@thegameulost If I am not mistaken the Film was based on the game, I can remember playing the game in elementary school(lol feel old now at 20) and the previews for the Film showing not even a month after our discovery of the game lol
Comming Soon In February 8, 2013 In Disney Digital 3-D Is Are Called The Black Cauldron in 3-D With Teaser Trailer Of The Snow Queen In November 2013 In Coming Soon
That's an interesting way to end the game. As I recall in the PC version, if you tried to jump in at that point, Hen Wen races in and leaps in before you can.
this is one of the first games i played over and over again!! i had the version without "save" option, and i remember that i played it all over again when i die! :)
This is a great game - open-ended gameplay, nicely atmospheric considering the tech, and a smart interface that I'd take over a text parser or point n click any day (though I really wish the actions weren't assigned to the fuction keys - that was just weird). Thanks for posting.
@fraudcakes Obviously what one could expect from the team behind "King's Quest". Interestingly enough, Al Lowe (who helped designed the game) would later be famous for the original "Leisure Suit Larry" and "Freddy Pharkas", and programmer Scott Murphy went on to create "Space Quest" with Mark Crowe.
This game scared the crap out of me when I was a lad, especially the Gwythaint and the beastly noise of its wings. Actually, all the sounds in this game were rather startling.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS ON THERE!!!, i was like 8 when i played this game and im 15 now. to this day i still wondered how to get to that dam castle, but i know now :), i remember getting the pig to the fairies and then trying to get to the stupid castle. This was my first video game i had ever played, so thank you SO much to bring back all of thoughs memories. You are AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. You get the magic word at the cottage and use it to get the boulder to go down and get into the roo with the fairies
2. You visit the witches before the castle and give them the magic mirror the first time
3. An most importantly, at the start of the game you give the little creature, Gurgi the cookies so he'll be your friend, then at the end of the game as you try to jump into the cauldron he runs in and jumps in to save you.
1. Yep, don't let the pig get captured by the dragon. Take him to the cottage and the fairies keep him safe. In turn they give you the "magic word". Walk to the waterfall and say the magic word and the stone goes down and you walk into the fairy cave (actually, I never knew you could leap on the stones to get into the fairy cave).
2. Yep, use the magic mirror on the witches. They'll cast a spell and it's reflected back and they'll turn into frogs. Never knew you could give them the sword.
@AngeDeLumiere Actually, you get a full score by walking in and showing the mirror to the evil guy. He's apparently so horrified by the image that he jumps in himself.
Ive been watching all the sierra walkthrough on here. this was my first gem and on PC Jr!! LOve this thanks for posting! I might get fired because Ive been watching to many of these.
man I loved playing this game so much. my friend and I were just reminiscing over the classic Sierra adventure games (kings quest, space quest, black cauldron)
I read all the books like twice each when I was a kid. Actually first I played this game on my Tandy 1000 when I was like 5. Loved it. Then I learned there was a book called The Black Cauldron. Tried to read it and didn't know what was going on. Then I got the first one and read them all.
you never met Gurgi in the forest that's why you didn't win the game. Gurgi jumps in instead of you then the witches offer you 3 wishes. you wish for gurgi back. looks like you will have to play again.
none of this is in the books its just sad it a discrace to those awsome books ps where is gwydion and dolli and the hunts men u people should really read the books tey great.
Great game, but sometimes being recorded with messages cleared out much too fast, even for those who use the play/pause link.
The correct way to do it is to record the video so that it can be read, when on the play mode, at a normal pace, without having to click continuously on play/pause to manage to read it. It's taking almost no extra megabytes to do so, because when the video stays on the pause mode , there is not more megabytes being used.
Thank you for posting this. I never beat this damn game when I was a kid and now I finally get to see the end. BTW I played this on a Tandy 1000. OLD Machine.
Hehee the old graphics are so funny, but the little people and animals are cute XD I love how Taran shakes his head when he falls down; it's hilarious XDXDxD
The movie was loosely based on the book by Lloyd Alexander. The game was based on the movie. I remember wasting many hours of my life on this game. Brings back memories...
No problem. There are five books in the set. The entire series is called the "Prydain Chronicles", and you can probably find it in the young adult section of most libraries.
And there is much more to the original story as well. I loved the books and was disappointed to discover that the animated movie is VERY *loosely* based on the book. The Black Cauldron is the second in a set of 5 books. The movie is about 20% from the first book, 30% from the second book and 50% stuff that the movie makers just made up.
This just looks, and sounds awful! I would never have guessed that this was running on an Amiga, it looks distinctly 8-bit.

That's because Peasant's Quest is a direct parody of this genre of game.

Peasants Quest is a parody of Kings Quest, which is made by Sierra On-Line, who also made this game.
