@GraveD1gger hi, I had a british shorthair for about 21 years, he would only get mats if the least amount of water got on him. It didn't happen often because he avoided getting wet at all costs. Every once in a while if he was outside and the grass was wet or he got caught in rain fall he would mat up instantly. I had to always get a towel and dry him right away and go over him with a brush. It's just the nature of their fur. Hope this helps as to why kitty is getting matted. Peace
