WOW, Microsoft is no better. 365 will be a flop especially after they screwed all the small businesses that were using OLSB. Many small businesses, mine included moved their websites to legitimate web hosts. If your actually gullible enough to move your website to 365 don't be surprised when Microsoft discontinues it after 2 or 3 years and makes you move your website again. (NO SUPPORT OR TRANSITIONAL HELP PROVIDED). So you're basically left to rebuild your website & rankings all over again.
I LOVED IT! - Great Job Microsoft. The people who say it's highly unprofessional are just Microsoft haters. If Google made the same advertisement about Android vs Windows you fools would be giving it thumbs up and sharing everywhere.
Funniest part is how you dislike the "unprofessional" manner of Microsoft pointing out the horrible policy of Google but respect how Google can scan through your emails and exploit this info for a profit. Yeah, that is highly professional and trustworthy. *sigh*
When I get email from a Hotmail or Live account I delete that shit because I have no respect for the sender... who is either 12, delusional, or my grandma.
hotmail is about 10 times better than gmail... i never have a junk problem and the cloud sync with phone / desktop is perfect.... I don't get why fan boys push the anti MS thing so hard all the time.... product works perfect...
i dont think google can do that, How do they have enough staff to watch all the mail today. I think they can use algorithms to match patterns of characters. I do not love it with Microsoft's actions, because they should not denigrate their opponents , they should fight their opponents by way of innovation and business strategy
@thaccong So what did Apple do with the Mac vs PC commercials which were utter BS? They spread FUD against Microsoft... which is typical of Apple.... My PC isn't perfect, it has its problems, but it's not even 1% as bad as Apple made it look like, not to mention that Macs also have their problems!
Hotmail is a pathetic excuse for an email client. Regardless of whatever you think about Microsoft's criticism of Gmail's advertising scheme (which Gmail users consent by using their accounts), Hotmail isn't an alternative.
What's so bad about it? I use Hotmail as my main email provider and am more than satisfied with it. I also tried Gmail for a while but thought it was good but nothing special. It didn't make me feel like putting forth the effort to switch over.
Since this AD seems to be targeting the Business version of Gmail....did Microsoft check to see that the Enterprise/educational versions of Gmail DO NOT HAVE ADs? No, of course not.
Only the free consumer version of Gmail does this.
Gmail is free and has ads.... Office 365 doesn't have ads but you have to pay for it... I don't see the point of the video. I'll stick with free, and block the ads with Adblock!
Here is something I want you all to think about it:
How can Microsoft bans hacked Xbox 360 from using their online service? Is it because they are god who can predict and foresee that you hack, or is it because they "read" the information from your Xbox 360, like... Gmail?
The answer to this video is: EVERY COMPANY is going to DO something about the information you give out. And the question is: HOW they handle your private information? And I believe Google does the best job among them.
haha funny video, and I do get Microsoft's point, however I feel this video is made by a 12-year-old. Waiting for Google to respond in kind, it's gonna be epic!
This is not true at all. There are no people who are monitoring your incoming and outcoming emails. All they care about are the keywords, which are maintained by a computer. If it comes across a listed keyword, an advertisement is created. People have too much fantasy. And this ad is so sad. Gmail is user friendly and free, isn't that what people care about? That is why it took so long for them to come up with a spyware / adware blocker. Sell the problem, then sell the solution?
pssht... MS, sorry to ruin the black campaign but.. you know guys, MS has an MS-man for antispam, who reads your emails word by word and compares with known structures. And for others who know an automatic message forwarding system is not a human personally identifying you and reading your mail; it's really a well made commercial, eventhough it's a black one.
Service providers & governments are already logging everything we send & recieve - What's one more layer of snooping if it means free software instead of bloatware that needs to be updated at huge cost every year..?
@novatech1990 finally a positive, straightforward, comment. You understand this video is a funny little skit that has nothing to do with hotmail. Oh, and you are welcome, kind sir.
Google has done so much more for the user than Microsoft over their respective decades of shine. One overpriced outdated software and abused its monopolistic position, the other offered free innovative services that accompanied the birth of mass-market internet.
hotmail still had a 10mb inbox size limit for most regions when gmail came out with 1gb free accounts.
They eventually boosted the limit to 100mb and then raised it through the years.
Until that happened, you had to pay hotmail to get more inbox space and even then you got less than what gmail offered for free during the same period.
You know, if you have a gmail address, you accepted the terms that explicitly tell you about their ad policy. Raging about it is like going into someone's house and yelling at the owner when you find out he wants you to take off your shoes.
Well, actually most of the comments are quite funny. Bashing MS for making money as opposed to what? Google? Cheering and bashing multi-billion dollar companies is plain silly.
All companies give reasons to worry about, but really Google's perspective on privacy does worry me. What's next? Reading our documents or just grabbing our phone conversations?
Not even funny... Microsoft is SHIT! ... first forced us to buy crap Vista, now falling so low by creating anti-propaganda for the services that worked great all the time!
Sad to say that many biz website do not allow new registration with Hotmail and Yahoo. So far I have not come across or heard from friends that any website banning gmail...
So what if Hotmail offer 25Gig space, I have more spam mail more than ever
@eladstuff actually I tried both since I originally wanted an iPhone. Then I wanted an Android because it was Google based. Then I started looking at the Windows phones and I knew that it was the right one. And I told you the fact because I thought it kinda countered the idea that Microsoft hadn't done anything good in years, because without Microsoft there wouldn't even be Macs!
@DaPicsProductions My problem with Windows Phone 7 (correct me with I'm wrong) is that just like iPhone it's not really customizable, the UI is quite consistent and cannot be changed dramatically. What some people don't understand is that UI is a matter of taste, people like different things. Android gives me the ability to choose and to change almost anything on my device and make it personalized. I think you should double check your facts.
Steve Baller was too afraid of Google being even more global company worldwide that Google can easily engulf Microsoft. I mean seriously, who uses Internet Explorer?
@MovieMania126 Since its peak of popularity, its usage share has been declining in the face of renewed competition from other web browsers, and is currently 43.55% as of February 2011 so apparently 43% lol
At least GMail man goes to work. I heard MicrosoftMan is sleeping in over the hangover called Outlook.
I would use gmail over anything, it works, its easy, and the adds are small and kinda relevant. Also it's a server reading my mail, not a person, its not going to walk into my office and yell PORN?!
Uh oh, google buttlickers seem upset. This was the most retarded video ever, that only a company with as little taste as Microsoft could ever produce. But.......it's not like it isn't TRUE. Googles just as bad as Microsoft as far as I'm concerned. Except, they're actually worse, considering their desire to control almost ALL information on the Internet, and target ads. Oh the irony of Google ever calling ANYONE "Big Brother". Fuck Google and fuck MS, they're both tasteless monopolists.
Microsoft should just stick to pc operating systems, thats the only thing they come to being good at. They want to beat the comptition when they can't compete so they try destroy them in other ways. Pitiful, really. As far as this goes I bet even Google is also laughing at this poorly produced ad as well.
@miggiemartinez6 What about the Xbox 360? What about Skydrive? What about WP7? I think Microsoft is really starting to catch up with the competition. But its not like they were ever even behind.
@eladstuff Well then I guess you don't have Windows Phone 7, cause it is so much better than iPhone and Androids. Not to mention Windows 8.... Did you know the first Mac was a homebrew and illegal version of Windows?
@DaPicsProductions Did you try both iPhone and Android before deciding that Windows Phone 7 is better? I agree that Windows 8 looks good but I'll have to try it in order to believe it. Your fact really interesting but it has no whatsoever connection with what I said, don't get me wrong I agree that Microsoft did great things in the past but I think that right now it doesn't really contribute to the market.
@eladstuff well actually it is, and Android actually looks just like the iPhone while the Win P7 is the only phone with an interface that looks completely different than any other phone.
@DaPicsProductions You really don't get it, do you? WP7 is different but that's how it is, you can't change it. If you really would have used android you would have known that it's nothing the iPhone, it's really customizable.
@DaPicsProductions Microsoft should have done that and well (better) than the competition. Other than Xbox the competition mainly Google has themselves more together, Apple just arrived on the cloud. Google has so much more to offer. But even with Xbox the PS3 is better in a lot of ways. You don't have to pay Sony so that you can use the online applications on the PS3. Skype wasn't their idea, they just bought recently which was a good move. Google talk is a better alternative.
for Desktop PCs, that is the case. But that in itself is dying - The Web / Mobile Phones / Tablets etc are becoming way more popular. (Note why Apple is a bigger company than Microsoft atm).
And I never said Windows wasn't successful, I just said it isn't *good*. (That is from a technical point of view).
PS: I'm not an Apple fanboy, but they're the most convenient thing to throw in Microsoft's face.
Microsoft has no ideas! Microsoft does not innovate! Microsoft has nothing good and different to offer! So the only alternative is to mess with the competition. If you can not be better ... destroy them.
Google wins. Not only is it free plus free calling and texting straight from Gmail, I don't have to take time out of my life to tell Google what I like, they just know. And really, does an electronic mail system really give a damn about your lasagna recipe, or your cat, or whatever?!?! If they're going to advertise, they might as well show something you'll click, that is what Google is it's an advertising company, the leading one. And don't even try to act like you don't collect our data. Bing?
Um yea M$ taking another swipe at a fellow capitalist's quest for greed for your own? yeah so it invades privacy, but how bout you M$, you've been invading every square inch of our lives shoving Windows down our throats with UAC, registry logs, html logs, quality control management logs cookies now what does that say about your company policy, M$?
I think this is great. I have known about this for a long time, I have both hotmail and gmail accounts, use them both for different things and think I this is a scream. I bet most of you who hate it are just emabaressed about being exploited. Fact is Google's real product is you. Do a search on things like Google, Gmail and Android concerning privacy, virusues, hackers, trojans and security in their marketplace for Android. Not at all funny.
I think this is great. I have known about this for a long time, I have both hotmail and gmail accounts, use them both for different things and think I this is a scream. I bet most of you who hate it are just emabaressed about being exploited. Fact is Google's real product is you.
I prefer them reading my mail than dissapointing me with every changes they make (ejem, Windows Vista... and all the different versions of Live Messenger... and so on)
Sad attempt Microsoft. I almost feel embraced on ur behalf. Ur like the little kid in the playground that can't come up with a good comeback. Survival of the fittest. Lookin like apple and google are becoming the dominant species in the tech world. U had a good run Microsoft.
This is supposed to be professionally executed? It's poorly written, shot, acted, edited, finished. Just poor quality over all. Microsoft might want to re-evaluate their partnerships.
@GuitarFaris Indeed. Google doesn't care and neither do I. I actually DO use Gmail services through Thunderbird so this Ads issue doesn't even bother me. Thunderbird also supports custom folders from gmail so I'm well served. On the other hand, it has some problems dealing with hotmail's pop servers, whenever I need to get a msg from hotmail. Not to mention that all I need to do to edit a .doc file format is a google account, instead of having to buy a m$ office license. GOOGLE FTW!
I don't think the point is for Google to care. The ad is obviously targeted at the business sector, where security and privacy may be a strong selling point.
Any company who has a motto of "don't be evil" is not to be trusted. Google has cached every search since 1996 and is happy to hand over that info without warrant or cause to any government agency that asks for it.
The Microsoft equivalent of Gmail man spends most of his time off sick and for every real piece of mail delivered he also drops of 100 pieces of junkmail. Another painfully unfunny and misguided ad from the company whose marketing humor has always been embarrassing to behold.
@DaPicsProductions you don't think Microsoft is reading your email, they also read your email with the other the 5000 hackers that have hacked your account.
you know, even though i know we need to remember this is intended as a sharp elbow tatic from microsoft, i think it makes a good point about google unethical practice. I think Google need to respond by remedy this particular situation, also there is a lot of truth in if you dont want ppl to attack, than you should give them weakness to attack in the first place

Google has so much more to offer. But even with Xbox the PS3 is better in a lot of ways. You don't have to pay Sony so that you can use the online applications on the PS3. Skype wasn't their idea, they just bought recently which was a good move. Google talk is a better alternative.

@miggiemartinez6
windows... good? *cough *cough
but seriously, the last time Microsoft were 'good' was back in the 1980s.
But their competition has just been too uncoordinated to break their monopoly.
shocklateboy 7 months ago
@shocklateboy over 90% of the marketshare is windows
in other words, the human population that uses a computer is using Windows
zabrak999 7 months ago
@zabrak999
for Desktop PCs, that is the case. But that in itself is dying - The Web / Mobile Phones / Tablets etc are becoming way more popular. (Note why Apple is a bigger company than Microsoft atm).
And I never said Windows wasn't successful, I just said it isn't *good*. (That is from a technical point of view).
PS: I'm not an Apple fanboy, but they're the most convenient thing to throw in Microsoft's face.
shocklateboy 7 months ago
@shocklateboy lol what a stupid thing to say. people who hav ea cell phone also have a computer, dip shit
HURRR I THE LIGHT BULB INDUSTRY IS DYING BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE BUYING FLASH LIGHTS
Also shitty tablets aren't anywhere near as popular or relevant as a computer, and the people who own a tablet own a PC as well.

Because bing and Microsoft totally don't personalize advertising, no sir. They don't even solicit based on your location. Oh wait...

cpuspeed 7 months ago
@GuitarFaris Indeed. Google doesn't care and neither do I. I actually DO use Gmail services through Thunderbird so this Ads issue doesn't even bother me. Thunderbird also supports custom folders from gmail so I'm well served. On the other hand, it has some problems dealing with hotmail's pop servers, whenever I need to get a msg from hotmail. Not to mention that all I need to do to edit a .doc file format is a google account, instead of having to buy a m$ office license. GOOGLE FTW!

If:
► I send this video by Gmail, does the correlated Ads will be about Hotmail?
makkil 7 months ago
i think its entertaining. i dont care about the meaning. i neither use gmail nore office, but i liked this ad :)
B4stiB 7 months ago
I don't think the point is for Google to care. The ad is obviously targeted at the business sector, where security and privacy may be a strong selling point.

Any company who has a motto of "don't be evil" is not to be trusted. Google has cached every search since 1996 and is happy to hand over that info without warrant or cause to any government agency that asks for it.

HasanSIM14 7 months ago
The Microsoft equivalent of Gmail man spends most of his time off sick and for every real piece of mail delivered he also drops of 100 pieces of junkmail. Another painfully unfunny and misguided ad from the company whose marketing humor has always been embarrassing to behold.

@DaPicsProductions you don't think Microsoft is reading your email, they also read your email with the other the 5000 hackers that have hacked your account.
ziggifish 7 months ago
you know, even though i know we need to remember this is intended as a sharp elbow tatic from microsoft, i think it makes a good point about google unethical practice. I think Google need to respond by remedy this particular situation, also there is a lot of truth in if you dont want ppl to attack, than you should give them weakness to attack in the first place
