Please tell me this is not White Lion music playing. They are responsible for this. What kind of idiot sprays flames into any wall? Basically, they set the fire, then ran out of the side. They didn't turn around to show people the side way out, they just ran like chicken shits. Personally, I think the fire was intentionally set and the owners were burning all those people as a satanic sacrifice.
What a terrible tragedy. My condolences to everyone that lost someone special to them. Also my heart goes out to everyone that was injured. One minute you are enjoying the time of your life and the next minute you are fighting for it. I couldn`t imagine what those poor people went through, RIP
I remember the night when this happened like yesterday. I go to clubs like this to see bands. I saw Savatage at a club like this. I think back, I never knew where the fire exits were. RIP to all the metal loving people who died doing what they loved. Your sacrafice ensures this never happens again. EVER!
Anyone care to join me in passing a law that says if a club owner or manager illegally seals exits they go to JAIL..BEFORE the fire..and I am talking a few 100 inspector foot soldiers that go out and check out clubs on a regular basis. I know this is probably a simple and angry reflex action to this kind of horror and I'm sorry about that, But what the %&#*!! This stuff just cant be tolerated.
I will never EVER forget this tragedy. When I think of the 100's of clubs/bars/concerts I've been to and how lucky I've been. Since this happened, I ALWAYS stand by an exit and make sure I know where they are all located. I tell my friends and kids to always make sure they do the same thing. God bless to all who's lives have been affected from this unfortunate fire.
God be with all these peoples families..midnightmagig4u sounds like you had a premenition dream!!!, your friend Louie was saying good-bye to you and don't be sad for me I'm in a good place now!!!..and he is, he's in rock-n-roll heaven!!!

God is an easy target...my brother died and I blamed myself for a long time. However, I would never have known the joys and heartaches of my parents and I raising his 3 daughters - now 10, 15 and 17. You sound like a perceptive person because you blamed the One who is above all. I hope you don't mind it if I add you to my daily prayers. I wish you all the best and sometimes be still and let the pain go! Take care!
I knew 3 people who perished in the fire, Dennis Smith, Christopher Prouty, and Mike Gonsalves aka Doctor Metal. RIP Doctor your enthusiastic presentations of "The Metal Zone" made my Saturday nights.
I watched the whole video today in our fire class and it was a very horrible thing to see all those people having fun and then the tragedy that followed , I had a hard time watching this - My prayers are with all the families that lost someone in that fire
Im from RI and Know people who were there that night. And it is one of the most hoorible tragedies in American history. But the fact of the matter is, Im sure that the band, the manager and the club owners feel guilty. They are being treated as If they are cold blooded murderers. and I don't think they are. it was just a horrible mistake that unfortunately cost 100 lives. But I realize that someone has to answer for it.
I was there...I live with guilt every day that I made it out alive....I was spared...God bless the families of the ones lost and the ones left to suffer...changed my life forever.
I was visiting RI and visited the fire site on 8/25/09. The memorials in the video remain along with the memories of all those lost. It was very moving to see all the real human faces that were lost there.
I hope the site is eventually given a more permanent memorial.
After seeing how small the building was, it was easy to understand why so many people got trapped inside. What a horrible way to end ones life.
This is so moving Somehow brings it home to you that these were dearly loved people and not just a name printed in a newspaper. May they all R.I.P. and may their loved ones take comfort from their happy memories of them. Thank you and thanks to Paul (HerkyHawk) who shared. Jan and Susan ♥
i live about 10 minutes down the road. my dad was on his way home and when he came home he said he was going to see Great White at the station with my mom. he went but when he got there it was so crowded he left. he didnt tell me he left so when i heard there was a fire i was freaking out... untill my dad walked in the door 10 minutes later. RIP victims
I did not know anyone personally who were in this. I just recall seeing it on the news and recently reading about it in a book. I forced myself to watch the raw footage taken at the night club that night and it has effected me. This was/is all so awfuly depressing. I am sorry for everyone and hope those who live on are doing okay now. also my heart goes out to everyone. hugs from Jenny, Olathe, Ks.
I was spared of that disaster, We had forgoten that date, bt me and my brother were gona go - then we heard that shit had happened, I feel bad for all the familys who lost their loved one's but there is hope for these by the comming of Christ.
I visited the site 3 years after it happened. I have to tell you seeing all those crosses and knowing some of these people were my age and had kids like I do and those kids lost their parents, I have to tell you I was overcome. I cried.
when i turned on the tv that night, it changed my life forever, i didnt even know these people, all i know is it touched me to a point that i still think about the people burning at the door, and some guy handing her his jacket and another guy trying to pull on it too, he had to let go, im sure it still haunts this guy to this day, they showed that on the news the first night, over and over again, so so sad, god bless there families, im very sorry for your loss, still no memorial there? thats sad!
Night before fire I talked Louie we made plans to go out night after the concert. I couldnt go to the show had school.Friday morning my friend called said they can't find Louie. That night I had a dream, everything was blue, no ceiling, no floor, just a line of confused people standing there wondering what the heck was going on.Looking around confused, not freaking out. I look at everyone, found Louie.I asked him if he was ok. He just gave me that big Louie grin. I knew he was.I miss you Louie
Tragic event in RI's history. Each death was horriffic...trampling, suffocation and burning. To understand these people were piled up at the door, trapped almost is overwhelming to imagine. Helpless and scared in the DARK smoke. That night they were taken into the arms of the angels. They look down upon their families and smile. All we can do is remember them and who they were, happy in life. I'm comforted knowing they are with God now. Rest In Peace everyone.
@HeidiLongley for touring purposes, it does = that. The tour managers job is to handle all logistics involved in getting the band onstage, and to the next town. as well as all the particulars regarding production. which includes the decision to put pyro on a stage in a club that was nowhere prepared for it.
My girlfriend (at the time)and I hung out with Ty Longely that very day, and we're on his list to go to the show, and didn't go cause she had a "bad feeling"... We were visiting some friends who ended up going to the show, and getting out ok... cause they were outside smoking at the time. Ty was a great guy. But you can't honestly blame the band. It's the cheap club owners fault, I know the two owners, they are VERY cheap! We were actually probably the last people to hug him before the tragedy.
Although i am in florida i use to live in coventry and go to the station frequently cause 1 of the bouncers and waitressa are good friends of mine and i knew 1 of the persons that passed away in the fire.I dont care who is to blame , but we lost alot of great people in that fire including dr metal.
no matter how mad you get..its not bringing no one back...(my tone of talking is sad)...just gotta beleive every thing happens for a reason....god bless
Its not the bands fault Jackass. There are pyrotechnics at rock shows. its the club owners fault and the fire marshalls fault for passing the inspection.
there are not pyrotechnics at club shows where they are using 45/45 gerbs. that means: it will shoot flame/sparks 45 feet into the air, for 45 full seconds. the clubs roof was no more than 15 feet high on the stage. do the math. The band elected to use the pyro, so therefore it is indeed their fault, as it is the fault of the club, the person who pushed the button on the pyro and everyone else involved in letting this happen.
No, the band management is to blame not "the band" as they did NOT make those decisions. The person who decided that pyro was going on the road and to be part of the show was no even at the show that night nor was he charged for ANYTHING!
Who approved them? Who allowed the club to pass fire inspection? I have a child who will NEVER have his father. I understand your loss as I also lost friends and family however you can NOT blame musicians as not all the members of Great White that night had a say in the set list let alone the pyro...... That is the truth.
touching story, but really, the band is to blame. they brought the pyro, set it up and had their roadie set it off. The pyro used was called 45/45 gerb. It is a spark emitting device that burns for precisely 45 seconds, and shoots sparks 45 feet into the air. this clubs ceiling was less than 20 at the stage, Im guessing 15 feet. So, anyone should have been able to deduce that it would end up this way. everyone involved in the production: band, crew, bar, staff are responsible.
@nu2life80 Well, I disagree. It really was the band's fault. They are they one that set the fire. Then they run out and don't direct anyone to the side. Then there's one way out with doors that turn inward. Those doors basically caused the jam. It's like Chinese hand cuffs. Look at the beginning of the tape, the doors are already starting to cause a fatal crush. One the fatal crush started, the people in the doors became wedged in and was impossible to move. A lot of those people burned alive.
So I hear they are going to get a 100 million settlement, but they are going to calculate what each persons life was worth. If you were 20 and working at burger king, you'd get perhaps $100,000. If you were in your late 20's and had a college degree, you will get several million dollars. That is how the system is. They kill you and then they rate what your life was worth. Pretty cold.
Doctor Metal was my brother-in-law's best friend. He still has a hard time with this. Such a waste. Going to this memorial really put u in a heavy place. Such emotion the moment u stepped into the space. RIP people, RIP
@HeidiLongley It's hard not to think about Ty. He was a great inspiration to me, in personality, and playing style. I'm very sorry he never got to see his son. It's incredible how insensitive how some people can be about this kind of thing. Everyone is too busy pointing fingers to realize that people's lives were changed forever.
That sign is wrong...i know it is sad but it was an accident...it was not great whites fault...and they act like the band didn't understand death...i seem to recall the annoucing that their guitar player perished in the fire too
sorry, but your wrong. The band itself chose to use pyro. the pyro used is known as a 45/45 gerb. It burns for precisely 45 seconds, to a height of 45 feet. The club DID NOT set the pyro up. the bands CREW did. AT THE BANDS REQUEST.
Therefore, ALL involved in putting this show on are at fault. Ive been in the staging business 10 years, those kind of pyro are only ever used in hockey arenas and large stadiums because of the fact that they throw sparks FOURTY FIVE FEET into the air..
actually, I believe a 45/45 gerb burns for 45 seconds at a 45 degree angle, not 45 feet in the air. if you have seen the video, it clearly isn't 45 feet
"sorry" but I DO know what im talking about. A 25x25 shoots 25 feet in the air, for 25 full seconds. While I feel for your loss, you presume that I am not a member of IATSE and not a trained and knowledgable pyrotechnician as well as stagehand. The band did indeed have at least one crew member, who set off the pyro, and setupthe pyro. PYRO only belongs in a hockey arena, or outdoors. NOT in a building with a 15 foot ceiling covered with foam rubber.
"Sorry" but you do not know what you're talking about....The band did NOT have any crew! The gerbs that were used did NOT shoot 45 feet! THAT is hilarious!!!
GW was a fun party band and so were all their fans. I saw em in Sacramento 3 times, and always shared smoke and drink at their shows with total strangers. How FUCKIN COOL IS THAT?
Back home, we partied on country roads as teenagers to their music. Great part of my growing up. So sad about the fire.
Yes, I understand I wrote "LOL" I was also making fun of how he "thought" he knew the information. YOU were correct, they go for a certain amount of time. They are also technically listed as "stage effects" not pyro but hey "Smacky" already knew that. ;)
@HeidiLongley anything that burns, flashes or emits embers is considered pyrotechnics under OSHA, and IATSE bylaws. As such, there are certain conditions that must be met, including having a fire truck on site, a fire crew at the ready and insurance in place. was any of this done?
I can only imagine the shock of seeing the pyrotechniques hitting the foam, and the flames starting to spread. The once-cheering concertgoers starting to panic as the fire is getting bigger, trying to find SOMEWAY out of the building, out of harm's way. Once the smoke started blanketing the whole club, and the ability to breathe becoming increasingly difficult, it was sheer panic at that point. How lucky are the ones who got out safely. How lucky are the ones who are still alive!!
I am not related to any of those who lost their lives, who were injured, the rescue people or their families. But this tradgedy so affects me,i start to tear uo whenever i see anything about it. I would like to go to the site to pay my respects and offer my prayers but for now all i can do is offer them here. If anyone from the area sees this message please pass my thoughts and prayers to the friends and families of those who were lost and injured. Peace,"cenmaroon"-Sioux City,Iowa
this was a heart breaking event anyone who has been to a club show should think there for the grace of god go i. god bless the families n survivers our prayers r with them all.

That sign is wrong...i know it is sad but it was an accident...it was not great whites fault...and they act like the band didn't understand death...i seem to recall the annoucing that their guitar player perished in the fire too
AerotechMan101 3 years ago 4
sorry, but your wrong.
Ive been in the staging business 10 years, those kind of pyro are only ever used in hockey arenas and large stadiums because of the fact that they throw sparks FOURTY FIVE FEET into the air..
smackythefrog23 2 years ago
actually, I believe a 45/45 gerb burns for 45 seconds at a 45 degree angle, not 45 feet in the air. if you have seen the video, it clearly isn't 45 feet
Lighttheskyup 2 years ago 3
that is correct
45 feet? you ave to question why some people post such obviously erroneous info
tarff26 2 years ago
@tarff26 Exactly. I think it is quite obvious that nobody would be crazy enough to put something shooting 45 feet under a roof maybe 10 feet high.

@tarff26
Well, he posted that because he worked in the staging business for 10 years! LOL Good grief!

@HeidiLongley hi sorry to ask but how did the band escape the fire ? but the guitarist didnt?

@smackythefrog23

Such a tragic loss. lEARN FROM THIS PEOPLE.
nICE VIDEO. Thanks for posting.

I remember seeing the video that was shot that night
Very appropriate song to go with this tribute
I just feel bad for all involved they just wanted to see Great White
VH1 Classic just showed the concert that was to raise money and it was hosted by Dee Snider
Alot of bands showed accept Great White.....I wonder why

@Wheeljack35
The same reason they did not attend their guitar player's funeral.... But I don't have to tell you why you seem to already know! ;)
HeidiLongley 1 year ago
@HeidiLongley Yes but he quite obviously made a mistake. I was questioning why he would post 'info' which was so obviously false
tarff26 1 year ago
@tarff26
Yes, I understand I wrote "LOL" I was also making fun of how he "thought" he knew the information. YOU were correct, they go for a certain amount of time. They are also technically listed as "stage effects" not pyro but hey "Smacky" already knew that. ;)
HeidiLongley 1 year ago
@HeidiLongley AH, OK, sorry. I didn't get the sarcasm in your reply ;)

@HeidiLongley anything that burns, flashes or emits embers is considered pyrotechnics under OSHA, and IATSE bylaws. As such, there are certain conditions that must be met, including having a fire truck on site, a fire crew at the ready and insurance in place. was any of this done?
smackythefrog23 1 year ago
@HeidiLongley also, it was determined in Federal COURT that these were indeed negligently placed and unapproved.and cnsidered pyrotechnics.
smackythefrog23 1 year ago
I can only imagine the shock of seeing the pyrotechniques hitting the foam, and the flames starting to spread. The once-cheering concertgoers starting to panic as the fire is getting bigger, trying to find SOMEWAY out of the building, out of harm's way. Once the smoke started blanketing the whole club, and the ability to breathe becoming increasingly difficult, it was sheer panic at that point. How lucky are the ones who got out safely. How lucky are the ones who are still alive!!
