Gawd what kind of grant did this lady get for this garbage....what a joke. I saw the Dead 6 times in the early nineties...awesome shows, super fun! But this whole study of the Dead "subculture" what a waste of time...
How is it a waste? We are a dynamic subculture of millions of people who span continents and many amazing businesses, non profits, families, and many other fantastic things have come out of the Grateful Dead parking lot and community. I expect and hope to see more studies on it. UC Santa Cruz has an entire GD archive and is constantly compiling memorabilia and information so I expect that some people are doing thesis on our subculture.
Great stuff here. What a trip, too, to look back on the time when I "turned on"...
Yep my generation (I'm H.S. Class of 1988) came onto the scene and we damn near fucked it up. We didn't really know about personal accountability and sharing. I'm just glad I had some old school heads take me into the fold and teach me the ropes.
@MrRKglass Yeah, sorry. I was transferred from an old VHS tape, and then this version was converted from a DVD I made. I had this up under a different account a few years ago and it was extremely popular. I'm looking into paying for the high-res version (the distributor may not appreciate my uploading it but the filmmaker had positive things to say).
sorry not a sub culture my anthropology prof slammed me on that point and was very smart. The only sub culture was dead family which was .09 percent of the crowd. peace
@nordzville It was beyond "beyond"... a real gift to humanity and the Earth - a vibration of love and acceptance, rather than fear and separatism... I don't know what the modern tribal scene is like... hopefully there's still some love and magic there.
They look like the old hipsters

@Mi37591 Jealous?
Experiencing a micro-tribe within the macro is quite sublime.
