  • are those your babies brass knuckles hanging from your neck.

  • Parts list?

  • @multiHappyHacker Covered that pretty well in the first video.

  • I'm subbin!!! You've done this a few times. I think I found my goto guy! Ive NEVER watched a long vid... that said, what happened between 12:08 and 12:09? I see you removed everything from the vice, the pins were installed opposite in the block after... I like that idea with the loctight at the gas block. Just did my bros, gonna have to take it apart and set the threads and loctite the block. Ahhh, forgot a piece, who needs directions! Where'ld u get the wrench? Its NICE! Faved.

    D

  • @dnahoghunter I had to take it out and tap the gas tube roll pin a hair more. The handguards were a tight fit and the pin was sticking out a little too much on one side. I think I got the wrench from Brownell's, it's a DPMS armorer's tool.

  • Can you make a list of parts that you will need to make this so i dont have to look through the vid and find things that look like it , "not for me im only 14 :P for the other people"

  • very well done series

  • How do you cheack head space when building an upper like this? Or do you even need to?

  • @eatasammich I usually don't bother but you can remove the ejector from your bolt and make sure it goes into battery (rotates to engage the locking lugs) on the GO gage and doesn't go on the NO-GO gage.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision about how much did this setup cost and would it be good for short to mid range hunting

  • @oya691 About $1100 total without optics. It would be good for coyotes or slightly larger animals at mid range. It could take deer at shorter ranges with proper bullet selection.

  • Do you have a recommendation of the best place to by the kits from? Also a list of parts that you need that don't come with them. I want to do a first build AR10 308, but the web sites are many and confusing so far as what to order.

    Good Vid by the way

  • @stalwartman I've never dealt with AR-10s. I know on them it makes a difference what manufacturer's receivers you are using. I don't have much info for you I'm afraid, sorry.

  • you did know the gas block is the hottest part around the barrel right? so why use locktite blue....even red comes off with low heat? why use any at all?

  • @tundraotto After running 1000 rounds through this rifle (mostly rapid fire) I tried to take the gas block off a couple days ago to swap onto another rifle and it wouldn't budge. It does the job. When you heat LocTite it just breaks down into a powder, it doesn't re-liquify. I put quite a bit of torque on the gas block but it didn't even try to rotate out of position.

  • Nice build, Thinking of building my own, just a basic AR-15 nothing fancy, got it around 980 (less with out the tool kit) in the "on paper" phase. I think I'm missing a pin though, less the gas tube comes with it, not sure. But, whats a rough time to put it together? about an hour?

  • @toboe399 For your first build probably an hour and a half or so. Some gas tubes come with the pin, sometimes the gas blocks do. You can get the pins seperately from most places that sell AR parts.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision wow, putting a firearm together takes less time than my air rifle, that takes 3 hours to reassemble. but I plan on getting a barrel with the A2 gasblock on it

  • Good video man. Definitely too cold for a conservative barrel break in. 1 shot clean times 10 you wouldn't be ab

  • one of the best videos i seen very nice and ty for making a easy to understand video how to build a ar 15 hope to c more videos soon thanks again

  • i like how he says thus is going to be an adventure cuz hes never delt with that type of hand guard before hahahahaha Classic! 3:20

  • Nice rifle. I just finished building one. I have a small problem with mine though, for some reason the bolt catch isn't doing its job after the final shot. Any advice?

  • @andr3w0312 What kind of magazines are you using? Nine times out of ten that's the problem. You could also have a gas problem. Make sure your gas block is lined up correctly and tight. If none of that helps maybe try a different kind of ammo. I've had trouble with PMC 55 gr fmj in this rifle and another one as well. The rifle may also just need to be broken in by shooting it.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision I'm using Gi style mags, federal 55 gr. FMJs. Ive also shot a few surplus 5.56 out of it. But ive only put about 120 rounds down range with it. Enough to "break-in" the barrel and get a zero. So it could be that I need to shoot it some more. Thanks for the advice, and i appreciate you taking the time to answer.

  • @andr3w0312 I'd say your mags are probably not the issue then. Just to be sure you can insert an empty mag into the mag well and pull the charging handle rearward. It should lock back. I'd check the areas I suggested and then just shoot it a little more. If the problem doesn't clear up in another 100 rounds or so let me know and we'll see what we can figure out.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Awesome, thanks.

  • Thanks so much.....Great build!

  • i hate picking my brass out of snow after it melts down in there lol

  • Great video mate. great detail

  • How much did that one cost to build if you buy the individual parts instead of just stock?

  • @dustbunny252 I spent about $1100 without optics. I didn't use any cheap parts either.

  • was the gas tube always bent?

  • @StunnedMutha Yeah that's standard

  • @StunnedMutha lol

  • @ARBuilder1776 haha, sorry, i come from a land of over-priced guns and strict weapon regulations ;)

  • Nice build ...how much does she weigh?

  • @sshukri0 A hair over 8 pounds with the Burris AR 332 mounted. That's according to my bathroom scale.

  • Does the tapered side of the crush washer face the receiver or the flash hider? I'll hopefully be building mine this weekend.

  • @MahaloMoFo I always put the tapered in against the barrel and the flared out end toward the muzzle device. Pretty sure that's right.

  • nice trigger control

  • when the guy that did my ar he told me if i used grease it hade to be litm ? what brand bcg , lower an upper mines the psa upper?lower an a yankee hg

  • @curtispa I've used everything from high temp anti sieze to wheel bearing grease. I do prefer white lithium which is what I used here. The BCG is a RRA I think, soon to be replaced with a Fail Zero nickel boron coated model. The upper is a GTS billet and the Lower is a Surplus Arms & Ammo (Spike's Tactical).

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision wow u got some good stuff the next ar i make next yr is gonna be a spikes lower as well an yhm hg again all after i get the tools an stuff to do it um jobless as of now again RRA rock river arms ? dont u like that bcg ? are u looken to sell it

  • @curtispa It's a Rock River from what I was told. I'm not sure that's true, the machine work doesn't seem to be up to RRA standards. It's good, just a little rough. I like it, but my buddy said he would take it for his Grendel so he can put the BCG back in his 6.8 SPC.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision ya i thought it was a lil rough when where done with the gun an u charged it i have a vid up now of my ak an the new ar but my cam sucks if u want 2 watch it there short vids

  • The very first time I installed a barrel on my AR15 I had my friend hold the upper and barrel and I used vice grips on it, It actually worked perfect.

  • this monkey cant wait to build one. lol!

  • @willwood487 I know man, it's a proud accomplishment when you build your first AR-15. Almost as good as losing your virginity. LOL

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision I doing all my home work now so when I get to do it I will be well armed in the knowledge dept.

  • Great mini-series! I learned quite a bit as far as the different components and how they fit. Of course, not everything was covered, but the rest shouldn't be rocket science. It's funny how there seems to be an aftermarket option for even the most insignificant of parts.

  • wait you forgot the bullet button, oh yeah you don't live in the homo state of Cali like me.

  • @grendelsniper LOL good ol' Communist Republic of California.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision That barrel looks erect.

  • great build I am ready to see some shooting video side by side against the grendel, not long range just grouping

  • Awsome pretty easy set up great stuff

  • Good job man. That was cool

  • Awesome video series man. Good timing too. I'm about to be picking up the Larue 7.0 handguard.

  • @MahaloMoFo Sweet. I used the 12.0 here. Lucked out and picked them at the KC show for $200! Saved 100 over Bravo Comany's price.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Damn good deal for a 12" Larue rail. I have a barrel, upper, and gas tube from Bravo Co coming in on Tuesday. Just need the rail, gas block, and going to try one of those Titan compensators. Gonna hit the gun show in Ft Worth tomorrow. Hopefully I can find something.

  • Now I see how it's done, Thanks

  • @skipwadoo Glad to help. Thanks for watching!

  • It took me 1 hour to get my muzzle brake straight and I had to use all these different washers and mix and match to find out

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Actually it might have taken me 2 hours, seriously. They gave me all these washers of different sizes and it was like a puzzle trying to figure out the right combo.

  • I can't wait to find out the accuracy of that barrel, I hope you can hit dimes with it. Then you can build me one.

  • @semiautoriflelover I put a 3X Burris AR-332 on it. The dot in the would cover a half dozen dimes at 100 yards I think. I might slide one of my old benchrest scopes on it though to really test it out.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision I gots to know if this rig can pull 3/4" at 100.

  • @semiautoriflelover Just inspecting the bore after I cleaned it on arrival I'd say it will get close with some good handloads. I'll put a good scope on it and find out for you. Probably be next weekend before I do, I'm putting a rifle together for a buddy tomorrow.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Is it hard to install the free float tube DCM style?

  • @semiautoriflelover I've never messed with them but I'm pretty sure they're a straight forward operation.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision I'll just send them to you. lol. I need to buy a vice because my Uncle stole the one I had at my Grandmas. I have no clue why because he is part homo and can't use tools.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Did you ever think about trying one of those Spikes tactical nickel boron coated bolt and carriers? My trigger is from them and wow it is so smooth and slick almost feels like a turtles ass.

  • @semiautoriflelover I planned to use the Fail Zero coated carrier in this but the chrome one was cheap at the gunshow so I'm using it for now. I'll be orering the better one later on down the road.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision Does the chrome one clean up nice and easy?

  • @semiautoriflelover Yeah, not as easy as the Young Mfg that's in the Grendel which has a smoother finish but it's still easy. Plus it makes it really easy to see the carbon buildup.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision have you ever had a jam in an AR15 in .223/5.56?

  • @semiautoriflelover Only due to faulty mags. I've ran 500 rounds through a rifle without cleaning or lubricating without a single jam. Bad mags are almost always the problem in my experience. P mags are great if you can have them.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision I can only have 20 round GI mags or 30 round GI mags but I've never had a problem with any of them. One time I used wolf shit ammo and had 2 or 3 jams but then threw out that ammo, it was getting stuck in chamber. That was it.

  • this is a very cool series of videos dude. i never thought building an ar was so simple

  • @madkoster Yeah man, I was always a little intimidated by it until I watched my first build video and thought wow, that's almost stupid simple.

  • great videos learned alot thanks!!

  • Good Job... Looks like it's gonna be a nice shooter... Cheers.

  • what kind of muzzle brake/flash hide is that?

  • @SGTatARMS4 It's a Yankee Hill Phantom muzzle brake. They make a flash hider that looks really similar. It seems to be an effective design so far, the rifle doesn't jump around much during rapid fire.

  • Thanks so much for these building tutorials. Thanks for sharing and posting.

  • @firearms1894 If I help one person get the AR of their dreams that's enough for me. Thanks for watching.

  • This is an awesome series man, i really am looking forward to the rest of the parts, have you received all the parts and now your just assembling the rifle? Great stuff!

  • @markstevenbuisness I bought all the parts at the gunshow last weekend except for the barrel. I got my optics in the other day so it's all complete now. Haven't got to get it on the bench and see how it shoots yet.

  • @MrSurgicalPrecision That is awesome, it seems like this is the simplest platform to build by yourself? I cannot wait for you to go out and shoot at something accurately to test the accuracy. Once again one if my favorite channels never lets me down! :)

  • @markstevenbuisness Yeah it's pretty easy, Savage rifles are pretty simple too. I'll do a video on that when the barrel is shot out of my 6.5-284.

  • this is awesome man, thanks for making this

  • @MrGunsplosion101 Thanks man, stay tuned. As I learn new thing I'll pass them along to you guys.
