@TrendIndia1 If you look at what Propellerhead have just added to Record 1.5 (and Reason 5), if you had both programs, you wouldn't really need VST's, as you can make and combine so many things with this software (not to mention the amount of routing and control you have over the sounds too), VST's are not as essential as you think and you could always use ReWire if you can't live without them and bring them in that way.
Wondering if when recording if there is an ability to NOT follow the click tracks. Much like say when one is recording onto tape - no perfect MIDI click or beeps getting in the way. So let's say I want to record a band, or a vocal/guitar solo thing or just anything where the music expands and contracts and not have to worry about visual representations of measures and tempo, etc. Time based linear recording is what I'm getting at. That would rock, seriously.
Bought the Reason Record Duo about a month ago and it is, by far the best software I've ever used for recording my music. Very user friendly. I've used Sonar, and Cubase among other programs. Basically, unlike some that I've used, it does'nt get in the way of the creative process. The SSL 9000K reproduction is just incredible. I've been doing this since 1989 with a Korg DSS-1 and a cassette four track so I don't take any of todays technology for granted.
@silverspar1 Same here. I started out with a cassette deck, a Korg Delta, a TR-808 and a SCi Pro-One in 1987, so I feel the same. Got to see Record 1.5 and Reason 5 at a masterclass show in Leeds with James Bernard and it blew me away. So many great new features and some they haven't even mentioned yet, like the new "alt-drag clip" feature in Record...
Obviously pro tools, but I mean this software still looks pretty amazing. I use Reason 24/7 so this should be cool. Not a professional studio product though.
I have Reason 4 and kept wishing that Propellarhead would come up with the same deal to be able to record audio.....and they did. I have owned so many different types of recording software and I have to say that this is the best yet and user friendly. If you know anything about recording and live sound this software should be no problem for the average musician to operate and produce great recordings.
Record beta tester/pro producer/musician 20 years with every DAW there is. Record aspires to scratch that itch, and actually manages to reach. Godsend to the musician, great sounding childs play to the engineer (a clinical flexible DAW it is not) but as a musician, who needs all that until you master anyway. Still, almost all of what a creative producer requires is in the box. No VST still? OK, I forgive you.. With ableton/protools, Brian Eno and propheads dream big. "Studio instrument" indeed.
Seems Propellerhead's virtual hardware interface...drives home the sounds just like hardware marketing model. But, unless you're using a dual desktop monitor setup...it's a pain to scroll around and switch windows on a laptop. Logic now uses a single screen and tabs like Ableton Live...both of them can be used comfortably on the go. But, I tried the demo...and even though this guy was using a Macbook Pro...I bet he would have rather been using a Gamer Setup..to see everything at once.
I was part of the Record private beat (before it went public) and I have to say I was hooked very early on. Record is a great music recording device and one that will only get better over time. I've bought it and use it along with Reason 4 (been a Reason user since 2002) and people really should stop going on about the whole VST/AU thing. If you have Record and Reason and can't make great music without the need for VST's, then quit already but don't blame Propellerhead!
I got the beta Record and am already hooked... I am a Reason user and I love the interface... I got up and running in no time! The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to get Record to recognize my USB Snowball microphone... It's hilarious, they release the beta and get us HOOKED and now we are all anxiously waiting for the release... Love it!
Did you ever find a solution to the Blue Snowball recognition issue in Record? I haven't figured it out and haven't been able to record using that as my microphone. Please help if you can.
Adding VST's to this program will only take away the mystique that this application has. If people are complaining about such "VST travesties", they can always run their Reason tracks thru another sequencer. (i e ProTools, Cubase, Logic, etc.) It's not the end of the world. Propellerhead, you're on the right track. Keep doin' your thing!
straight up...you can use reason as a vst on your DAW why do you still insist on having vsts in reason ??
the ppl who hate this and constantly touting vst is often the ppl who cant play an instrument to save their life..cuz god forbid you have to play your instrument into record...lol
I am glad they are not allowing vst plugins, that;s where the problems begin and crashes, you can rewire with logic, live etc,, and use your plugins that way.
OFF THE HOOK! I am buying a $3000 new Mac pro just so I can run this! The Funny thing is that they still don't know what they got on their hands... Lol They are marketing this as a ''garage band'' of some sort but you got m*********s with 20k pro tools setups here in LA asking ''when is this new record s**t coming out?I wanna buy this!''
This is gonna be huuge! Mark my words!
If I could only use my universal audio plug-ins and integrate my hardware in there i don't need anything else! About Time
HAHAHAHA! You made a funny! I totally agree with you man. Catz who don't have skillz behind the boards or with a mouse....should be released to the universe.
What an incredibly cool & appropriate thing to say to all the purists who want to discount the greatness of the cool software that record is. When one can't use components of reason 4 (such as EQ, r7000 reverb, distortion, etc) to create your own good tone/ sound, then you start pointing fingers at Props for not allowing VST suppot. I guess people just love being nerds wasting their time with complex softwares and crashing CPUs.

i wont touch reason or record anymore as long as i cant use my vsts. started with reason, really liked it, but when i discovered the power of some vsts like omnisphere, or just the great sound of sylenth1 i'm never going to make a track without them. and i just hate rewiring.

That thing that pisses me off so much about Propellerhead software is "not supporting VST's" when you think about it. they are trying to make a digital world for making music on your own personal computer right? shouldn't that apply to sounds as well? I've seen VST's like EWQL Ministry of Rock or Prominy SC Electric Guitar, MOTU, the list goes on of high quality sound VSTs. And yet Propellerheads haven't realized this yet?
I am relaxed...just a lil disappointed in how they are constructing this product. No VSTs....makes it hard as hell for the millions of producers that do the same thing like me...there are more Digital Producers then Generic Producers that actually use a Guitar in their music. VST's are taking over the game and they need to reralize that. check out the VSt's I've posted earlier. and be amaze
If you are a "genuine" producer then you would know that Record, just like Reason, is to be used as a slave rewire app along with Cubase or some other package which can already use VSTs
Exactly, Im sick and tired of software like Ableton that assumes we all want to tinker with tinyl little buttons constantly. Ableton are now doing stuff with cycling 74 the most nerdy nonsense you could imagine. That software is becoming mega complex and far to train spottery for its own good.
For me both kinds appeal, but it must be frustrating to musicians.
Props do cater to musicians and producers allways have! Ableton well there awesome too, but serve a different audience for things like sound design, but its a great DAW now not to mention its live adaptation.
This looks cool for the market it's aimed at, for someone like me I need midi out and Vst support that and I use Reason 4 with Live and that combo works great.
complete ? yer right... no vst support.. what's the line about "oh people invent stuff just because".. if there wasn't a market for it, people wouldn't buy it. I can see the market they are going for, but it's not enough.. or for me , just another thing to rewire.. they need to get their older products like recycle up to date as well!!!
From what I've seen, there is still no vst plugin support. What kind of a DAW doesn't have vst support? I'd buy it if I could use EZ and Addictive Drums in it.
No vst support though ultimately makes this just a basic audio recorder for Reason. The question is then, why hype this and sell it as some "other", stand alone product? It's essentially an audio recording plugin for Reason.
They really should have just integrated the features of Record into Reason 5.
Not really... we're trying to reach lots of users who would have little use for Reason devices, but want to record and mix their songs - so they can use Record standalone without all the other stuff in the way - gb
They will never add VST support or plugin support in general. For ten years people've complained Reason doesn't have it. They're never going to add it.
Yeah just like they will never add audio to Reason... Guess what, no matter how they package it, they have added audio to Reason. So simply stated - never say never...
No editing tools like pitch, stretch, reverse etc. makes this rather useless. You can always rewire it into i.e. Cubase, but why not just record into Cubase in the first place. The mixer and concept seems great, but editing is a must!
FYI, the time-stretching capabilities for digital audio are unprecedented- when you get your hands on this program, you will find it to be much more useful than you think!
Rather useless? They are not trying to beat existing, established DAWs for amounts of features - rather they are extending the existing advantages of Reason which are creating and recording musical ideas quickly and easily. If you need VST plugins or advanced audio editing, great - ReWire, or bounce the tracks after getting the idea down in Record. You have absolutely missed the point of the app.
most people who wanted some of the functions , bought a DAW long ago.. I'm sure more are in the boat.. why should I buy this? I'm not giving up VST's in hurry as much as others are using UAD cards etc. speaking of rewire.. 64 bit would be nice.. zzzz

I don't get the People complaining about No Vst in Propellerhead Products ...
Reason is about CPU Efficiency and Stability, bringing Vst in will destroy the whole Concept..
But guess what, there are 100000 Daws out there where you can easily use Vst.
So leave the Propellerhead Concept alone...
