  • I grew up around this music, it's thanks to my Dad I know this awesome song!

  • @giatrostv: exactly. @icedt245: your dad is cool for doing that for you and you're cool for listening!

  • Excellently referenced on One Life to Live today.

  • yo you know whats crazy? i always thought a Moreno sang this

  • BRAndon boyd's cover is better imo

  • Haha "put out the big light". Got to love Peter Kay

  • Great tune. Heard it for the first time on That '70s Show

  • One year ago my dad's best friend lost his daughter, Alison (spelled the same way). Rest in peace

  • @guitarr44

im sure she deserved it. She is probably decayed and smells like shit six feet under.

  • @EICHIBOY2 Trolololol

  • I was named after this song... my mom used to sing to me "Alison you are your mommy's faviorite girl, Alison cutest girl in the world" I was a strange suprise to me when I was 9 and I heard "Alison I know this world is killing you" but I still love this song lol I just don't want to be like this Alison xD

  • My name is Alison, so I thought I'd listen to it cause that's all my dad sings when he sees me...

  • ALE-ison :/

  • the way he says Alison is so annoying, but the rest of the song is pretty

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of cholin719 at twitter)

  • @Youtubing09j11...I agree w/u also young lady or young man...luv it...

  • Elvis Costello...he deserves capitals...my bad...

  • I think elvis costello is one of the best...to hear his music is to hear the truth...at least according to him...and I usually can relate...Truly...and kudos to U giatrostv

  • intelligent angst.

  • It was great to see him on TV last year in Vancouver Canada at a Canucks hockey game cheering on the team. His Canadian wife Dianna krall is having a good Canadian influence on him!

  • One of the best songs he did. He and Randy Newman were nearly all I listened to in high school...back in 2007 especially. Both brilliant songwriters.

  • haha this is not a love song.

  • Great to hear this kinda music, relax with a good drink, a good woman, and just drift away to the good days of music.

  • This song reminds me of That '70s show!

  • @ giatrostv, great point, I totally agree! Elvis is iconic all on his own, what a great artist!

@ icedt245, your Dad is waaaaayyyyyy cool, you're lucky!

  • Pretty Little Liars. . .

  • Fine match to "Spandau Ballet: True" .-)

  • I was named after this song.

  • Yuck. Can't believe this was used in such a bad program. I bet half the views are people who know fuck all about Elvis and only like it cos they heard it on the telly.

  • If only people knew what a creepy song this was.

  • @CasualThinker, I wouldn't call this song creepy. I think it's a legitimate human emotion that most have felt. Considering our respective worlds are based around our own perceptions, he perceives that this girl is dying a slow death because of the choice she made in lovers. He thinks that he could make her feel better.

  • This is such a Brilliant slow dance tune.

  • like if you came here just to see what Wilden was singing in Hanna's house ;)

  • Great song!My great niece was named after this song. She's now a border agent in Laredo Texas.

  • elvis costello needs no references to crappy tv shows

  • @giatrostv I understand that Elvis Costello is an icon, and I have loved his records since my dad played them, but if those 'crappy tv shows' bring kids who listen to rubbish to good music, surely it's a good thing?

  • @giatrostv That may be true, whether the show was crappy or not, but just remember that that "crappy show" brought some people here. Now thoes people, however they got here, are enjoying the musical stylngs of Elvis Costello that probably would have never heard of him or this song. It doesn't matter how people find great music as far as I'm concerned, as long as they find it.

  • @slickdog78 Nicely put! Good for you....

  • youtube needs a repeat button

  • mike <3 hannah!

  • Alision dilaurentis.

  • That 70's show anyone? Eventhough I've heard the song before, hearing it on the show reminded me of how long it was from the last time I've heard it lol.

  • My name is Alison, and this is the very first time i ever even heard of this song!!! I love it!!!

  • @Aliraeraes I'm confused. If you're name is Alison, does that mean that you absolutely have to know about any song written about a girl named Alison?

  • @raehyetu Yes it does + i was just saying that i have never heard about this song and my name is Alison!!! DUUHHHH!!!!!

  • I found this song a while back on that 70s show when hyde was going to go to new york with that chick, I still come back and listen to it every now and then lol

  • Please don't compare this song to Pretty Little Liars, PLEASE.

  • this song is life defining for me..my heart goes out to the poster whose friend is dying.

  • @LanceHelmut mine too - it's very sad, I know because my mom died from lung cancer in January

  • Brilliant Song

  • Lol .... this song's chorus is so awkward when your name is alison ...

  • @alisonmason123 But it's such a beautiful song...

  • @Kainlarsen i agree it definatly is :)

  • My Dad brought me hear. I heard him playing it on the guitar a lot so i decided to listen to it. Thx Dad!

  • they say he's new wave but this is a straight up R & B tune done his way...............and i love it

  • a sherpa brought me here

  • Man.....this song is killing me right now

  • My ex-wife is named Alison... and she cheated on me... so this song really speaks to me

  • @BarFlySupreme Thats suxs man. At least she is your ex now

  • thats 70's brought me here

  • @2deepstreetfights haha that 70s show brought me here too a couple weeks ago jst keep comin bck to listen to it

  • I find it funny how people get all warm and weepy over this song considering what its about. It is far from a love song rofl

  • THANKSSSSS

  • This is the first Elvis Costello song I've heard (shocking I know), I've always heard that Costello and his music was just weird, I didn't believe it so I checked it out for myself. What a pretty song! Love the guitar in this song.

  • One tree hill brought me here!

  • This song came out about the time my husband and I married and I loved the name so much that 6 years later I named our daughter after it. She hates it of course, LOL But I still like it.

  • I'm a music connaiseur, and quite possibly the coolest person ever to walk this planet.

Trust me, this is a gem.

  • ~*Killer*~ ;)

  • Allicin is the principle biological active compound of garlic and scientific evidence suggest that allicin is responsible for the many health benefits associated with garlic. :-)

  • @johchadow what the f$#@ does that have to do with the song???? NOTHING!!!! Who cares.

  • @srjoshis - I do actually care, I got to learn something that was a little bit interesting while listening to a good song. Rather than just scrolling through the comments to see multiple comments about how this is "real music" and what Justin Bieber does is shit. @johchadow tried to share with you some knowledge, so don't be a dickhead.

  • allison???what about veronica??

  • @cutandpaste1 you mad huh :)

  • @cutandpaste1 fuck you :)

  • This reminds me of Pretty Little Liars.

  • My name is Allison :) I've been hearing this song since I was a baby...I love it!

  • @cutandpaste1 I know me too, this song makes me so happy when i listen to it with my friend Alison. She's going through tough times right now and im there for her. Im sure that's what you're going through too.

  • Nice recording, thank you.

  • Am I the only onw who thinks of Hyde from That 70s Show when hearing this song?

  • @Pippie that's what brought me here. I forget what episode it was from. But thats where i heard it.

  • @donutman119 I believe the episode is called Hyde's Punk Chick. It's the one where he almost moves to New York after falling for that biker girl, Chrissy.

  • @Pippie yes!!! thats the one. thank you. :)

  • Alison DiLaurentis ;)

  • Every time I hear this song I think of the part from the movie "Get Over It" when Berke is drunk and is on top of Alison's roof singing this song to her window.

  • @peach4peaceshortee I'm the same way, that was a good movie.

  • Does no one know that this song is about the narrator wanting to murder Alison? It's not that hard to notice.

  • @volcaniclimes Elvis denies it,according to rolling stone anyhow.

  • Mr. Costello is a very under rated artist. He is a great guitarist and is an extremely talented musician!!

  • I just saw elvis at the chicago theatre and i must say one hell of a performer.

  • As a child of the 60's I didn't get Elvis Costello at first. The punk persona with the amazing lyrical content that I didn't grasp at first. Thank goodness I woke up to his brilliance. He created an original style which stands up over the years.

  • Brandon Boyd of Incubus' version is better imo

  • If you first heard this song on "One Tree Hill," go somewhere else.

  • @BigJohnWoody Who cares where people heard it? Who the fuck do you think you are, Oh Arbiter Of Taste? Pull yourself together.

  • @SweepTheLegYo I am, actually. And I mean that in the most literal sense possible.

  • @BigJohnWoody Elitism gets you nowhere. It's not attractive, it doesn't make you look more intelligent or articulate. It just makes you look and sound like a petty culture vulture filled with resentment. Good luck bud.

  • @SweepTheLegYo You really pinned me down there. It's not often I comment on "art," such as it is in the case of "One Tree Hill," but I felt compelled to in this case. That should tell you something about how awful it is. I wish to add an exception to my original statement: If tuned in to see "One Tree Hill" accidentally, then you may continue to enjoy the stellar Elvis Costello.

At least I'm owning my righteous condescension.

  • @BigJohnWoody I can respect that.

  • I have always loved this song~~~

  • My favorite song in the world...am seeing him perform this summer, and I will be a blubbering idiot during this!

  • My daddy named me after this song. Can't wait for Costello's concert so i can see the man who gave me my name in person. :)

  • i came here because of PrettyLittleLiars book No. 2.

  • Damn I miss the good old days.Hanging out all day with your friends.Thinking you were in true love with the girl on your block.Playing stick ball, half ball and tops.Watching the girls jump rope.Plus all the great music!

  • Check out" Angels wanna wear my red shoes"

  • I remember when this came out in the post-punk new wave era It stuck out as old fashioned.......Great songs are never old.

  • thumbs up if you looked up this song because of pretty little liars

  • I just found out that a band called Clover did back up on this LP. I used to hear them practice in a house near the Muir Beach in Marin in the late 60's. They had this harmonica player who turned out to be Huey Lewis!

  • Had the most aggressive sex of my life with a woman named "Alison."

    Still counts, right?

  • When ever I hear this song, I think of dismemberment.

  • @frostedhead when i hear this song i remember That 70s Show, and how long it took me to find this song(5 years)

    lol i'm dumb

  • shane west does a great cover of this song.

  • You all do know this song is about murder, right?

  • You all do know this song is about murder.

  • I have a good friend her name is Allison, she is dying from lung cancer. "ohh Allsion, I know this world is killing you" I need a miracle THUMBS up to send a prayer to her.

  • @PERKO1966 prays for Allison and send her my wishes. I love this song

  • @PERKO1966 Allison , my thoughts are with you

  • @dan508 Hi Dan, thank you for your thoughts Allison passed away not long after I posted. She was in her early 40's way too young. But thank you for your thoughts

  • @PERKO1966 sorry to hear that she passed. I'll say a prayer for you and her family.

  • @PERKO1966 You got it...I'm sending up a prayer...but you posted 4 months ago, and I hope you still have her here, and the miracle came. Let me know. I have had cancer and so have many of my loved ones. Sometimes miracles do happen!

  • @whatanightmare1 Hi, Sadly Allison passed away a few weeks after I posted the comment. She was early 40's and left behind 2 children. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers

  • @PERKO1966 Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! It's always sad when a mom leaves children behind, too. Sending up a prayer for you all, that you can find comfort and peace. Rest in peace, Allison!

  • @PERKO1966 how is she now?

  • @kovertree she passed away a week after i posted the message. leaving 2 kids and loving family. thank you for asking

  • Comment removed

  • I removed my original post when I saw that she had passed away. It may be late, but please accept my condolences, Perko. I know what it's like to lose someone close to you through cancer.

  • @PERKO1966: "Alison" is quite different than "Allison," or "Allsion," for that matter! I give your friend a "THUMBS up" but cannot produce miracles (in the ordinary sense).

  • @PERKO1966

I'm sorry but praying will do nothing.

  • @JuggaloFaygoDrinker Hey thanks for your thoughts. Allison passed away a few weeks after I posted. So I guess you were right. congrats

  • @PERKO1966

I'm sorry to read that. My condolences.

  • ahahaha my name is Alison! my friend used to sing this to me & i wont lie, it was kind of annoying, but hearing it now, i find i really like it!

  • 1 person's aim wasn't true.

  • @ZyxthePest I know, right??... there just HAS to be people out there who just sift through songs (mostly songs they don't know at all!) and just push the dislike... to be dickwads. LoL. =)

  • Great song! Didnt really know this guy was such a great songwriter. Now I know.

Hyde meets that badass punk/biker chick hehe...they played the song while he was telling her he couldn't go with her to New York...

  • @nelson4568 yes! i found myself singing it again today and I finally decided to look it up. I always remembered it from 'That 70s Show'.
