  • ok so you got like THE HOOK UP on that flanged ss tubing or do u have to buy all that stuff at retail?,cause that is by far beyond the likes of which ive seen in quality not to mention CLEEEEAAAAANN!!!i admire your work much like my own when i have the budget to do it overkill rite if i possibley can,by the way ,that water filtration unit i got from u guys back in oct for conference , does it filter flouride and or do u have flouride filters?

  • simply genious i want that knowledge!!! in german pls :-)

  • Inspirational, Thank-you!

  • Hi!

on your Truck, the attachment, look like a professionel thing. did you bought the attachment? or is it a homemade? if ts bought, where did you get this? im interestet in converting an old car into wood gasifiing power.

sry for my bad english xD

  • Yes, Congratulations on being on Doomsday Preppers! I wouldn't have gone on that show if they'd have asked, but more power to you! I'm running my gen on Veggie Oil as well as both my trucks, but in a TEOTWAWKI situation, I would be SOL and you would not. That's definitely got me looking at learning this technology as well. Thanks for the videos, I'm subscribed and will continue to watch you! God Bless you and your two families! SGT Charlie

  • Hey I saw you guys on doomsday preppers, if you can make a video on how to make a gasifier thatd be awesome!

  • Hell yea!! Yet it been a year did you finish the building yet?..lols.I live what you are doing there. Wonder what it the diff between the piston heat engine, and a good steam turbine?

  • nice gasser, who built it for you?

  • Where can we go to get plans for something like this?

  • @engineer775 Would it be possible to store the gas from the wood gasifier? So that you don't need a wood gasifier in your truck/car.

  • @KevinDR1987 yes it is possible to store it in a pressure container but it requires a compressor that can handle flammable gas. Compressors used to refill propane tanks would work. a typical air compressor would self destruct because the flammable gas would wash the cylinder wall lubrication down. There is also a possibility of sparks and unintended ignition with an unrated compressor.

  • @BornRandy62 That's good to know. I'm looking into alge, electricity, used cooking oil turned into biofuel, hydrogen, and now woodgas as alternative means of powering my vehicles. Still not sure which way is the best to go

  • @KevinDR1987 algae is still in the concept stage. no one at all is producing ethanol from algae in quantities large enough to test results. it is one of those things that sounds great on paper but hasnt gone further that lab test tubes and small scale experiments. Hydrogen requires a large amount of electricty to produce from a water source. Ethanol can be made out of pretty much anything that contains starch or sugars. Solar and wind electrical generation is passive and achievable with a (cont

  • @BornRandy62 I know hydrogen will use a lot of electricity but I plan on producing way more electricity with wind and solar than I will ever be able to use and sell most of it back to the power grid. I just think hydrogen will be a better solution than current battery technology in vehicles although that will probably change in the not to distant future. But even then batteries do wear out and when SHTF they will be harder to get and I doubt I would be able to produce them myself

  • @KevinDR1987 intial large cost equipment investment. bio diesel from vegetable or animal oils requires lye and ethanol or methanol. Both of those are possible to make yourself with minimal investments. And the plus to biodiesel is that the waste byproduct is glycerin with lye content. check out journey to forever (no spaces) dot org for loads of free info about biofuels.

  • @BornRandy62 The initial startup cost will be high but since I plan on selling power back it will pay for itself in the long run. I have been to the journey to forever website before but thanks for the reminder because I had forgotten about it.

  • beautiful. just beautiful..

  • Im just curious.. For longevity and erosion purposes have you considered some way to cover your generators so that they arent exposed to the elements?

  • @THEPILLADDICT In the video he said that he's going to put a building around it.

  • Just for safety sake, If you haven't done so already , you may want to attach a #4 ground wire from the genset and that lonely ground rod you have hammered into the mud.

Great system ! 20 KW is a lot of power for a few air handlers and some pumps. If i were you I would use it just for Back up power and just take advantage of exercising it twice a month. it's hard to utilize 5 kw never mind 20. You might have need to acquire a grain grinding machine so you can use that "free" power.

  • You're the same guy from the Nat Geo show "Doomsday Preppers."

  • Beautiful!! I need a wood burning truck that can power my power!

    Congrats!!

    God Bless You and Yours!

and God Love Ya for Sharing! it gives the rest of us hope!

  • Man, i'm glad I came across you and the other two guys. Surprised I hadn't sooner. Great videos.

  • COOL

  • That's a nice set up

  • Great job, how can you do this without a big old crap-eating grin is beyond me. I'd be giggling like a little girl.

  • Could you possibly put up a 'guide' with a list of tips and such for creating your own wood gas generator?

  • Fantastic job. How often do you need to refill the gasifier with wood? Can it run all night?

  • Nice dude!

  • Great video . I've been thinking about a wood Gasifier myself just need a little more research and time to build it . Old technology in the modern world , good work .

  • you can run your whole house on 120 volt with a 15 amp extention cord ?

  • the only reason its so damn loud, is because you forgot the muffler, nice setup...love to see it when you have a shed over it

  • my 4 acre off the grid retirement project just got yet another inspirational boost! keep on with the innovations and keep looking for ways to harness all of the energy from your labors! you mentioned an underground segment for your exhaust....have you considered a cistern filled with stone for thermal mass and used oil (veggie or motor) as the transfer medium? you can store heat in the cistern for days at relatively high temps. (400-500* range) and then harvest it through exchange as needed..

  • Did I see you on tv a little while ago? Can't remember the name of the show but it had to do with national crisis situations and being prepared. maybe I'm mistaken, the truck and generator looked familiar though. cool set up, I'm interested in doing something similar

  • Great video! It's kind of funny that all of the new technology is actually old technology re-invented! It is good that people, such as yourself, are entertaining the tried and proven ways of yesteryear and making it work! AWESOME! Just a question: Does the gasified smoke contain anything that would gum up the internal workings or shorten the life of the genset / truck motor?

  • Great video thanks

  • man this sweet :) to be able to run ya house off of wood ? how the heck ya do it ?

  • 775 can you give a little info on the gasification process. The processor in the truck apppears to be fabricated commerically - any additional info?

  • what plans did you work off of for your gasifier if I may ask?

  • that is awesome. My CR-V solar generator can run a small camp or maybe even a small cabin off gas/electric if backfeeding but the whole farm? you got me beat.

  • Nice work! How are you going to dampen the noise? Do you have plans to recuperate the heat from the cooling circuit?

  • This is great! I have a thought about it. Would it better to use this energy to charge batteries and then have a parallel 12V or any DC. LED lights, laptops, most home electronics are already setup for dc in. It just seems like a huge amount of energy and noise. You could setup a system where charging happened on a schedule.

  • @wiserleo It's better to run 120v ac , there is less voltage drop then using 12v dc systems . We use solar panels to charge our battery banks and power inverter to convert to 120v ac . Keep the power inverter as close to batteries as possible and use 4 gauge or better wiring to batteries . There maybe a little more start up cost but you'll be happier with the performance.

  • You sir, are my hero. Good luck to you.

  • Wife does not like happy @ 0:54

  • Kudos!! I too am making very slow progress @ getting away from gasoline & the grid (miles to go). Thanks for the encouragement.

  • Nice truck, Nice setup :)

  • very cool now you got it made . is the generator diesel or gas?? good vid again thanks

  • Man You Rock!

  • Great vid!!! Are you the same group that was on the show preppers???

  • what kinda truck do you have I have a 65 ford F-100

  • Nice job E'775: Not many people can understand the importance of energy self sufficiency. I'm making progress too and show it on the WISCOKIDDD channel. You would think with all this ZioNazi government talk about energy that they would throw in a little cash to help us, not so we have to fight them all the way. PL&H Ken

  • these people got on tv

  • ready for the breakdown are we

  • are you going to build another wood gas genrator just for the power system ,or just use the one on the truck universaly

  • First... sorry for my English (French guy leaving in Canada here)... i m wondering if you draw any plan of your Gasifier? any websit where we can follow your design?

Thx anyway... this is something i want to try

  • Thats a really nice old onan gen set!

  • Very impressive sir, Thanks for the great videos. I'm a fan.

  • Holy cow, even if it runs 50% horsepower on the wood gas, that's enough to handle basic lighting needs for a block of dozens of houses, and 3-4 full homes with refrigeration, central air, the works! My Lister with spark conversion on woodgas will only put about 1400-1500 watts

  • Have you considered (or have you) hooking this up to a battery bank that would store some of the electricity?

  • @ engineer775 Cool, did not realize that , good video good job..

  • I would not want to be the guy working on the power lines when you reconnect to the grid , I do not mean to sound rude or disrespectful but I would shut my gen set off so not to send power out to the lines ???

  • @northernboy68 You are not being rude and I want you to know that I cannot feedback on lines because the transfer switch will not allow me to. It is a make or break switch I got from the power company that is designed for this situation. I have done it all to code and feel confident that no one will get hurt.

  • @engineer775 I have always wanted to do transfer switch. Can you tell me where you got it? This would allow me to use a non sine wave inverter from a battery bank.. Not sure if you could do this too but when the generator is over producing you could be charging batteries that then run and inverter that feeds back through the same switch after the generator is turned off? But they mention auto switches here and a inverter needs to be a grid tie type but if I am manually off grid who cares right?

  • @northernboy68 dick head

  • engineers ftw!

  • awesome!

  • Had another idea what about a marine exhaust manifold on each engine?Run a loop from boiler, and when its running the farm its also heating it . Thats what i have been thinking about for my set up because my low rpm diesel generator came from a ship in the Great Lakes and has a marine manifold on it .I guess for that matter you could run your boiler through the block too. Let me know what you think.I would have posted this private, but haven't figured that out yet.

  • Great job! Congrats.

  • Great job...Will you be at the gun show this weekend???God bless...

  • any idea if it would support any shop equipment? presses? Welders?

  • Wonderful!

  • Do the outdoor elements effect any of that equipment sitting out side as far as performance?

  • Very good!! Yes like @goathollow I have GAS ENVY!! ( NICE JOB)

  • Inline 6s are very smooth and easy to work on, but do you think it's possible to use a more modern I6 engine that has better fuel economy for a generator? Or were you deliberate in choosing an older motor since it would be easier to get/fabricate parts for a carburettor-based engine in WROL (vs. fuel injected)?

  • Hey Scott, Great job man. I am still amazed by you. Keep it coming brother.

  • maybe you can use the gasifyer to run a wood pelitizer to pellitize some yard wast for gasifyer fuel,

  • I think you are way ahead of me. I trying something on a much lower scale. Same idea but way smaller. Im basically just trying to run my house 120v items. Mainly the fidge, freezer, small window unit ac, and lights for emergency use.

  • is the excess gas from the gassifier just pouring out of that ball valve or is that air intake? could you explain that please?

  • Lovin the Onan genset it's a nice clean unit, Personally I would have mounted those panels inside the building instead of exposing them to the elements. Great video Scott but you have to work on reducing the camera shake ;)

  • geez, my biggest electric bill in my life was 700KWH for a month. i think my condo association would frown on a generator on a top floor end unit condo. and you could invest $20 in a muffler LOL

  • awesome is not the word man. that is great in a lot of ways. tons of info and it helps to prove some of the suppression of technology that relies us on other garbage. God bless you and your family

  • Nice dude! I can't wait until the day comes when I have my Welding Red Seal and can work with men like you at work or in my off time to build amazing machines like this!

One day I'd love to have a farm like yours and own a metal fabrication shop making great stuff out of steel!

  • Great Job brother! I am impressed. Keep up the great videos. Anthony.

  • CONGRATULATIONS AND Thanks for sharing your work.

  • Just awesome brother Scott. Very nice, thanks for sharing with us.

  • congrats!! great work keep it up!

  • That's pretty cool. :) I don't understand engineering much so I have to ask if "running on wood" is the same as many cars in non-war-torn europe used during world war 2? There was a "boiler/burner" thingy attached to cars and if you ran out of "gas", you could just pop in some branches and twigs and the car would work again. It was called "gengas" ("generator gas") in Sweden at the time. Is this the same thing?

  • @MrSatanica exactly the same system

  • @lookingforthemeaning Awsome. Thanks.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • lol awesome.. plenty of wood to go around.. it's more or less an infinite fuelsource

  • very nice brother :)

  • You know engineer775 I watched my new touch screen phone ring the other day and I couldnt even figure out how to answer it at the time. I missed the call right there in front of me and then I watch you do this kinda stuff.......it doesnt make me feel like the sharpest tool in the shed.......lol thanks so much for the great info.

  • @eastcoastpatriot hammers arent the sharpest tools in the shed but they do there job well ;-)

  • @lookingforthemeaning thats awesome. thanks its the first time i have heard that. i will have to use that line myself

  • WOW BUDDY!!!

  • convert wood in to gas am i right

  • now to get the heat and use that too :-)

muffler into an oildrum heat exchanger. and a second system on the cooling lines to heat the house or workshops :-) maximum energy efficency :-)

  • Bravo my friend! Well done! W as jumping around when you got the truck going. And I was just as excited to see the homestead operate on the gasofied gen. Excellent work! ~Wolf

  • I'm just curious as to know if that gas generator would run on bamboo. It would be so sweet if it could in a financial and logistics view.

  • @johnhuynh69 if you can make charcoal out of it it will burn in a gasefier :-)

  • @lookingforthemeaning interesting, cheers mate.

  • You sir have my respect. Congrats and thank you for sharing.

  • A major milestone Engineer! Congratulations.

  • oh hell yeah, nice work

  • You should not run an engine without an exhaust...low back pressure will cause several problems...burnt exhaust valve or seat...and carburetor adjustment abnormalities...always needing to tweek the carby ect. If you Private message me I can send you a ton of information on your genset, such as repair manuals parts lists ect. just trying to help ya bro

  • awesome!!! working on back up power myself, not woodgas but maybe someday!!! very nice project!!!

  • That is awsome man!

  • Not a bad idea. Okay, I will.

  • The feeling must be liberating not having to rely on the grid for power!

  • Amazing. Congrats!!

  • excellent set up there. Thanks for sharing with us...

  • very cool

  • You need to get a much quieter Muffler, could hear you for miles. Very cool Gen set tho!

  • @astrialkil I agree. But there was no muffler on it! Straight Pipe! So obviously this is worse case from the noise level!

  • You need to get a much quieter Muffler, bad guys could hear you for miles. Very cool set up tho!

  • Good job brother. You have worked hard and I know and can see the Lord has blessed you.

  • very nice video

  • Very very awesome. Wanted to build one for some time now, but probably won't get a chance unless it it'll burn bamboo. Don't ask me why please.

  • @InTheSticks0001 Bamboo wold be really cool as its sustainable and grows fast, this is probably the problem your having. Here is a short web page that shows what happened to him when he built his FEMA Wood Gas Producer from Plans. It includes the link to the original FEMA plans. If you try it out let the rest of us know how bamboo works.

  • @astrialkil It would take a modification to make bamboo remotely viable for other than a stationary unit, i.e. extra large hopper, or some improvement in processing the bamboo to make it viable. In other words, it would be a challenge. There's nothing quite like a good hardwood for this. Come to think of it, there could be enough teak out there....Hmmmm

  • @InTheSticks0001 Personally I think as long as you ground up the bamboo in a chipper and used a solar drying room(kiln), the bamboo should work fine. But i don't live with the stuff. Even with a normal hopper you could at least find out how much more bamboo it would take compared to hard wood, or even pine. It wold be great for the tropics if they could power their houses off solar and bamboo.

  • Emergency strips on a heat pump? Super milestone Bro. I have gas envy!!!

  • @GoatHollow The condensor unit is outside and the heat strips are in the air-handler inside- I call it a toaster since that is what it looks like a huge toaster oven. Anyway they pull about 10Kw all at once! I am disconnecting them asap! Thanks for watching!

  • GREAT video, may I ask what gauge wire you are running from the genny to the switch?

  • @electeknowizard # 2 copper sir.

  • Where can I read up on Wood gasification process? I always wondered how it works. And remember it may not be able to run your emergency heat, but wood warms twice, Once when you chop it and second when you burn it!!! :D

  • @TheRifleman336 Here is a short web page that shows what happened when he built his FEMA Wood Gas Producer from Plans. It includes the link to the original FEMA plans. The Plans tells a lot about the whole wood gas process.

  • @TheRifleman336 go to victorygasworks

  • @engineer775

Congratulations on the milestone, just a quick question, is the gasifier the ''woodie'' by victorygasworks? and is the engine running the generator capable of running on diesel too?

  • @TheRifleman336 try google books search they have some exerpts from boks on the subject you can buy.

the most advanced research was done by the swedish. look for "generator gas " "wood gas" "gen gas" "syn gas" "downdraft gasefiers and try "h t t p slash wood - gas dot com""

  • @TheRifleman336 ....i heat with wood also....my wood heats me thrice...1st when i cut it..2nd when i stack it...3rd when i burn it...hahaha

  • @TheRifleman336 Nice! I love that saying "Wood warms twice, once when you chop it and second when you burn it!"

  • @TheRifleman336 gengas.nu/byggbes/index.shtml pretty handy site :)

  • Very cool... I would have been dancing aroud to.. Congrats great job !!

  • How exciting!!! Awesome job!!!

  • My hat is off to you, sir! CONGRATULATIONS !

  • Totally awesome.

  • Hi, I see why your an engineer. Will you hook up your outdoor wood boiler to heat your generator building for better cold starts,or will the gasifirer be in there most of the time?

  • @infowick Excellent questions!! And you just made another project for me! I use the outdoor boiler to preheat my veggie fuel for the diesel generator but I haven't thought about running a heating zone out to that building. I haven't had a problem starting the wood gas generator on cold days but a lil heat wouldn't hurt. Thanks!

  • Also, when I have my castle built, how much will you charge to install the same setup within my walls? LOL

  • Emergency strips?

  • @PatriotEke emergency heat strips in my airhandler/heat pump ( when they come on they pull ~ 10kw !!!! ) I could run them if it was a gradual increase but when they come on the gasifier cannot produce enough gas quick enough to meet that demand.

  • @DeleteMeOnline All I know is that it is to our local codes so in case I decide to net meter this baby I should pass their inspection. My power company will allow 100Kw a day ( 5 hr run for me) to be dumped on the grid. I just want to get a nickel back each month form the power company but also be able to have electricity any time I need it.

  • Truly Awesome, Congrats man

  • Very nice, I'd like to know about your gasifier unit. Did you design it for capacity or just by components you had around? Did you custom fab those nice looking stainless components? Use to be a salvage place between Easley and Liberty on 123 that had a lot of useful looking stainless stuff from the road, been a year since I've been by that way though.

  • @landlockedviking I bought a prototype unit from victorygasworks a year ago. They blessed me with an awesome price and I jumped on it. IT is extremely well built and is all hand tig'd . I have welded a lot of stainless and know there was a lot of hrs put into this gasifier. My system is more than 20 times more cost effective than a 20Kw solar system but I do have to prepare the wood. But I can run it any time of the day rain or shine.

  • @engineer775 Thanks, I'm gonna have to learn some more about these units. They seem very practicle, and portability is an option which is a big plus compared to solar.

  • Sweet! Best system I've seen yet! I met an engineer and told him my grandpa was a conductor, he said "I'm not that kind of engineer" I said neither was my grandpa he just got hit by lightning!

  • @danman911 lol!

  • That is AWSOME...I am about as far as one can be from being and Engineer but evern I know that is cool.

How much wood did it take? Maybe you had that in another vid.

  • @Iam1uglyguy Since this is the first time loading the generator I do not know the fuel consumption rate. I will be testing and posting a (pounds of wood per Kw/hr ) number after I do a lot of runs. I really can't give you an accurate answer but the rule of thumb is that it takes 3 lbs to produce 1 Kw.

  • Excellent!

  • that;s great.

  • i love watching this stuff. brilliant. you are brilliant. questions. yes we need a copy of this plan. you need to patent this puppy. GREATEST VID EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • Wicked cool.

  • NICE!!

  • Its Loud!

    I could find you easy.

    But very cool.

  • @jimhuntermj21 Yep its loud. No muffler, no building. I had to prove it would all work and now onto silencing. I didn't want to bury it so now its time for a buried exhaust and a baffled , louvered flow of air. I will be pointing the fan towards 200 acres of dense woods. The muffler for this thing is so big and heavy that I need to mount/ hang it from the building and then I will duct that exhaust under ground. I needed the 20 kw to run the machine shop and welders plus the house.
