I have a long old school boat. Dagger Vortex. hand rolling is a breeze, i recently played around in a liquid logic playboat and had alot of trouble rolling it without a paddle. i need to try harder lol
When you found very easy to roll with paddle, note, what are you doing with your "strength" hand (on the side, you are rolling up). Hope, you can hold the paddle very easy, without strength. So leave the paddle, imagine, that palm of this hand is a paddle blade, and do the same as you do using the paddle. Second hand just stretch along the "strength" hand, and help with it.
The best way is to found anybody, who can roll and teach the roll. Man can see your mistakes, internet doesnt...
@joezbrna Well actually, we can see the mistakes if they are posted online but we can't fix/improve it. The best and only way to fix/improve a roll is with an instructor. That's my two cents :)
First of all, begin learning hand roll on the suitable kayak. Rather narrow, like slalom or old-school 3m (10feet) or more. When you have to lift your body over a big air barrel, its more difficult.
Second, you have to roll excellent with paddle. Excellent, it means very easy, without using a strength. Find, if you can roll yout kayak more easy screw style or sweep (it depends on kayak, e.g. more ait volume around knees in playboat makes very hard sweep style, you finish just across "barrel").

I have found it really hard to roll a playboat without a paddle! I could not get the drive. Any others though, i have no problem... Any pointers?
