Ad now, they are on Total Treble, Their own fucking label! quit hating! Nirvana was on Sub Pop then DGC, i don't see you people calling them sellouts, So calm the fuck down!
Be Happy for them? Please. The only thing they're getting from Sire they weren't getting from Fat is more music videos and stadium shows, two things they made massive claims to be against. Then they started writing shitty albums which are accessible enough to be played in American Eagle. So all the new fans get huffy because Against Me!'s not cool in the underground anymore.
They're a mainstream band now, the one thing they are for the underground is a shining example of what itis to sell out.
I remember those days..when you get in on the best show of your fucking life for 10 bucks...Against Me! is still alright, but it just isn't the same seeing these guys live now :(
youngpunk92, I highly doubt you know much about what you are talking about, you must be a 12 year old trying to be cool with your little punk outfit. If you were an actual punk, your name would not have punk within it.
im 17 and i utterly lack creativity(hence the name), i dont wear punk fashion. my hair is not spiked. im not a poser. actually ya know what fuck it, i dont have a fucking thing to prove to you or anyone else
you posted this in 2009. its pretty safe to assume he was born 92. idk man math is pretty easy, no matter what sarcasm or exaggeration was put here this post is fucking stupid
@janeoisbomb good math dumb ass. plus against me and other good bands actually have important things to say, so the analysis is fucking important. ignorant prick.
even though they have been fairly heavy in the mainstream media, they still write songs with social significance. sure, they did go from hardcore leftist lyrics to pro voting lyrics, but at least they didn't just start writing about how much they hate their dads, and how bad their lives suck.
by the way, these guys are STILL the best live act that i've personally seen. thats saying a lot...
i've never quite understood this one. greenday were never a political band, they were never particularly DIY. yes, their old music is better, but even it isn't extreme in anyway, it doesn't particularly seem that their change in sound was intended to appeal to a more mainstream audience, where in against me it's a clear transition from DIY anarchist music and politics to mainstream music and politics.
well thought out arguement, rare on utube, 2 me old green day was about society and personal problems but they did it in a funish way, in a certain way basket case is funny and much of their old music is to. American idiot is just depressing and is too much bullshit like boulevard of broken dreams quit bitching and do something to change it to me any punk band that doesent end up on the shelves of target or isnt played through the radio has not changed their style enough to be called mainstream
crap ran out of space. im personally not an anarchist, i also dont know much about them but isnt one idea to change the system through voting. this song was trying to explain their views as anarchists stop was trying to convince people to vote no matter what their views this includes anarchists im my mind that song can be made up to be that they are trying to further their cause. And mainstream, even their new music isnt quite like anything else played today
no. an anarchist would NOT want to change the system through voting. to change the system through voting is to give your power to representatives, who then enact change from the top down. an anarchist wants to enact change from the bottom up, so we use bottom up methods, mainly community activism, growing gardens, feeding people, to try and live the change we seek to create. and eventually, when enough people come together, we'll be able to rely on these commmunity institutions without rulers.
ok i see ur point actually i despise politicians today, they are corrupt and only represent their corprate backers. a rep is supposed to be of the people for the people in the least none are not of the people and most are not for the people. what i will say is that a corrupt republic is just the illusion of freedom. what u r talking about is close to direct democracy a political view i can support, it puts decisions back into the hands of the community and the community takes care of itself rite
i remember when i found out about them on a website run by some kids in the gainsville scene (don't know if anyone remembers the name) and i was wishing, hoping and praying that i'd see them live and experience this someday but now...
S!!!!! in 1964 13 year old Elisa Johnson was raped and murdered in North Carolina, her body was found with multiple stab wounds, and now that you've read this, every night she will come to your house and hang from your closet with glowing red eyes, the only way to stop this is to post this to 10 other videos. SORRY I DIDNT WANT HER IN MY ROOM .sorry just spam this.don't hate. sorry but i really dont want to see red eyes in the dark i would SCREAM im sorry
yep wish that was true...but everyone starts sucking once they get on a major label so these guys went down hill to man...its just somethin you cant stop...nice to here there stuff from there old records though
your an ignorant. if your so concerned abuot mainstream and "labels" then find your position on the pole in life and delete your facebook account. and maybe take a marketing or *major4* intro course - and shutup
I don't care if bands are on a major label or not, if they make great music, they make great music. period. Against Me! used to make great music, and now they make shit. And I couldn't be more disappointed.
They are on and off. I saw them live at the Warped Tour and they were ok and have seen them at other places and loved them. BTW we have launched a great new fanspace for against me at myspace dot com slash againstmefanatics Check it out as we have some great content on there including their official Kyte Channel with tons of exclusive content!
they're still singing about all the shit they were a few years ago, its just so much more hidden and cryptic. its people like you that bring down punk. you should be fucking happy for them. they're still making good music, its not like they've submitted to "mainstream mentality". they still advocate for doing shit you /feel you want to do/ over doing it for superficial gains. if you can't sift through the lyrics and find the true meaning, that's a disgrace. rebellion is in the mind
their last show that i went to at the grove in anaheim depressed the hell out of me. it wasnt like seeing them as they were. the crowd didnt have it together and wasnt singing along. didnt feel the vibe like i do in this video, or at any of the past shows id been to. the guy next to me in the crowd actually asked me who the main band playing was. maybe someday theyll make it up to me at another show, but for now i will remain disapointed at one of my favorite all time bands.
umm amazing? maybe.. i really hope they dont start totally sucking
i saw them live in new orleans.. but like.. i wish it wasnt at the HOB and somewhere a little more personal like that room.. where everyone is together singing their hearts out to meaningful lyrics :)
I saw their show in montreal about a year ago, and it was even better! The film is great, but it's nothing like being right there live, singing aloud with the band and everyone around.....amazing feeling, you should all see their show if you have a chance.
that is there new stuff. axl rose was there first real LP, before that they have "crime as forginen by..." and then just the against me! demo, which is my favorite, but crime is good as shit. they are alot more angry in their earlier shit. they used to be one of the cool anarcho folk punk bands sorta, but now its just annoying.
I kind of disagree. That album seemed to lean in the direction of where they are now, but there are two or three songs on that CD that I still think stand out a lot, and are true to their earlie material.
these guys came and played in my town on the 50 state tour, and they have the affect where everyone has their fist in the air and is singalong, even if they hardly know the words. its cool. their new shit sucks though.
We rock, 'cause it's us against them. We've got our own reasons to sing. And it's so much less confusing when lines are drawn like that. When people are either consumers or revolutionaries...
Ad now, they are on Total Treble, Their own fucking label! quit hating! Nirvana was on Sub Pop then DGC, i don't see you people calling them sellouts, So calm the fuck down!

the band was built on anarchy. they are no longer anarchists. they were hired by a major label.
