@heatherwilleatyou dont do it!!! get something else, dont even get a VW. These cars are the absolute worst. My sister and brother in law got mine for my college graduation and it has been problem after problem and most people i talk to that have this car all have had issues. ive changed, the thermostat, water pump, timing belt, had 4 battery's, brakes, 3 headlights (same one) 4 tail lights (same one), catalytic converter, O2 sensors, window motor, glove compartment broke and the list goes on
My VW Bug is doing the same thing! For the second time! I had to buy a new battery about five months ago because it did this, and now today it's doing it again!
Basically there are two computers that control everything in a car, the ECU (for the engine) and one for all the electric stuff that has nothing to do with the engine. When this computer takes a dump all the electronics in the car go off the deep end.. If these two computers are in any way reliant on each other (newer cars) it could make it not start.
Dead battery, for some reason VWs do this when their battery goes out. I had the exact same thing happen to me in my beetle. The Bosch ignition system requires pretty high voltage to work, so if it gets low this is what happens.
I had the same problem with my car. there was corrison on the upper battery post and that little compartment above the battery has to be cleaned to it had corrison on it to. and that whould fix the problem also that safe on your radio happens when u disconnect your battery and i have to enter the radio code , usally found in your service manual. good luckj
I have the same problem on my Audi A3 when i turn the key the doors close the windows dont open i even cant close the car because of that i found out the problem was not the battery but the alternator that generates power was broken!!!
Heres the problem-you probably have had it fixed but im willing to bet this is it:
Bad piston slappings.
No, just kidding. Actually alot of times a car will act like that. People instantly think oh-my battery is dead or my starter is bad. It might not be actually! Alot of times you just might have alot of corrosion on your battery terminals, causing it not to start. Clean those terminals off and you should be good to go.
Than hold the gas pedal a litle bit, and get contact, ONLY CONTACT. Just turn the key 3 times on/off, but don't start the car. When you did it, Try to start the car, but only just 1 second. Then turn the key of, and try again and again, otherwise you need to check the sparkplug.
i know you fixed the problem already, but i just wanna say this. my sister had this same exact problem on her 1999 Jetta VR6. whenever it happened, she would always wait at least 10 seconds. and then try again, and it would work.
I was about to say... I had that same problem on my '01. The battery-top fuse block shorted out, and killed my battery. I had to replace both to the tune of $500.
its either a starter or a bad battery i think a bad battery cuz u can hear it trying but if the battery is fine its ur starter mine got stuck a while ago what u do is get under the car and hit the starter with a hammer not really hard just tap it and try to start it and it will work if thats the problem cuz sumtimes a starter will get stuck by dirt or dust no joke look it up lol
Same thing on my 1999 beetle. Im getting new battery today.. Great video I hear its a pain in the a@$ to get battery out though

You need to pump the gas 15/20 times.
