Surely members of the hunter gatherer societies were some of the most self-sufficient humans to have ever existed. overall, this talk seems quite speculative and vague.
The last part of this talk felt so pompous and unnecessary. "by the time you've found yourself you've always already begun"-it may be true, but it just sounds like he's saying it to impress people. "you are a place an moment of all that has ever existed and ever will"-this just comes across as an attempt at profundity rather than an attempt to be insightful.
This lecture is unnecessarily verbose - the hallmark of intractible ,"Ivory tower", academic discourse; usually created by the pretense of one group to laud their projected intellectual superiority over another group. This is the diammetric opposite of what good communication is all about.-another youtuber

Corey, I agree that this was brilliant. My jaw dropped between 9:30 and 12:10. I'm so very glad that you gave your answer to the Greatest Question--whether or not we "survive" death--even if I think that your conclusion may be premature. The implications of how each of us answers that question are utterly massive. While I cannot agree with you, I commend you greatly for your courageous honesty, which is far too rare in academia. Now, I need to prepare a decisive refutation! :-)
Death acceptance should be understood in a way that makes a balance between life and death.many people lead such a busy chasing life that they hasten their life course and therefore making it short.
Throughout life,we should live as peaceful warriors in this journey of life.
Great lecture.....I believe that most ignorance and passsive-consciousness towards our existence stems from NOT following the "natural law" as a guide.
essentially and initially we need to who we are in this universe, and how we think and what we think in order to build a certain state of tranquility of mind and self-satisfaction..
You've inspired me to make a similar video but with me in an auditorium, alone, talking to an imaginary audience. Drunk and alone...babbling some what like I am in this youtube comment. People would watch that. I think?
"What I'm most interested in, this millenium, is bringing together science and some form of religion"
..Erm.
That's terrible statement, science and religion are not compatible if truth is something you value.
One deals with facts the other deals with belief's and most of the belief's within religion make empirical claims that cannot be backed up with empirical evidence unlike scientific facts which are only ever confirmed with empirical evidence.
@BeardedBill86 Agreed. I'd be very surprised if a man of his intelligence and modes of thought believed religion, in its current forms and practices, could be fully compatible with science.
Great ideas. My only objection is the rhetoric delivery. Too many "I think", I" I believe" utterances. Synonymous phrases with the same meaning would envigor this presentation greatly.
I think definitely one of the best things you could advocate for are free access to philosophy articles that are currently pay-for-pdf upload from the current professional journals. That this information is not already out there is pretty silly, in any case.
hey good job man nice speech I wold love to be in your shoes one day giving a scholarly and intellectual speech to intelligent capable people...cheers to you man, later.
very nice! Some of what you said in the beginning reminded me of a book which I think has some really great insights, something to mine, called An Ontology of Trash: The Disposable and Its Problematic Nature by Greg Kennedy.
But really, Dreyfus and SD Kelly's newest book "All Things Shining" is a MUST READ Corey. Cheers, great video.
Comfort allows people to avoid themselves and their responsibility to themselves and all life in existence, that is not to say that dis-comfort is the solution real education that educates responsibility to existent life and themselves rather than fodder for an elite who profit whilst sitting on top of the garbage heap.
How do you know how the 'hunter gatherer society's' thought or acted, you making assumptions very easily I have noticed in your videos .
you can't look at history through our current books, you have to face reality that our books are nothing more then someone's perceptions. we didn't have books in caveman days, yet we have books about those times as if someone was taking notes? you have to figure out the first lie, once you see that you see why everything is screwed up and what's needed to fix it and I don't see anyone "get it" yet. to accomplish the first lie you have to manipulate humanity to know we lack so we can chase
@Judy101101 keep on auditing, if its light you got, then all you got to do is to open the cover instead of building momentums using unsustainable solutions. Hold on
@Melki it's always about self reflection, how I affect my word and how I affect the world around me - always keeping the eye on the global experience - we aren't helpful to anyone until we are the help we need for self - holding on - although it's painful to watch so many die in this global life lesson we appear to be in
This was an interesting talk, though there were probably too many topics being discussed. I felt the part about Bible thumpers was out of place. Not sure what the comment was about our calendars. I don't know what he was trying to say when he asked how much we can forgive in relation to God. I like the idea of biologically friendly theology though. I think the excessive hate for Christianity distracts from the talk and his research into our evolution and our cultural diagnosis.
Stimulating up till the last two minutes until out of nowhere you decided to throw a grenade into the room. I think language perpetuates this illusion profoundly, 'my arms, my legs, my mind etc.' the subject-object split creating this idea of something/somebody 'possessing' a body. You don't come into the world, you go out of it', simultaneously illuminating and disturbing...Think I'll put the kettle on now.
Fantastic!

It's like a "Best Of" compilation, or an inclusive sampler, of his YouTube work.
Interesting as it is, although as usual, I only somewhat half agree.

This should be set to animation or at least a slide show immediately.
I'd do it, but I have no such talents.
