  • do u have any opening night stuff?

  • just curious on how miss gullth got her cape on so quickly do u know?

  • @bookboybrs90 The bike had a black bag attached to the side. In it was her cape, which was already attached to the back of her outfit at the neck. She also carried her witch hat in her upstage hand and threw it on during the lightning strike. Also, that is a stunt double due to the fact that Ms. Worley had to get into green make up. (if you have any other questions let me know, I did the MSG version and toured with that show for 2 years!

  • Can you believe Andrew Loyd Webber changed this music entirely? Biggest mistake ever.

  • wow how did you do this?

  • its good but i dont really like the acting

  • Is There A way if you could E- Mail Me the Wizard of Oz (Msg) WHOLE SHOW (The one you uploaded here) plzz i have subscribed to you and love your videos!! QUESTION: How do you get videos from vhs's on to youtube?? =]

  • Rosanne plays a great witch in this play

  • hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • FABULOUS!!!!!

  • Oh, WOW! This is amazing....to be able to do this live, and keep the spirit, the mythology, of the 1939 Classic Film!

Bravo to all involved! I am impressed by your talent, and respect for the Original version, while still bringing something new to the world!

    ^^X^^

  • is this part of broadway across america?

  • @Abigaige No, this production/tour was produced by Radio City Entertainment.

  • oh, ok. I thought this scene was amazing! I have tickets to see it in March and it's part of broadway across america and i thought it was the same thing. Thanks for posting this and for clearing up my confusion. :)

  • Just so you know, the current tour is nowhere near as high-quality.

  • I believe you because this is amazing!

  • I saw this as a kid and I saw Mickey Rooney on stage which was totally cool as ever and the house falling onto the stage that was cool too! But it was in tempe at the gammage

  • i saw both Roseanne and eartha in the role in MSG and both were amazing. i only wish i was older when i saw it so i would have more and better memory of the show

  • omg! i have to admit this is a very impressive production....wow!!

  • Pretty neat !

  • was this a one night thibg

  • No, this was a limited engagement that ran at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in 1997. The show was so successful that it was brought back the following year with Mickey Rooney as the Wizard and Eartha Kitt as the Wicked Witch; the rest of the cast remained virtually the same. After the run in 1998, the show went on tour until the end of 1999.

  • I remember seeing this when I was six or seven at MSG. It was one of the most magical things I had ever seen.

  • do you have this whole video?

  • Yes, if you take a look in my videos, you will see the entire show is up.

  • thats amazing!!!

  • grrrr! Mother Nature had the liberty to overreact!

  • That was very well done* I went to see the Wizard Of Oz at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center back in 2008. It was SPECTACULAR. I didn't think this twister would've been as good as last year's considering the time period, but they did an EXCELLENT JOB with this one! (that's soundz like ROSEANNE'S CACKLE!) lol, I can't stress the number of times I've replayed the witches transformation scene*

  • that was very cool evven during the house double!

  • How did you do the thing where Miss Gultch turned into the witch??? That was so cool!!!! PLEASE REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE!!!

  • this is profesional from madison square garden in nyc

  • I can tell! its a really good performance!

  • they have a double. The real witch goes backstage and gets ready, while another goes on stage as miss gultch :)

  • Okay thanks! That's cool! In the play my friend was in the same person played Miss Gultch and the Wicked Witch!

  • oh cool :) I'm in this show right now, and were using doubles... it looks pretty good. But using the same person is cool, a little harder, but cool.

  • That's cool! The theater they performed in all there was above their heads were the lights and wires and stuff so we couldn't do some of the special effects :(

That's cool that you're in the WOO! It was really fun for all of us! Who are you playing? Good luck :)

  • aww well I bet it was good anyway. Ya its a super fun show to do! I play one of the trees that throws apples and stuff and a ozian haha

  • It went really well! Closing night was in January :*( But they're doing another play now! One of my friends played Dorothy! Haha the trees were funny in the play except one person forgot a part of his costume almost every show! Sooo is your play doing Jitterbug?

  • You know what, I don't think it was a double. It's not a very elaborate effect, you can see that she has her cloak wrapped around her arms. Her hat was probably hidden in the basket, the lights go out and she pulls the hat out and lets her cape billow.

  • I really think that you are right.

  • i agree with you how can she change that fast and have the green face and all

  • @SonofaStitch kudos! you are correct! except it was a double. That green makeup isn't so easy to put on!

  • @computerjunkee 1st it's a stunt double. (green makeup takes a while to put on. 2nd. the cape is attached at the neck and held in her arm. She throws it out during the lightning strike. And 3rd, she puts on the witches hat at the same time. Not easy to achieve but when it works it's magic! Any other questions? I did this version and toured with it for 2 years!

  • Incredible effects, guys

  • Wow. The Gulch to Witch transformation was pretty impressive.

  • I saw this when I was three and I bought the movie version the very next day!

  • I went to NYC to see this in 1997, when Eartha Kitt was the Wicked Witch :-)

When the "tornado" hit the house, I remember being distracted by the model of the house seen in 5:04...it kept spinning long after the scene ended, and they put it on the corner of the stage easily seen by the audience. Oh the A.D.D. of a 6 year old.

I loved it though, it was a great performance.

  • Ms. Gulch turns into the witch.

  • wow that was fantastic!

  • whos that in the air at 3:22???

  • As inaccurate to the story as it is, it is Dorothy flying around...

  • CRUD! I can't beleve I didn't see the show!!!!

I wasn't a Wizard of Oz or Wicked fan yet. Either that or I wasn't even born. when was this made? And if I was born before this, I guess I snooze I lose.

THANK GOODNESS WE HAVE YOU TUBE!!!!!

    THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!

  • I love when you see the actual house flying above the audience, that must have been so cool to sit underneath that.

  • @UrsulaRulez

It was. I saw the show on tour when I was a kid. It was amazing! :)

  • OMG the part where she flys in the air and the lighting with the lights!! That was the best theatrical effect Ive evern seen!

  • Then you've never seen wicked.....lol

  • Roseanne as the Wicked Witch of the West....now, that's what I call scary!

  • perfectly amazing. especially that large ball of tornado near the end. amazing!

  • Wow! That was extravagent!

  • WOW NOW THAT WAS BRILIANT

i've just done the lighting for wizard of oz, they didnt have any dmx lights or any good effects really, i made the most of the lights i had using the Leap frog desk :]

for the twister i had like a spiral of lights, i know this is the twister music from the film but our twister music was different :| and our starting bit didnt have the bit where she went to see the Fortune teller it was really quick our start! maybe a school version or something ?

  • If it did not have Professor Marvel, it was probably the MUNY version, which uses the songs from the film but different underscoring and an original script.

  • Do you have video of the Overture?

  • No, everything I have is posted. The original hardcopy videotape I have picks up at Over the Rainbow. Anyway, it's nothing interesting. It's a bunch of clouds being projected over a scrim.

  • Oh! The best way to hear the Overture is buying the CD.

  • omg that was sooooo cool well done.we did wizard of oz no where near as good as that tornado well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Tornado was done well. Even with the spastic funnel cloud. Please post more if you can.

  • It's all here.

  • whos the wizard? it doesnt seem like mickey rooney!

  • The Wizard isn't Mickey Rooney because he was in the replacement cast. This is Gerry Vichi the original MSG cast Wizard.

  • oh! thank you! i wasnt aware! i keep getting confused i always think the original is the cd one! loL!

  • what is with everyone walking around?????

  • WONDERFUL I LOVED IT

  • Absolutely FANTASTIC, this is the most amazing musical ever.
