it was a case that the Weka Pass Railway General Manager was out side the Weka Pass Shed when 701 went thru and the LE on 701 just happened to see him. The Weka Pass GM is an ex Kiwirail LE.

No the Tranz Coastal is the Christchurch - Picton passenger train that runs daily. This video was of the train returning to Christchurch from Picton
it all depends on the size of the train there have been times when the Tranz Coastal has been 8 cars and two locos

wow i thought it was usually longer? that about the same length as the Overlander in the north island, great vid anyway!! 5* :)
