  • Well done kellyoneill luke was simply the best

  • luke visits me every night.

  • I want to find the couple who disliked this, tear their shins off, then fill the void in their lower limbs with livestock.

  • Beautiful :) It's songs like this that remind us of the beauty of Ireland especially in these hard times. Like Kelly is an absolute legend. Keep on listening to these amazing songs and ignore the trash that this generation has manufactured.

  • Going back to roscommon in three months time, can't wait,it's a chance to educate my children in their history and i'm sure they will love it

  • love it....................

  • This is Luke at the top of any tree, this is a great song sung with such feeling by a great man. I* am sure there are millions of people who would be near to tears listening to Luke. Magic stuff.

  • best version he has sung. why did he have to die...

  • brilliant..one of my top faves from luke :) :)

  • Great version, there's something haunting in his last song though. 2 very different moods

  • A song that all can relate to sung by the gratest chanter as we say in Ireland, Luke RIP you are not forgotton

  • Yeah thanks for all your efforts kellyoneill, much appreciated. Trying to learn this song at the moment. Some of my other favourites of Luke's include The Lifeboat Mona, The Springhill Mining Disaster, Monto, Raglan Road, The Black Velvet Band, The Button Pusher, The Foggy Dew, wow the list grows so quickly! It's up to our generation to keep this music alive and you're doing a great job.

  • Impossibly good. Maith an fear Lukey.

  • He will rest in peace he never sang a bad tune

  • this was played by the lads at john scannells funeral on wedensday as the coffin was carried out the church so sad to say goodbye john

  • Such a beautiful song, John would have been so proud to have Luke singing him off. I can think of no better farewell.

    RIP

  • it doesnt get much better than this!

  • lovely singing by luke and harmonica by ciarán my two favourite dubliners

  • The Best Of Luke Kelly

  • Luke has such a striking voice full of emotion. This is a beautiful song. The live versions have an even more emotional feel if that possible.

  • RIP Luke

  • I really love this song.

  • My favourite song

  • Thanks for sending me this Mr.Delany!!

As usual, you know what I like1

  • ¡Este hombre es uno de todos los grandes cantantes populares del tiempo!

  • what a singer RIP, i love this and its my party piece after about 12 pints!

  • what a song and what a voice!!!

  • Dieses Lied berührt mein Herz. Niemand wird auch je nur annähernd so singen wie Luke Kelly.

  • Voice wise Luke is on a different plane to all other irish singers. We will never ever see his like again. I saw him a lot in his early career and I was always amazed at how easily he sang song others would later butcher. Many of the so called great songs by reputed great sonwriters were made great by Luke singing them. He was the talent which made these songs great. He could have sang anything and we would have listened. Even now I am in awe of his talent.

  • Yes One of a kind, Pure magic to hear, it still gives me goosebumps

  • 'damo' is shite...

    tries far 2 hard

  • mr damo dempseys version is up here with this

  • lol in his feckin dreams!!!!

  • kelly u think damos bad check out george murphy for rippin luke off

  • lol that had to be a joke, he was awful.

  • ye owl GEORGIE MURPHY They say he is lukes reincarnation now thats aloud of Bollox to me

  • You must be very young to say this as obviously you have never really listened to Luke singing. Listen to Luke sing then come back and apoligise for you silliness. either that or you are tone deaf.

  • Please can we stop the hate in lovely Ireland..............

  • Oh shush and let it be, let it be... HAH!!!

  • Pure magic.

  • isnt it strange --but i prefer the way he sung it at the end -- yes he truly knew it was nearly over -- God Bless Luke and you can tarry all ya like

  • he sang this on the late late show i think and wore a flat cap if i remember , did not look to good but the performance came from the heart , almost like he knew it was goodbye , what a man what a voice , we'll never see the likes of him again

  • yes you are rite....in fact its posted on this site, and brings a tear to my eye each time i watch it RIP LUKE

  • This was the last song he ever sang. Bring a tear to my eye.

  • I used to drive a bus in Dublin many many moons ago...he got on the bus I was driving one day and tipped his hat to me...thats my claim to fame. without doubt one of the greatest folk singers that ever lived!!!

  • That's just how he was. Luke was Luke - just a wonderful person - who lit up any stage (and made my knees weak when he stood in front of me!... and he knew it! ha)! I often wonder if he realised just HOW great he was! Kell' - have you seen my photos yet?? SA

  • it was and the last song he recorded was a song for ireland. also very appropriate.

  • Thank you kellyoneill for this

  • My pleasure mate :)

  • just curious... what would be your favourite luke kelly song?

  • Would have to be Shoals Of Herring.

    Yours?

  • umm hard too say, I like "the sun is burning"

yet "song for ireland" is also exceptional "first song I ever heard sung by luke kelly was "peggy gordon" and that's what made me a luke kelly fan but that's just because it's sung great but ultimately "song for ireland" and "the sun is burning" would be on par with each other in my opinion....

  • Did you try battle of the somme (freedom come all ye)Amazing song!!!

  • yeah I will now

  • listening to it now, it's beautiful. lol I was talking to an irish backpacker the other day he was amazed that I was australian and had heard of luke kelly

  • lol, im not Irish myself.

The Wild Rover is an australian song.

  • that's also a good song sung by luke kelly Where are you from?

  • Im from Liverpool, lived in dublin for 11 years, and moved to scotland a few months ago.

  • no shit? I was born in england but mum moved us to australia when I was 3 since she's australian herself

  • yeah although that was good I still like "song for ireland" and "the sun is burning" better

  • I Love Song For Ireland.

erm... how about The Unquiet Grave

    and Parcel Of Rogues?

    fantastic songs!

  • haven't heard them yet give me me a minute

  • parcel of rogues was good, The Unquiet Grave was pretty average I thought, I can't believe people like simon and garfunkles version of the the sun is burning better luke kellys is art thier's is blasphemy compared to luke version

  • "Such a parcel of rogues, in a nation"

    Luke ;-)

  • kellyoneill fair play to you. This is the best version of this song sung by Luke. His voice is so strong here God rest him.Would I be right in saying this was much earlier than the other two versions.

  • yep, you would be right,

a lot earlier than the other two.

  • no the best version has to be his last live performance! it is incredible, the diction, the passion, everything about it is outstanding. have a real listen to it first

  • i totally agree! I LOVE THIS SONG!!! G

  • one of his best!

  • Luke Kelly at his best! Superb!

  • what a fantastic song...sung by a fantastic singer.

    absolute quallity
