@1234buckeyefan As a matter of fact, calcium is one of the important ions for the contraction of muscles, however if you want to grow your pee pee, I would not recommend eating pure calcium, because it will destroy the musoca of your throat and oesophagus!
If you have a balloon, filled with hydrogen, the "plop" will be a nice "boom". If you mix two parts hydrogen with one part of oxygen and you give it some nergy (e.g. a lighter, a candle, an electric discharge...), you better don't stend next to it and you better protect your ears, 'cos that's gonna be a very loud and hot "boom".
why when you put water in a "eprouvette (sorry can't get the english word)"put in on the calcium piece, then it react. After you take a flame put it close to your "eprouvette" and it makes a "POP" why????
but i thought that...alkali?alkaline metals exploded in even the tiniest presence of water...like water vapor...which is in air...so how could u just drop it in?????????????
@XLuxrayX - the alkalies do react with water. but if you put lithium in water (the first on the list) it will most likely just buzz on top of the water. however cesium (the last legal alkali) will explode on contact to water. it also depends on size
@hitanyk3yt0c0ntinu3 try hydrochloric acid and zing aluminum etc. not copper though. but i hate the acids so try sodium hydroxide and aluminum or try any other metal except gold. :)
can this grow my pee pee?

is this pure calcium
?

@MrFlamez18 Sry for the delay in answering... I wasn't online for a long time....
To answer your question: Yes, it is pure calcium.

@isajen1 Calcium in water:
Ca --> Ca2+ + 2e-
2 H2O + 2e- --> H2 + 2OH-
The hydrogen leaves the test tube pretty fast. If you put a flame to the test tube's opening, it reacts with the oxygen from the air:
H2 + 1/2 O2 --> H2O
That reaction makes "plop", if there is only a bit hydrogen.

@hitanyk3yt0c0ntinu3
thx. :)
but what i really wanted to know is why the hydrogen is reaction with the flame...

would the water become more acidic or alkaline after the whole process is done?
strider1207 2 years ago
the solution becomes more alkaline.
ca + 2h2o = ca(oh)2 + h2

this is an alkiline metal like Beryllium, calcium ,and so on
Alkili metals are Lithium, sodium,potassium,rhubidium,cesium
and extremelly rare francium
spotlightman1234 2 years ago
they have different types of reactions, calcium is one of the more mildly reactions

@XLuxrayX alkaline metals do, but alkaline earth metals dont react as vigorously

@XLuxrayX Explosion depends on if the metal gets hot enough that it melts and breaks up into pieces. Alkaline earth metals have a high melting point.

trap the hydrogen and then get pure oxygen and make water!
pikachuthesquirtle 2 years ago
I tried it with a balloon, but the hydrogen pressure wasn't enough to make it a big one. Even magnesium and lithium couldn't make it :(

is the water getting cloudy cos Ca(OH)2 formed is insoluble?
daisy1250 3 years ago
Yup, that's exactly the reason. Sorry for answering that late. I've been inactive for a long while.
hitanyk3yt0c0ntinu3 3 years ago
its ok. i haven't replied to some other people myself!!
but Ca(OH)2 is a strong alkali like KOH and NaOH. it dissociates to become ions. how come it so insoluble?
daisy1250 3 years ago
Calcium hydroxide is not a strong alkali. There is only 1.7g soluble in 1l of water. So you mostly have an emulsion of Calcium hydroxide in water.
Potassium hydroxide on the other hand lets you solve more than 1kg in 1l of water, which would rather be a solution of water in KOH....
