This cat is the business,it's all there the whole history of jazz the lot.Notice that this cat plays as a total unit at all times. It is simply a band .A rare quality .You don't get much Better than t.he BergonZ..
I once had the pleasure of telling that, that the band was a unit at all times,. through soloing.
He is a really nice guy too and is willing to give you a few moments of his time,
If anyone is moving things forward hear it is, Thanks for posting.
Bergonzi is unique !! A very jazz masters. Bergonzi is a summa and a sinthesys of t.sax modern tradition from Rollins (rhythm), Coltrane (Intensity), Henderson (obliquity and harmony) and also something of Shorter. Bergonzi don't copy any of them because he have his sound and stile. Brecker don't have his intensity and Potter is something that is similar to Bergonzi limited to the surface of his style (sound mecanique).

Chris potter and George Garzone and Michael Brecker know (or knew) the horn better, but Jerry is one of my favorite sax players.... What a SOUND !!!!!!!
Why do I see a -1 ???? I said Jerry was one of the best sax players in the world, of course he knows the horn perfectly, but sorry, when you see Chris, or Brecker playin....
Dude, when Brecker was aksed if he considered himself todays greatest saxophonist he replied"I don't know, you would have to ask Jerry Bergonzi..."Got the message? And Potter is not even close to the Gonz.
I know Brecker was feared by Bergonzi, but Brecker was just too humble. I love Jerry bergonzi, man why are you discussing ?? Potter is just the future of the tenor sax and of the music.
Brecker feared by Bergonzi?I ,and I am sure many others, would really be very interested in knowing how you obtained that information?I'm sure you will share it with all of us...
Now, the one staring to discuss are you by comparing Bergonzi to Brecker,Potter and Garzone so relax if someone replies .
Potter could'nt carry Jerrys reedguard and he'd probably tell you yourself if you asked him.
sorry, you've not listened to Chris Potter... This man has a sense of melody and logical developpement of an improvisation, great sound, great compositions, great groups...
I think bergonzi is more in the tradition of a certain tenor sound, this why he sounds so different than a potter or a brecker, but man! Bergonzi has really a complete knowledge of the saxophone!
Jerry has it all...Tone , chops , rhythm , soul ! Arguably the greatest sax player ! !
