I bought mine new at a big department store called Weinstocks in the early 1990s. There were 3 sitting on a shelf in the furniture department. There weren't any other musical instruments in the entire store! They were $99 each. I wanted one but didn't have the money. They dropped the price to $80 and two of them sold. I wanted the last one and went to play around with it every day. They finally dropped the price to $50 and I bought it. I still have it.
Fantastic.I have one of these and love playing around with sample overdubs! The built-in effects are so crazy they can sound amazing too.Got mine mint with box for £2 at a car-boot sale!
Nice demonstration. The VSS-30 really had personality and character. Something that newer keyboards can only dream of (ever since the boring "General Midi" standard came up).
man, I have a question... I just got a vss30 but I'm having trouble understanding how it samples... I'm scared mine is not working right because sometimes it simples just for a fraction of a second, some other times it samples for like 3 seconds, some other times I don't get it to sample... I mean, I am just pushing keys like crazy because I don't get how it works... is the length of the sample adjustable? or is it just that mine is bad - hope not
@geochange in my case I figured out that it was because I was not close enough. It seems that the mic for sampling in the Vss-30 has very low sensitivity. It doesn't get low frequencies, I think... so you may have to get real close to the mic when getting low sounds, or even low voice, etc. I also figured out that the mic won't start sampling until there is something loud enough to sample. Sometimes I better use the side plugs to send a sound in. If you have more questions let me know
Yes! The VSS-30 has vibrato, and you can edit the FM sounds with the most sample parameters. On the VSS-200 you can't edit the FM sounds. You must sample the sound, then you can edit it as a sample - that sounds different. And you have "arpeggio styles" instead of rhythms.
Wow, what an interesting keyboard, it seems like it's a bit more powerful and has a few more features than the Casio SK-1, though I can't talk as I've not used either keyboards. Can this one run on batteries?

@ognistik: I have the same problem.
did you find out anything about this.
I just got mine and it only works partial amount of times. Is there an internal battery?
Please, someone.

Excellent job!
There's something the VSS-30 can do that the VSS-200 can not?
Thank you!

the sampling engine seems to be better on the VSS-30. The built in mic sounds better and also the loop function works more effective.
