  • i love the mamas and the papas so much

  • they harmonized so well!

  • This song define the true meaning of the 60's, especially 1968 when America was going through one of the most profound moments in U.S. history and that includes Vietnam War, Armstrong landing on the moon, Robert Kennedy assassination , the hippie movement Woodstock, civil rights movement MLK assassination and the Beatles Rolling Stones rocking the world.

  • Great music for those turbulant times.

  • and the musical part?

  • Sometimes I wish I grew up in the 60's. This is one of those times.

  • The music is great, but their hair are horrible ;-)

  • Thumbs up if you're watching this 2006 video on 2011 :D

  • who's the fatty?

  • @willghass - that's a bad joke, surely?

  • @willghass That's Cass.

  • Mamas and Papas???? More a case of Papa and Daughter - the dirty cunt >:(

  • This is what hipsters wish they could be

  • I remember when I was in my Music Class

In Third Grade when my Teacher told us

"When you get your first car, promise that this will be the first song you play"

No I'm a Junior and I never forgot that. I WILL play this song first!

  • omg..phillips used to bang his OWN DAUGHTER....that ugly skank, McKenzie.

  • Yo, isn't it astounding what drugs will make us do--even to our own children??? John Phillips wasn't a pedophile by nature, especially toward his own daughter, but he WAS a victim of the profuse drug culture of his time. Why don't we remember the great music he created with the Mamas and Papas instead?

  • John Phillips even looked like a pedophile even with out facial hair

  • This stuff really makes you appreciate good music!

  • I think three out of the four are deceased can someone tell me if i am right or wrong

  • @chocolatebooty81 You're right. Only Michelle Phillips is still living.

  • Where are their microphones? They're lip syncing... but that's ok

  • I love that girl!! (the skinny one) damn! I should be born in the 60's

  • The version by Bobby Womack is soooooo much better!

  • benny benassi brought me here xD

  • cant get enough of this song atm.. 10 times in the past 2 days lol

  • omg i love this

  • Man what ugly hair but a great song

  • Michelle is the sole survivor of this group.

  • Pipes and lotz of em...Sounds great!

  • Epic Tuneee!!!!!

  • Michelle was screwing both the guys in the band? OHHHHHHHHHH...She was screwing me, too. I ain't complainin'

  • 1:07 Pure Heart and Soul. This song should never die.

  • ahh i love this song xD

  • what a shame michelle was screwing both these guys, it ended an awesome melodic band!

  • rip the mama's and the papa's

  • 61 people have never been to California...

  • @BigRob106 Make that 62 people. I have never been there. ;) Born and raised in New York.

  • @DominickFontana LOL well I meant since there are 61 dislikes. Apparently you have never been to Cali but still like this song. Classics are the best. Its very beautiful there. I may be partial because Ive only been to San Diego.

  • @BigRob106 Oh, I see, there were 61 dislikes. That's clever. I like the song, but never been to California. I'm lucky I've been to New Jersey. I don't travel that much. haha. The Mamas and the Papas were a great group.

  • @BigRob106 more like 90% of america

  • Unfortunately, I was born in Ohio. My half brother was born in San Diego, California. He has 'California Dreamin' tattooed across his upper back. Its a sick tattoo.

  • You can't beat this type of music...CLASSIC!

  • I wish I had Mama Cass's voice.

  • holy sh*t john dressed normally and don wears the poca dotted shirt

well isn't this a strange turn in events

  • @auggdogrules I'm not Mexican but I am Hispanic and I deeply care about Mexicans because most of my friends are Mexican. Nobody ever throws trash at soccer games. THEY WATCH. They bring in flags and cheer on. You should be disappointed of yourself for saying such racist things.

  • i like the blonde one the rest can watch us

  • wow! audio sucked in the 60's !

  • i am british but i have to say this is one of the coolest songs i have heard. this group is amazing..just wish i had discovered them earlier.

  • hey num1beatlesfan,like i said it's only racist if you are white, right,no it's called speaking my mind and telling the truth,go to mexico and protest there, quit corrupting the usa, mexico has one of the strictest immigration laws, but we do little and oh that's racist, don't feel so guilty....punk !

  • One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Denny Doherty had one of the best voices ever!

  • It's amazing how a song from the 60s can reignite such tumultuous feelings from a tumultuous time. 45 years later we're still fighting some of the same wars. As then and NOW, a really really beautiful song DURING AND FROM a very turbulent time. Find Love People!

  • I agree with the above comment. People should not be judged by their looks. Also, fat people make great sofas.

  • @larrydh57 they do, they really do.

  • Skinny One, Kinda Looks Like Taylor Swift :P

  • Uplifting song.

  • omg theyre awesome live ! (:

  • yea mrpaynmaker....i know it's racist, only from white people, but sure isn't when mexicans throw trash at usa soccer players in united states stadiums, yea that's graditude for the usa....go back to mexico and protest in your own dirty country !

  • awesome song !I miss the old times

  • los angeles, california was once a cool place until it was invaded by illegal aliens and parts now look like little tijuana...not racist just the truth !

  • @auggdogrules yea well those illegal aliens do the jobs you white people wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole

  • @MRPAYNMAKER You are EXACTLY right, dirty jobs done by dirty people.

  • @auggdogrules you suck. and so do your "not racist" comments. no one cares what you think. so get a life and stop posting offensive comments

  • Incest Loving Philips is what we should call him. Hey, not my opinion. Talk to his daughter Mackenzie Philips.

RICH PEOPLE CAN BE SO DISGUSTING. THEY BELIEVE THAT SINCE THEY HAVE OVER-INFLATED INCOMES THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY, WHEN THEY WANT, TO WHOM THEY WANT.

  • @tdbrown1963 Oh shut up.

  • @enzod1022

I thought this was the U.S. where the "Freedom of Speech" and Liberty is dished out like ice cream. Oh, yea. Our country was, is, and will always be based on hypocrisy dished out by people like you. Lies matter, never the truth.

  • i wish this song was double the length!! its such an awesome song :P

  • Great catch! Love the song :)

    ~thanks

  • quien es la muchacha de este maravilloso grupo que cuentan que tenia mucha hambre llega a su casa, abre el refrigerador y se hace un sandwich de jamon y por la desesperacion de comer se le queda atorado el sanwich en la boca y muere asfixiada?

  • One of my favourite songs of all times!

  • looks like a bunch of misfits who can write a mean song. whoda thunk?

  • @popp1nbottlez and your just an idiot that has nothing else to do but make fun of people because of how they look. GET A LIFE!

  • @popp1nbottlez hey im sorry ,that last comment was an impulse its one of my most favorite songs and i got defensive you have the right to your opinion and i didnt respect that . people say things that they wouldnt usuallysay on the internet im VERY SORRY!!!!!!

  • on a winters day....hum and sing to myself so many memories great group...lve it totally

  • lipsyncing?

  • its just amazing.

this song makes me feel... excited. i think there is a story behind this song . maby a sad one...

  • @morvri I watched the Biography on the Mamas and the papas and they said that...John Phillips said they were innew york and it was late fall/winter and it was so bitterly cold, and he and michelle actually did stop into a church while walking just to warm up, later that night he got the idea for the song and woke michelle up and had her hear the tune he was playing on the guitar. John told michelle to help him write the song at that very moment, therefore he gave her half credit to song.

  • FAKE!!!

  • Music like this is like a time machine for me. It takes you back to when you were a kid and the good days. I love this group but even music I didnt like at that time is pleasant as it does the same........takes you back to when times were a bit more easy going than they are now. I yearn for the 60s again

  • greate !

  • I dont know why but this song makes me sad:/ this song is amazing, i like this but is something wrong, I like it anyway..

  • I hate live lip syncing but it was worth seeing The Mamas & the Papas performing it...

  • this is just golden

  • It was in the 90's i think, doing it at school haha. I love this song, but i think they are lip singig there . R.I.P to who died.:)

  • such a old song but i love it :D! When did this come out? must have been in the 90s? i think...or the 80s O.o and R.I.P to who died.

  • Try the 60's buddy.

  • lolz oh thankz ^^ thats way before my time O.o im surprized that i even know something from the 60's xD

  • try the 60s

  • @XxXcutekittyXxX121-look at the clothes and hair....its the late 60s.

  • they wore those same duds for the photo on their album

  • As anyone can see from the intro, this isn't The Ed Sullivan Show, it's The Hollywood Palace. They had a revolving door of guest hosts, and that week it was Arthur Godfrey.

  • lol funny moves^^

  • No lipsync. Ed Sullivan did not allow lipsync on his show. the music was pre-recorded but the actually sang the song.

  • Denny R.I.P....I've seen interviews with him and he seemed like such a big-hearted, passionate person.

  • They live by always in their musics, smiling and singing.... by the eternity. fantastic music... peace and love.... forever.

  • "They live by always in their musics" lol wut?

  • the mamas and papas always lip sync!!

you cannot find any "live" versions of there stuff 'xcept for the monterey pop festival where they sucked big time!

they just couldnt dupicate the harmonies live....that's a fact....check you tube and you will see...all lip sync performances...

  • They were awesome on Monterrey Pop Festival ^^

  • RIP:(

  • Love this song!! Really Denny died 2 years today?! X( OMG!!

    Have a nice day!! :)

  • ...żyć w tych czasach...

  • pathetic

  • Rest In Peace Denny, 2 years today ): xxxx

  • Fit birds will always be fit. Mens fashion will always age horribly.

  • awesome song..

  • great song!

  • lip sync? wtf...

  • so original! love this song!

  • anne-liese brown

  • And makeup artists have always been good at what they do.

  • Mama Cass was attractive because she could SING!

  • Did Mama Cass were wigs? Sure looks like one here. Ever hear this version by America? You sure ain't missin' nuthin'!

  • I could stick 'Mama Cass' into those first three sentences, couldn't I? Even more mysterious about her. What made that woman, well, attractive, in more than one way? Much more than and very different to simply 'some men like that sort of thing'. That sort of thing, with her, was just, I guess, visual humility, yet you can tell that she knew she had it, which made it confidence. Plus, she was beautiful, and many men all along the timeline have outright desired whatever she was. . .and had.

  • Mmmm, mmmm! That Michelllle Phillips! She was so sexy, but in a totally demure way. She's one who never had to flaunt herself. She had it in a way that made you thnk she wasn't even aware of it. That trademark serious, hard-to-get-at look she gave out was part of her mystery. But, she grew out of all that.

  • think michelle was the muse for Brian Wilson when he wrote California Girls- she was the inspiration, at least that's the rumor- I believe it...

  • Que maravilla de verdad. Una lástima que no hagan ya canciones de esta calidad y todo sea puro marketing.

  • and pollution!

  • California, so beautiful, so wonderful, now buried in debts...

  • Didn't know lip syncing was around this time.

  • Yeah, lol.

  • xx, how old are you? 50's 60's 70's and even today, lip snycing is done - come on!

  • the one in the dress is ugly and the one in the striped shirt is ok.

  • We all care what you think don't we?

  • Let me guess. The one second to the left had a 'thyroid' problem?

  • Don't be so bloody disrespectful. You are talking about someone who died a few years later.

  • haha. dude i actually laughed out loud when i read that lol

  • Why people need to use language that is not appropiate to use is beyond reason. Grow up a little and think about this music that is so sweet to our souls. Amen.........and thank you for posting this tune..........

  • proof white people can't dance

  • hahah lol

this band is form the 60ies and 70ies in the time when the greatest songs ever were made

and the real and only thing was that u could sing unlike today...

  • 100% true

  • dork!

  • If Michelle is anything like Goldie Hawn, i'm sure she is still a killer babe. I like this music and the members were all great!

  • I like it!!!

  • this is bringing back memories.

  • I hate what the world has come to, can't you people appreciate music without judging the looks of someone, im sure you don't look too pretty either.

  • HAHAHAAHH NICE ONE u_u

    PEACE.

  • @xxcharmed1xx It's there way of trying to raise there own self esteem. I actually feel bad for them

  • @xxcharmed1xx best comment I've enver seen
