@Megalithomaniac ah, of course, how could i forget, its just so surprising to hear chompsky clinging on to this naive marxian concept of power as concentrated in the hands of the elites. well, as i remember foucault didnt convince him in the debate, and that shows...
@OldSchoolSkill Partly true, but capitalism is a consumer-driven system. Capitalism will give the consumer whatever he wants whether it's good for him or not -- and that is fair. That just the nature of it. Other systems like Socialism and Communism are more labor-driven. It's not nearly as driven by the owners as you think. If the owners don't give the consumers what they want, they will fail. The problem you may say is that the consumer can be fooled. The role of government is to punish this.

@G1formation Voting solves nothing. Yes, you may vote for a specific leader to take office but once he/she is in office you lose all of your say in the running of the coutry, state, city, town, county. Do you vote for the laws and bills that are passed? No. ( Unless you are the one in power.) These laws and bills are forced on the mass populas. The country of the U.S.A is somewhat of an oligarchy for the laws are decided by 0.0000001% of the population and then forced onto the rest of us.
@G1formation We learned about the "power of the people" in elementary school through high school...but if you continue on and go into say Sociology...you will learn the bitter truth. You say power of the people...but likely could not articulate in detail what that means. (I am not insulting you!) If the elite...or rather "power elite" control the ideology of the nation...then they influence your values and thus decision making. We live in a mass society...not a public society. Look into CW Mills
@TulkorHAOMARUSH Fuck the elite assholes trying to destroy our great nation. In the US its about power to the people. Americans rise up, find truth, and will destroy the evil element trying to bring US down. They dont control the ideology of the nation, cant you see that people are pissed off and tired of the bullshit? Youtube should be proof enough that the old ways of brainwashing US are OVER, and were gonna take our country back.
@G1formation People may be annoyed by this or that and may be annoyed enough to give a little rant...but then they continue to live the lives of a slave...go to the malls, buy into the crap. And in fact the power elite do control our ideology overall. We are a mass society of ignorant, disengaged people who do not communicate on a collective level that elites do. Too many people are comfortable enough with their lives that they are unwilling to change society.
@TulkorHAOMARUSH Too many people are comfortable yes. They are not ignorant, most people know damn well what is going on, and they accept it. In American society you can do pretty much anything you want. Im free and not influenced by the power elite or whatever ideology they try to push on us. The responsibility lies within the family. Its upto you to go shopping, and you can choose what you watch and believe. People are people, not sheep. The US is amongst the freeest societies in the world.
@G1formation And on top of that...too many people who are pissed with our government, the elites...think our current system is perfectly fine except for these people. They think Capitalism is fine, they think competition is fine, they think profit is fine, and they think the monetary system (debt created interest bearing currency) is fine. Many think that Ron Paul is the answer and that all they need to do is get him in office and he will fix everything. Voting does NOT change the system.
@TulkorHAOMARUSH Voting most certainly changes the system. America has its oligarchy but they are always threatened. The US is a vibrant democracy in which the people have much power, things always change in the US. Politicians and the oligarchy are always struggling to retain their grip of power.
@G1formation Ugh no...it doesn't CHANGE THE SYSTEM. Voting a new douche in might change policies here and there but it does not change the system. Do you think if you vote a communist party into presidency that the government will magically be Communism? No...because the system stays the same. Voting is there to give you the illusion that you have a choice and have a say. There is no power to the people in a mass society.
@G1formation And on top of that...we live in a "two party system". There is only Democrats and Republicans and those parties will ONLY allow certain candidates in. And the ones they want the media will hype up...INFLUENCING the masses choice. Hence why a vast majority of people who vote go either democrat or republican. I am not saying YOU vote that, but you seem to fall victim to believing in your freedom of choice.
@TulkorHAOMARUSH Im sorry but thats a cowardly narrow minded view of defeat. Laws are based county and statewide in the US. Voting changes everything all the time in the US. Any candidate can get in actually this is why you see all these idiots campaigning. There is more choice here than anything and laws enforced statewide, most states ignore numerous federal laws. I think youre smoking weed.
Any presidential system is not a democracy. Presidential systems are an outdated acronym. Parliamentary systems are inherently more accountable and more stable then presidential systems. It cost Millions of dollars to elect a head of state. Makes the people feel good but it is not democratic or accountable. There are more succesful parliamentary democracies then there are presidential regemes..
Capitalism cannot work without violence. Fundamentally, "Profit" means value you never put into a product, service etc. When you profit, you derive "advantage" (the root-word of Profit) over the other persons in an exchange, who become (like most of us now) "dis-advantaged," while you use advantage(s) to get more---more profit, more advantage. That's where we are, only now "we" feel it and not just the Indians and other colonized minorities. ANCIENT LIGHTS dot o-r-g
I knew there had to be a name for what we have in this country. Prof. Chomsky continues to clear things up for me. A Polyarchy it is. Thank you. Still the best and what wonderful voice.
I see so many people nowadays that are almost on the right track, but guys.. we do not have capitalism! A speech by Ben Bernanke affects markets all over the world, how is that free-marked capitalism? Noam was once asked if he belived there could ever be peace with capitalism.. he said it has yet to be seen and that it would be a good idea to actually try it
@sausagedogheaven i love you lol you took the words right out of my mouth . these dumb fuks think their so smart with their class warfare etc. they dont know that they are the cause of the problem . its simple to me if i come up with a idea that makes the world better and i work hard to make my dream real then some lazy ass comes along and says hey you really prospering , then they say you got alot but i dont . then they say you should give me what you have i laugh at them and say fuck you dem!
man i can't stand this guy. he sucks! complete dipshit. it's amazing tht even education (i'm sure he's well read) cannot fully enlighten a person. this guy doesn't have a clue about life.
In order for the us to get back to the way it should be we need to get rid of all the non-english speaking mother fuckers from PR and Mexico and bring the white population back up to where it should be and also deport all the dumb niggers starting with president dumb fuck, hell why doesn't someone just invent a anti-nigger bomb that will kill all black people on the planet
Capitalism is the historic evolution of private property relationship of alienation, exploitation and suffering of humanity in a modality of commodity production for abstract process of capital accumulation and concentration . A system of wage slavery in an employment system of suppression and dehumanistion. We need to transcend this false limits to our creative cooperative energies for a moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity . Capitalism is evil
@Vita Property whether controlled by State or Corporations is tyranny. Capitalism State or Private is a process of oppression and exploitation of the working class.
@Vita By Capitalism I always include China which is a State Capitalist political tyranny , Cuba , North Korea.,. ex Soviet Union was a State Capitalist Empire which went bankrupt for variety of reasons and currently is essentially a Dictatorial State dominated Capitalist Economy.
@arzoyan i cant agree ... you are right when you say china is capitalist and when you say that the Soviet Union was capitalist( in some things) because in the Soviet Union there were markets but they were all controlled by the state. but to say cuba is capitalist is wrong ... there arent any kind of markets and its all controlled by the state.
@p220394 Cuba is part of the world capitalist market, trading with Europe and other countries, to say that the Cuban economy is controlled by the STATE is to confirm what I commented STATE CAPITALISM.
@arzoyan North Korea is the only controlled economy (which is the formal term) that i can think of and it is by all means no capitalistic system, ALL nations are dominated by wealthy elites
@blackcreekghost I use to agree with you, but, during Kim Jong-il's funeral, I saw several Mercedes Benz cars. Obviously, they are doing some trading with capitalistic countried. They are not completely closed.
@arzoyan i newer heard more stupid thing. I live in soviet union in capitalism government not producing anything, and prices aren't fixed. In soviet union that exactly what is was. Go to work you lazy bastard.
@arzoyan No one is saying that Capitalism + any political system is a good thing. You have to have both capitalism and democracy otherwise you will in some way give, to certain individuals (the rich/elite as you may say), the power of force and the power to infringe on others' rights which goes against everything that capitalism and individualism stand for. Tell me if you can find someone who truly believes in capitalism who doesn't also support democracy and liberty.
@VitaminsAndPiss Communism is just a stateless society where the workers have the power. Totatitarian states have claimed to be communistic and used generic communistic rhteroric but that has nothing to do with communism. In fact a state can't be communistic - stateless is part of the definition of communism. But if you want to associate communism with totalitarian states, go ahead. Communism is just a curse word now anyway and it doesn't mean anything.
@Bysheon except if you read Marx you'll see that what happened in those 'communist' states was part of the progression to Marx's mythical 'stateless' golden-age of Communism.
@arzoyan you're a dumbass. Capitalism is the best! history has proven that capitalism offers the most freedom to the masses. every other system has left the public w/ limited or no choice; oppression in it's purest definition.
@sebek23b I agree. "Greed" and "want" are basic elements of being human (or for that matter, being ALIVE). It's not possible to abolish these things as some economic systems wish to achieve for whatever reasons. We saw it in Soviet Russia. There was an underground black-market system of capitalism driven by "want", "greed", and "need" that wasn't being met by the current system. It's just human nature. It's capitalism that doesn't suppress these basic instincts.

@Vita Property whether controlled by State or Corporations is tyranny. Capitalism State or Private is a process of oppression and exploitation of the working class.

@arzoyan Your spot on. However, you can't just denonce one evil and ignore another evil. Communism is just as criminal as Capitalsim.

@arzoyan Yes, your spot on!

@arzoyan i cant agree ... you are right when you say china is capitalist and when you say that the Soviet Union was capitalist( in some things) because in the Soviet Union there were markets but they were all controlled by the state. but to say cuba is capitalist is wrong ... there arent any kind of markets and its all controlled by the state.
p220394 7 months ago

@Bysheon To bad it will never be what it is suppose to be. Humans are just that bad,
VitaminsAndPiss 1 year ago
@Bysheon except if you read Marx you'll see that what happened in those 'communist' states was part of the progression to Marx's mythical 'stateless' golden-age of Communism.

@arzoyan you're a dumbass. Capitalism is the best! history has proven that capitalism offers the most freedom to the masses. every other system has left the public w/ limited or no choice; oppression in it's purest definition.

@arzoyan so give me all your capital. Your are not greedy right, you don't want more? Explain me how you will change ppls mentality and instincts?
sebek23b 1 month ago
@sebek23b I agree. "Greed" and "want" are basic elements of being human (or for that matter, being ALIVE). It's not possible to abolish these things as some economic systems wish to achieve for whatever reasons. We saw it in Soviet Russia. There was an underground black-market system of capitalism driven by "want", "greed", and "need" that wasn't being met by the current system. It's just human nature. It's capitalism that doesn't suppress these basic instincts.
