These words, russian "gorod" (there also exists word "grad") and skandinavia "gård" is relatives, both are from old common indoeuropean language.

In russian you can find many with the same root, verbs and nouns. For example, "Ograda" = fence, means something defensive around settlement. "Gorodit'" = to construct. It cannot be just borrowing.

Russia kicked Sweden far from all wars, U loost many many wars against us, and in the Great Northern war The Russians suffered heavilyer causulties then the Swedes, Just look at Narva, 16 000 dead Russians and only 667 dead Swedes. And that was the Bloodiest battle in the Great Northern war.
