The reason they said white was because there must have been people with darker skin around him at that point.
Btw No turks were associated with muslims at that time. Only arabs, some romans, some persians and blacks(mostly ethiopians)
And they never used the word white the used the word red.
The word is used to describe whites and light skinned black.
