever. However, they had heart ,and that obviously made the difference. I can really identify with Rudy. Graduating from college in the face of enormous pressure to fail was a huge accomplishment for me personally. I'll never forget it! Thank You God!

  • I remember this scene when I watched this movie as a kid. I felt the same way as Rudy when I received my acceptance letter from Notre Dame - over a decade after watching that scene.

  • man...this scene gets my literally every time i watch it...i love Notre Dame..

  • Everyone telss me I look just like him. Dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing.

  • Wow! Mediocrity gets thumbs up in comments! Elements806 thank you!

  • "this...university-it's not for everybody."

you know what I say? that's false. don't believe anything anyone has to say that is negative to your dreams. don't ever let the negative outweigh the positive. even if you don't go all the way, you're ahead from where you set out. work hard enough, anything you want to happen, will happen. just don't take stock in the negative.

  • @flyersfan10

I don't think that Father Cavanaugh was being negative. He was just being honest and actually did give Rudy a chance to prove himself.

  • beautiful

  • Great movie --- makes you believe in yourself when the odds are stacked against you

  • 2:00 - 2:10 He can't stop sneezing.

  • GREAT scene - but you really should have included the next few seconds - the father announces it over the loudspeaker to the whole factory - he then looks at the letter again and places it carefully back into the envelope as if it the letter were priceless (just like the scene). ;-)

  • This is the scene and the end made me cry man tears. Where Rudy said he didn't get good grades the movie never mentioned it, but in real life Rudy had Dyslexia. Back then you couldn't get help for something like that and you were on your own. I mean Rudy really did have to work twice as hard as everyone else to succeed even in his studies.

  • Who's got the kleenex ?

  • This is one of the most inspiring movies ever.

  • MY FAVORITE SCENE of all time...I went through this when applying to Ph.D programs...

I wish the full clips with all of his rejections were included, beginning with the priest's following statement:

"...in 35 years of religious studies, I have only two, cold hard incontrovertible facts...There is a God, and I'm not him....." EPIC movie.

  • i want to meet this man... for i too am following a dream... im a music major who plays clarinet... and someday im going to march in a drum and bugle corps called The Cavaliers... now i have to learn how to play baritone... i will give my 100% to march... or even more... i will do what it takes... just like rudy...

  • I hate Notre Dame but i love this movie.... FIGHT ON!

  • 1:49

"It starts with a dream. Never quit"

    -Rudy Ruettiger #45

Thats what he told me when I shook his hand.

  • Dreams come true if you want them bad enough!

  • I was recently accepted as a transfer student to a major university after my third attempt and can now totally relate to what Rudy was feeling. I was on my doorstep and just grabbed the mail. Knowing that a big thick packet was good and that a letter was bad, I was a little confused by a small packet. I opened it and found the letter of acceptance. I somehow ended up chasing the rest of the mail around my lawn because it was relatively windy, lol. Best yardwork ever :)

  • @amfar Thats awesome. Congratulations. Just out of curiosity which school was it?

  • @livingisaight Texas A&M :)

  • @amfar Congrats! And welcome to the Aggie family! (class of 2009 here)

  • @amfar I am also class of '09, as well as my fiance. Let me tell you I understand the difficulty of getting through A&M admissions. My fiance was also a transfer and she wanted to go to A&M more than anything. Although she only had to try once, it was the only shot she had, and she barely made it. I'll tell you this, soak in every moment at Texas A&M because it goes by fast, and all of the sudden your at your last game as part of the 12th Man.

  • i was inspired by this movie to go for my dreams and i did. my teachers and the school board always told me that your never going to be anything. They told me i was retarded and that i would never graduate with a high school diploma. well little did they know i fought the odds and over came many obsticals just to graduate from high school and here it is i'll be graduating from slidell high on may 13th!!!

  • ahh!--cut at the best part

loudspeaker: "MY SONS GOIN TO NOTRE DAME!MY SONS GOIN TO NOTRE DAME!"

  • I love the beginning part when he talks to the priest.... he has so much determination in his voice

  • such an inspiring clip..puts tears in my eyes

  • I thank God too because I was told that I was mentally retarded but am now a Junior at a div. 1A college. :-)

  • Wow sometimes I take it for granted that I could have gotten into almost any state school I wanted with scholarships.

  • bobby3321 i don't understand why you would think that; he clearly says the words, "approved" and "Thank God." Just sayin' though.

  • my comment was suppose to be a joke

  • It's lump in your throat time, people.

  • I really can understand this scene a little better now. For a year, I took this test for my teaching certification and failed. Last night, I got my results back from the test in December and I passed. It feels so good to finally pass and show everyone who doubted me I did it!

  • EVERYONE (even you JMC1987) that dreams a dream, works at his dream and NEVER lets anyone stand in his way will receive that dream- everytime- but you must NEVER QUIT!!!!

  • the first time I saw this movie, when rudy opened the letter and cried and I thought he got rejected again....then when he started running towards the water, I figured he was going to kill himself.....

  • @bobby3321 Hahahaah. That's pretty funny.

  • jmc1987jcgc is a negative prick.

  • I always believed in him, ever since he saved Middle Earth.

  • me 2

  • hahahhahahahahah that just made my day

  • lol quote of the decade right there

  • with the same heart Rudy had?

  • my favorite scene!! :3 Actually I got more then 1 but that was #2!! ♥

  • I LOVE this scene. It gives inspiration and hope

    = D

  • This scene touches me everytime. I feel for him.

  • Always prove to the people who told you couldn't do something, WRONG. Success is the biggest revenge!!!

    -Billy Anne Crews

    Billy Anne Crews
