One of my favourite historian/presenters she is just knowledgeable & passionate about her subject. As a history graduate myself I really connect with her. Well done Bettany & congratulations on your book.
@georgel19841 dammit man, be a gentleman, she is brilliant, engaging, attractive, a wonderful presenter of history and a provocotive commentator.....the rest can be assumed...but we do not discuss what should be left unsaid....you give the rest of us georges a bad rep.....
A book that I must read. Not only because its about Socrates. But because it was written in an age when people would rather forget the importance of Philosophical inquiry and reason and live instead like materially obsessed automatons. Thank you for taking 10 yrs of your life to research this man. A very honorable task. Your work will be quoted for 100's of years.
Neither in his life nor in his Dialogue appearances does Socrates demand overthrow of the establishment or express disrespect to the gods. Wiki: "The lengthy theories given in most of the dialogues are those of Plato, and some scholars think Plato so adapted the Socratic style as to make the literary character and the philosopher himself impossible to distinguish." Peasants, still loving the accusers.
INDEED YOU HAVE.. WISH I HAD THAT BOOK MIGHT BE THE SECOND BOOK ID BE INTERESTED IN LOL

Bettany is truly the most attractive historian and story teller that I have come across. I am absolutely fascinated by her.
