I always loved watching his specials when I was a kid. I specifically remember this because of the song and the sensual choreography/atmosphere that went with it. It just left a lasting impression on me for some reason and I believe that was the first time I had ever heard Mama.
cool hey did you know that johna spina who in some of his illusions she chro gra[phs his illusion ven yets cool huh an david cool seth kotkin saw her cool talent on a cruise ship boat an years later she is now a cool lady illusionist magician too how cool is that an i saw this coocoon illusion live with my magician friuends at chrysler hall in norfolk virginia

People can't even guess how this is done so don't worry about spoilers. The best they can say is "camera tricks" ... that would work with Criss Angel's magic but not Copperfield's ....
@deadmanavir even though I consider this version of the trick as simply awesome and possibly one of the best illusionist performances ever, it does have one flaw, which makes one part of the trick a bit too obvious. DC himself probably knew that, because there's another version of this illusion, slightly altered, a bit less stunning, but more believable. Sometimes those people (when they notice what i'm talking about) think they see right through the trick. They don't, it's just one part of it
@TheLostDragon23 A lot of people know how the trick is done, and they know what I meant here. I won't say anything more here, don't want to ruin it for the rest. I'm willing to answer questions in PMs if you have any
@deadmanavir this is an amazingly elaborate bryce screen with a black art routine platform table. (not a mirror) precise timing and a few assistants. (no camera trick) it is remarkable but nothing compared to copperfields illusion called "One"
Why would they need assistants? As long as there's something in place to cover the area behind the platform, all you need is Copperfield and an "individual assistant" who can dive behind it very quickly.
I figured out exactly how it was done the first time I saw it, when it aired on I believe the Tonight Show. And if I'm not right then my method is better because it couldn't be simpler.
The live audience probably wouldn't notice it as easily because they can't get a close look at the woman before and after the metamorphosis. Copperfield also used this particular "individual" more than once for an effect with similar requirements, which underlined my conclusion.
@EGarrett01 Maybe you know the concept behind it ... which is quite easy to figure out ... and there are many secrets within the effect which you probably cannot explain ...
You probably know that he used *** of the same, if you know what i mean ... but other than that, what can u explain ???
What else needs to be explained? The curtain/cocoon opens in the back. After that it's all fast movement, good choreography and sweet music. It's obviously very easy to conceal the important area around the platform. I'm not saying it was a bad illusion. It looks great. I'm just saying that you shouldn't proclaim no one can guess how it was done. Once you figure out the one thing involving the woman the rest is quite simple.
@EGarrett01 it's often that way ;) It's no rocket science, these illusions are sometimes very simple (and sometimes not). Simpler than one would think. If I manage to figure an illusion out it doesn't cease to amaze me, especially in the case of DC, who is true master of choreography. It's an art, and figuring it out doesn't make it any worse.
He did such an awesome job of this very old trick . . . only version that comes close is the Pendragons'. But I mean, the music and everything in his is just like a piece of art. I miss this guy being in the limelight, very badly sometimes, in the world of magic.
I know how most of his stuff is done but damn his presentations are just so breathtaking. He can take the most simplest of illusions like Origami or the De Kolta Chair and turn it into something sensual and just beautiful to watch. I really do miss seeing his kind of magic on TV. He is getting a bit old but I hope he still has it in him for at least one more special!
I love this version of the soundtrack too, much better than original music video. Took out the slow parts in the song when it kills its own momentum that it just took minutes to build up. Also, I'd much rather look at this girl than the guys in Genesis, personally :D
at first i was like pft yh right ok so theres a hatch and he went through it and she fell down it woho but then she was in the cocoon thing i was like :OOOOOO unless she has a identical twin with a body just as hot i dont know how they did that :| lol
this is just too perfect..... cool act..... plus this song...... watching this was the first time i ever heard this song....loved it ever since..... :D This song just kicks ass ....
Chris Angel pretty much ruined studio magic by taking it to the street and doing things like hovering in a candescent lighting that could vaporize a person 40 stories over the Vegas Strip. But watching Copperfield as a kid, he will always be number one to me. His showmanship and music selection was second to none.
i'm not amused by DC making vehicles and buildings disappear anymore, but this is one hell of a performance. the "trick" part is not such a big deal, it's actually guessable. the real magic of the piece is the absolutely incredible coreography, the music selection and the tiny details. it makes me shiver every time i watch it.
Magic is all about the performance. Any fool can research how a trick is done and blab his mouth about it, but it takes a lot of talent to master not only the mechanics of the trick/illusion, but also the performance aspect, and most important -- to entertain.
Wow David Copperfield is not only an amazing magician, he is also hell of a performer. And he is hot too! I went to his show in Las Vegas recently and the man is still attractive and charming at 53. Although he doesn't do stuff like this anymore..
Just removed a comment describing how the illusion is done... pls don't put that here, don't spoil it for ppl who want to stay amazed for a little while :) thanks
There's another version up, but he waits until the cocoon comes back down to the stage to reveal that she's inside, so I think this one is more impressive. :)
I am a professional Magician and if anyone would like to know how this was done PM me and I'll expllain what he did.

I love this trick, it's a bit more complex than most simple "vanishing" type deals by making 2 people move instead of 1.
I do know how it's done, email me if you want to know, I won't post it here
