I wonder if the part where the bug, spider and snake are.....AHEM!....having dinner, (0:23-0:33)if it was set up that way intentionally the way she yells 8 (ate)? It seems like at the moment each one of them goes "CHOMP!" she yells ATE (EIGHT)......FUNNY!
@269848 With the way people are, the part where the bug spider and snake are eating each other, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if some left-field P.C. activist would think that's too violent! .....Seriously, I wouldn't doubt it. Sad but true today.
Can I give eight stars??? Love the JaZZy sPIeS, especially with Gracie Slick from Jefferson Airplane on vocals. They're all great, but 3 5 8 and 10 are my faves...Thanks for posting!!!
I wondered about that myself - maybe that's why I've seen ALL the 'jazzy spies' sequences hundreds of times, but I only saw the # 8 one once and only once - I asked my mom about that, but she didn't know (she worked for CTW)
Yea I remember the Ernie and Bert clip that followed the 8 clip. I 1 the sandbox, I 2 the sandbox, etc. all the way up to Burt saying I 8 the sandbox. LOL
At first I thought that caterpillar was a small hippo and I wondered if spiders like to eat hippoes. Then I learned from a SS book that it was actually a caterpillar. Too bad he never had a chance to become a butterfly.
I know you didn't record that many muppet segments but did you manage to record the Ernie and Bert sketch that was occasionaly shown after this called "I-8 the sandbox"?
Did you know that in the first episode of SS the #8 Jazz Numbers clip premiered, you can actually hear the eight ball being struck by a cue stick just before the clip begins? I know this is worthless information because I can't for the life of me remember which episode # it is, but it's true. Turn your TV volume up very loud as the videotape monster sketch is ending, just before the Jazz Numbers # 8 starts, and you'll clearly hear it.
The preceding monster sketch was actually an Anything Muppet sketch - about two Anything Muppets who overreacted to disappointments. A smudge of dirt got on a little blonde girl's hanky or dress, then got on her brother's shoe or something, and they each freaked out when it got on them. There were 3 sketches like 3 acts, with cartoon clips as commercial breaks. The cue stick sound immediately follows the fadeout of final act. I have it on VHS. I need to find it.
It parodied a soap opera. There was an announcer intoning the name of "the soap". And soap was part of an injoke to the story - because soap solved the problem of dirt the two sibling muppets were upset about. Noggin aired this and it's where I got it - a 1969 episode. Anyone else see this?
I don't know if I'd call that ironic... I had an uncle who smoked for 50 years. He quit for one day and choked to death on a piece of nicotine gum. Now that's ironic!
The ironic thing is that Jazz #3 actually did show a devil (the numeral turned into the prongs of a trident it held). Hopefully, my video-editing friend can post a Noggin-free version of that one soon!
Thanks for posting this one. I've been looking for it since it got pulled off awhile ago. This one, 10 and 5 are my favorite ones. I love the clever pun of eight and ate. That's what I like about old SS, it never talked down to kids and was always smart and witty unlike today's shows.
What would complete my dy is that you get the clip with two ; y'know the clip where there was a train and a man saying twotugutwotugutwotugutwotugutwo,... .

I wonder if any of the classic clips would work on today's SS shows. This might!

That snake eating the spider is ingrained in my psyche - how bizarre these were.

I bet this jazzy spies sketch gave some kids nightmares about being eaten by caterpiller, who is eaten by a spider, who is eaten by a snake.
I once had that dream anyway.

I think LSD and other psychedelic drugs were involved in the making of these Jazzy Spies cartoons...LOL! These are so subliminally sinister.
But I love these! They make me so nostalgic. =(

It's funny that these are called "Jazzy Spies" on here. I always called them "Racecar Counting." Classics!

Why are these clips called Jazzy Spies?
lkrny 4 years ago
Because it's set to jazz music and the guys at the end are supposed to be spies.
That caterpiller is sure weird looking. I always thought it was a hippo when I was a kid.

@DragonLord1975 where is jazzy spies 1 i got 2-10 but no 1 where is it?
binturong1000 10 months ago
@binturong1000 From what I read, there WAS no Jazz #1. The only thing that had a #1 was the baker segments. That's how it goes, I guess.
