  • fantastic made film, without a doubt a greatly told love story about boy meets girl and form a friendship and helped each other in a place where noone understands them.

  • This is one beautiful movie. I didn't want it to end.

  • great silent moving

  • Geek chic, goofy, retro. I hope Japan is like this. Is love to go one day.

  • My asian lit teacher said this movie is crude and stereotypes japanese. Ironic, because it was one of the major inspirations for me to go to Japan. Somehow, this captures every feeling I have for Japan, all in one film. Japan is goofy, Japan is love, Japan is everything in 1

  • @spinalkapp weeaboo

  • Whats the namee of the song?

  • @omemre3 Just Like Honey by The Jesus and Mary Chain

  • If you haven't seen this. Then do.

This is the most amazing film in the world. But don't expect to 'watch a film'. Expect to see something beyond film. It really is something very special.

  • @echoplexb I could not have put it better myself. I thought I was alone, because nobody I know that has seen this film has been affected like I have been. I only hope that someday I meet another person who has been touched by this film the same way I have been.

  • Ugh Bobby bobby bobby bobby bobby

  • I want to watch this movie only because I just found out that Graham from Blur loved it and he could relate to it...I'm such a fangirl.

  • GAY

  • wow i watched this movie over 7 years ago...man times fly...

  • what about this movie is good??? i just watched it and kept waiting for something exciting to happen..and nothing...........what a waste of like an hr and a half?!!!

  • @mikensal09 you know, I'm watching this movie right now and I can't imagine how right you are !

Fuck this shit I'm going to bed !

  • @880User088...lol thank you!! apparently i'm not thoughtful and wonderous because this movie isnt for me lol...yes this movie is just as boring as the people who watched and loved it lol

  • @mikensal09 this movie is not an action movie, its a drama. its slow and deep.

  • @nm11607...still...and i never thought scarlett would be in such a boring movie like this!!

  • @mikensal09 It's not for you. You're the type of person that needs cheap thrills and novelty.

This film will only touch a thoughtful and wonderous few of us.

  • @echoplexb...one word you and this film are boring!!!!!!! thoughtful and wonderous?? lol is that what you call yourself?

  • thanks god i dident watch this trailer before the movie..i would have missed a masterpice in exploring humans in depth..

  • Young s yoha... Wow~~

  • my comments may be irrelevant to great performances and work of the team on this movie, however, it only shows the ignorance the west (americans specially) lives or wants to live in. They do not seem to make any effort to learn the language of other country they stay in, even if it is for their own good and opportunity. They wud rather have entire country speak their language!

  • this movie is stupid, just saying...

  • @michelle0021able why you say that? :P

  • @michelle0021able You are emotionally 'stupid' or rather inept.

  • 01:25 you drive Porsche ?

  • Name of first song anyone? PLEASE?

  • @hidalgo699 learn lucid dreaming

  • @hidalgo699 Find a girl( if ur not gay but i bet u are),get a job , buy a car , finish some school , go to gym! BE A MAN!

  • LOL, your comment was like, damn!!, but what I expressed was just a state of mind.

Not something permanent. My comment was so "emo", things are already ok.

    It´s kinda embarrassing the things I wrote here . . .

  • i love that hospital scene where bob was talking to an old japanese and there were two girls behind them trying to control their laughters, this film has a really interesting sense of humor :)

  • I cannot explain how much I love this movie. It's beautiful in every single way.

  • @Jurassicprince i feel the same!!!!

  • its a lovely movie, and shes so cute!<3

  • What an awful movie.

  • @deathvalleyresident1 why you say that?:P

  • Two of my most favorite films of all time, this and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', have the most misleading trailers out there. This doesn't even come close to capturing the true beauty and emotion of the film.

  • @killeraddiction Holy shit, ESOTSM and Lost in Translation are my two favorite films too. I can watch them over and over again. Good taste, man. Respect.

  • @killeraddiction You know, I only watched "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" because Jim Carrey was in it. And I don't regret watching it.

I wasn't sure about seeing this movie though, but your comment helped me decide. :)

  • @killeraddiction a trailer never could do it

  • @killeraddiction

This comment is very strange considering I just rented both of those movies.

  • @killeraddiction "Midnight in Paris" had a pretty misleading trailer also.....

  • WTF, the trailer is so not reflecting the intensity of the film itself :o !

  • Wasn't Johansson 17 when she did this?

  • @MrCure4 she was??

  • @nm11607 Well she was born in 1984...

  • @MrCure4 and what? sorry i dont remember

  • bill murray and scarlett so smug and 'intelligent' in this film. walking round like they own japan lol

  • She is always playing this femme fatale...haha funny and repelling

  • Only the British can make the sound. Japan makes the scene. My beloved USA makes the story.

  • Anybody here know the second song?

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding by Elvis Costello. Awesome song.

  • this is stereotype too lol

  • very good from JP

  • The whisper scene at the end ironically hit me which was an intensified attitudinal scene. I am afraid they didn't have a sex scene which was infact merely necessary.

  • This movie disappointed me. The whole movie they built tension and passion between the main characters and then it ended without literally anything major happening between them.

  • @makk333 to me personally, that's what intensified the whole thing, left a deeper impression

  • @makk333 i think there is a message in that.

  • What? You lost me now. That's ok if you love Japan since you've been there, what I said in my very first post was that liking Japan because of anime is just stupid, and that going there because of anime is stupid as well too.

  • I love!!!!! This film.

  • How many of you know that the Director of this movie is the daughter of the Director of godfather, she was also in the godfather 3 as AL Pachino's daughter. :)

  • this is the best movie i´ve ever seen. And i normally watch Star Wars and that stuff! xD

  • My passion for Japan started with this film (and Ran as well) a few years ago and it made me visit Tokyo for 2 weeks, I came back yesterday and miss it already. Fuck all the nerds who like japan only because of anime, japanese culture is so much more than that... Japanese people are very kind and I spent some of the best nights in my life in Shibuya and Roppongi. Next year I might want to visit Kyoto, Osaka and the mt Fuji. Japan 4 ever

  • @DareDaniel100000

So your passion started with a film, mine started with Animes...just because I watch Animes doesn't mean I think Japan is like they show it in Animes. I really love their culture and I visited Tokyo too already, of course its WAY more than Anime stuff BUT that doesn't mean you have the right to say because you came to Japan through Animes you don't know it. Also, if you would watch the right Animes (Like Clannad) you would actually not say such things. Anime is NOT Naruto.

  • @Mightyaurrod sorry if my comment offended you, but you seem to fit in what I said before - loving japan because of anime is just plain stupid. Sure anime gives you some elements on the japanese culture but that's no reason for some people to be obsessed with a country they haven't even been before. I even prefer tv dramas to anime because at least I can see real people and places where they are set instead of animation.

  • @DareDaniel100000

Oh my. Somehow I feel like you are just an idiot, I don't even want to offend you with that, but you can't understand simple logic. As I said, I DONT love Japan because I like Anime, I just started watching Animes and through that I actually came to it, somewhere it HAS to start AND I'm sure I've read more books about Japan than you. And if you come with "Lol Naruto sucks I luv Onepiece" I don't even want to talk any further, because everyone hase an other taste.

  • @Mightyaurrod also, I loved clannad+ after story and I hate naruto (one piece super fan here), but that has nothing to do with loving japan or not because, like tv dramas, they are just two kinds of entertaining ways coming from japan, but films like LIT and Ran really offer you a lot more on the japanese culture

  • @DareDaniel100000

And as I said I was in Japan already and it ACTUALLY WAS like they showed it in Animes. Sure, not exactly, but it's not like they are showing Japan in an other picture in Animes. Also, if that has nothing to do with liking Japan, WHAT does then actually? With that logic, nothing has anything to do with EVERYTHING! If you personally like TV series more okay, but that doesn't mean everyone has to.

  • @Mightyaurrod " Japan already and it ACTUALLY WAS like they showed it in Animes."so did you spend all your time in akihabara? fair enough then. also, did you read more books about japan than me? good for you, I have never read a single one! As I said before, I've never been obsessed with JAPAN (not japanese TV SERIES) before actually going there because as I said before, that's just stupid. sure I was interested in that country (like many others) and that's what made me go there.

  • @DareDaniel100000

One day in Akihabara out of 2 weeks. I'll tell you again; I'm not an Otaku, but I like Japan. I like Anime. I like the people there, actually I like a lot of things about Japan. That's why I can say I love it - like I love my Wiener Schnitzel, you know? If you can't obsess yourself with something okay, but that doesn't mean others can't either. Seriously, culture and CHARACTERISTIC is something other. I don't go around in Japan being dissappointed because they don't act like

  • @DareDaniel100000

in Animes. But the things they do, like Club activities in school (just a bad example) is true.

  • BILL MURRAY WAS ROBBED OF THE OSCAR

  • kaato kaato kaato .....japenese yen, babes and technology....

  • for relaxing times watch porn...

  • nice cruisey movie, feel like ive just been on holiday in japan

  • this movie is so genious, all aspect is blended together, comedic, romantic, cultural distinction, 5 stars for this movie. i say salute for the sofia coppola, she is the director and writer of this movie. But astonishngly bill murray's performance may deliver delicate to its viewer. i really love actor bill murray (no homo), his performance in this motion pict is undeniably astounding and earthbreaking

  • i could so tell Sofia Coppola directed this without looking it up

  • A Masterpiece. Nothing else to say...

  • Reminds me of being back in Japan ^_^ X

  • i love this movie its one of my favortes because makes me feel like i'm in japan.

  • Bill Murray is very very underrated in this.

  • aww scarlett johansson looks so young and un-hollywood here! :D

  • shut the fuck up. stop ruining the movie for me, you try hards

  • I find Tokyo a really romantic city.. underneath the speed of life and insanity of it all, finding one other person to share it with. Paris is for people on their silver wedding anniversary.

  • @tomsega yep and anyway paris isnt romantic at all, except for tourists...

  • @tomsega I've been to Tokyo twice. I find Tokyo a fun city. For someone who is single (or at least a steady relationship). Especially Roppongi. Any single person should go to Roppongi and have fun there. But, out of all the cities I've been to. I personally find Rio De Janerio, Brazil a romantic city. It's such a mysterious city and so many things to see with that significant other.

  • @tomsega u gay?

  • @IAreChief I'm surprised you ever arrived at this video, given that 'Translation' is such a long word.

  • @tomsega lmao its funny coz u think ur smart

  • @tomsega hows paris?

  • lol scarlett can we make babies lmao!! :D

  • @walkerd80 grow up!

  • Amazing film. This is what real film making is all about.Brilliant directing.Never get tired of watching it.Unlike nowadays films, all action and no substance.

  • Good movie. Bill Murray is a great actor.

  • the movie is deeper if you've been in a situation like that anywhere in asia

  • Love Scarlett´s laugh at 1:12...

Does anybody know the name of any trailer song?

  • Favorite movie (:

  • Wow, what and incredibly...mediocre movie. Wasn't bad, but after it ended i just shrugged and went on to do other things. The only thing that i will probably remember about this movie is how STUNNING Scarlett Johanson is, in fact i'd guess she's the main reason why this movie is so loved.

Even the cinematography was just...okay, nothing really impressive, and it's easy to pull off good looking shots when you're filming in Tokyo, acting was okay, script was...okay. The whole movie is just "okay"

  • SUCH A MISLEADING TRAILER

  • @aetheriality thats true

they marketed it too much as a comedy. its not a comedy, certainly has funny parts but its not the main point of the movie

  • Where can I watch this without getting a virus and paying?

  • @KatyBMatey You can buy it for $5 in the discount bin at Walmart. Don't be so cheap. This movie is worth paying for.

  • @KatyBMatey thats what I asked that hooker

  • this movie make me feel lost and super lonely but i love it! great job!

  • Saw this movie for the first time today; I absolutely love it!

  • Th movie failed to impress me. it is too slow for its story. that makes it boring. really dull. in that sense the characters dilemma does come across to the audiences, but then it makes us bore too. I think more dialogues and conveying of what the characters are really thinking should have been added. the acting was not just plain okay. I don't know why Bill Murray was nominated.

  • @sidrahsiddiqui there's no "us" in here. you're here on you're own

  • @Aerodynamic14 by "us" here i meant all of those who felt the same as I did. "those" people might be less in number, but they are "us" none the less.

  • This is a phenomenal film.

On a side note, I was transfixed by Johansson's beauty and curious about how old she was. Did a quick search, and found:

Scarlett Johansson - "Born November 22, 1984, New York City"

Lost In Translation - "The movie was filmed in 27 days in October 2002"

I can't believe they got away with opening a film with a shot of a 17 year old girl's panties.

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven they get away doing so many things. why won't they get away with this when it is the coppolas.

  • I saw this movie. I didn't really get it but I liked the imagery and there were some touching moments and funny scenes where he's trying to talk to people in japanese. A little random but entertaining none the less.

  • lol... 1:25 the guys running with laser guns

  • Sofia Copolla is definately a better director than actress

  • 44 people are lost in translation.

  • is this the serius trailer??

  • Wow this trailer really does not do the movie justice. If I hadn't already seen the movie I'm not sure I would want to now.

  • This movie is amazing.. people who say this is a bad movie are too into 3D crap like Avatar...

    Avatards... xP

  • I love this movie. This is what I want love to be, like Charlotte and Bob's relationship.

  • It is clear that this movie is based on the prejudice coming from the shallow understanding of the culture of the director, so I will not see.

  • @loveyoufolks religion.

  • simple but beautiful!

  • Beautiful.. makes you smile, makes you cry, a fantastic movie.

  • this trailer sucks... the movie was better

  • This movie was AWFUL

  • I saw this last night for the first time and I loved it. Made me smile.
