Both my Great Great Grandpa Patterson-47th Tennessee Infantry,CSA and Great Great Grandpa Jordan-36th Alabama Infantry,CSA served under the Bonnie Blue Flag!!
Bigger fan of the Texas Burnet Flag being flown underneath the current Texas Flag, ignoring the US flag altogether from the flag pole. Yellow would stand out better from a distance, showing it to be a Lone Star Flag. Mixed feelings about Texas having sold sooooo much of it's land to pay off it's debts when it was originally a Republic, though there's a certain undeniable charm to the current state's shape, as long as everyone's clear about ABSOLUTELY NEVER AGAIN will we part with OUR Texas land!
No fan of the Confederate Flag! Have mixed feelings about the current Texas flag 'cause it's a little too red, white, & blue for me. REALISTICALLY we'd be a socialist republic to appease enough of the majority of Texans to go for Independence w/us. We'd insist that we were emphatically/dogmatically Christian to avoid future generations of ACLU types & would have "In Christ Jesus we trust" on our currency. Confederate Flag still isn't a Texas Sovereignty flag, whatever argument anyone would have!
When I was young and studying history in school, I often wondered how it was possible that Northern and Southern citizens of this great nation could have ever have taken up arms against each other......
Looking at our political state today, I no longer find it a mystery.
Firing on Fort Sumter no longer seems unreasonable...
Slavery is wrong, so is violence. These are facts. Most of the people from the south did not fight for slavery or the "white man"'s reign. No they fought for self determination and less governmental influence, a more decentralized nation where the the independent state had the final word on most matters(sadly also on slavery). Many was actually in favor of cancel the slavery of another man or human being. If only the elite in the south would had cancel the slavery in time... Long live the south!
That's exactly right. The Texas, Mississippi, Georiga, and South Carolina declarations of secession talk at length about self determination, less governmental influence, a more decentralized nation, and the cancellation of slavery.
No, wait---no they don't. They instead cite "slave" and "slavery" 82 separate times and say "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery---the greatest material interest of the world."
Read wikipedia Confederate States of America, and you will see that some people suggested that black people could win their freedom if they enrolled: "In the spring of 1865, the Confederate Congress, influenced by the public support by General Lee, approved the recruitment of black infantry units. Contrary to Lee’s and Davis’s recommendations, the Congress refused “to guarantee the freedom of black volunteers.” No more than two hundred black troops were ever raised.[105]"
Not to say that all the people from the Confederation was God's children as many people did support slavery(sadly). Anyway for a civil war buff this was an exiting time(to read about and to live in) :o) My own view is that all mankind is equal no matter what race or colour. But that does not prevent me from appreciating the god music of the South :o)
American English: color. British English: Colour. The same goes for the word armor(American spelling)/armour(British spelling), both are correct and acceptable. I wish you a a nice day :o)

Quaint song. The Southern States of the USA appear to have a reputation for questionable educational standards, poor dental, incest, underage marriages and inflated subscription charges for the Ku Klux Klan, but what the hell, they have produced/written some great songs!
@RonPaulHatesBlacks i love america, i just hate our government. btw, i have seen you comment on many videos. your a racist piece of shit. your just as bad as the dumb fucks in the klan. america would be better off if people like you would return to africa.

@veekeeper25 If the Confederacy rises again myself and many other Americans who love this country will be more than willing to take up arms against the traitors. The Union Forever
@2TRanch I wish that is what he was saying, I would rather fight along side my southern countrymen than to fight against them, but if they want to destroy this country then they need to be fought
@Lambchop08 that is what i am trying to say i am not good at wording things and just to tell you a am a she not a he my username should give you a hint
@veekeeper25@veekeeper25 If the Confederacy rises again myself and many other Americans who love this country will be more than willing to take up arms against the traitors. The Union Forever
@veekeeper25 I believe what you are saying is all the states both North and South will fight for their Home State's Sovereignty to govern itself without the oppressive recent Legislation of Big Government in Washington making the decisions to force their totalitarian goals upon us. The symbol of the Bonnie Blue is to signify States Rights and the battle will be fought at the polls and courts. PROVIDED, They do not make the same mistake as Lincoln did when he massed 70,000 troops on the Potomac
@2TRanch Each individual state governing itself and just how does that differ from what we have now? If you think a politician at the state level is any different then those at the Federal level you are in a dream world. You will get the same thing just on a smaller scale. The real problem with this country is the wealthy or corporate world run it not the politician. It has always been that way since 1776. Goggle "war is a racket" see what I mean. One of the disadvantages of capitalism.
It will differ in the fact that if you don't like the laws in your state, you can move and still call yourself a citizen of the nation the states are in.
@TheBoberton Again I ask how does that differ from what we have now? I am totally confused with your statement. When the Confederacy was formed it still had a federal government and a state government. If you moved from one state to another you were still dealing with the same fed government. Just what is the difference the wealthy of any nation or state run the country and their interest is in making money they don't give a dam about you and what you want. Why do you think we fight wars
It differs, once again since you seem to not understand, in that the "federal government" would not be "running the show" as it were. The states would be their own individual cooperating nation. The federal government would be there to unite the states into the union the founding fathers wanted. It would be there to settle disputes, command armies in times of war, and (as I said just now) hold the states together.
@TheBoberton I understand fully what you are trying to say but it seems the Confederacy failed in the very concept you describe. Some States actually threaten to pull out of the Confederacy over disagreements with their President. Taxes were ignored and the draft system was thorn in the side of most states. In fact from my view point the Confederacy was viewed as being no better than the Union when it came to state rights. Just can't please some people I guess when they are looking for utopia.
@686204 You need to remember that the Confederacy was born from war. They had not had the time to put ANYTHING in place. From the secession to the end of the war, that was all they could do.
The union however, had had EIGHTY YEARS to set itself up.
@TheBoberton No if state rights takes priority over a central type government like the Confederacy or the Union then you are always going to have disagreements. The thing is instead of going to war to resolve them you are suppose to use the true democratic process available. Even then when the final results are in someone is not going to be happy with it. However, that is democracy you can't please everyone within a state or within the country as a whole.
@TheBoberton The most powerful man on earth Maybe there are some that would disagree with you. Even so you and everyone that votes has the power to remove him from office. The federal government may not end a disagreement on its own but we have a Judaical system that can make decisions on disputes between a state and the Federal Government. The people also have the power to vote out any politician it feels is not working on their behalf.
@TheBoberton My point was that government (s) in a democratic/capitalistic country are not the ones we have to watch. It is Corporate America and their lobbyists who manipulate governments be they State or Federal. I don't think your utopia of Sovereign states would turn out any better they are all run by Politicians who cater to the wealthy not the general public like us. But everyone is intitled to their own dream world so dream on.
@TheBoberton Also we have (freedom of the Press) the media newspapers TV etc that can make it rough on a government that is not acting on behalf of the people. Politics is politics it's up to the people to keep them in line not Corporate America and their lobbyists! In my opinion that is the present problem with our Country we've let money and greed influence the decision making of our government Both Federal and State.
@FGalaxie Your puctuation is wrong. Should be :"____take the rest of the world. Model America."
At least the pre-0bama America. In American lies, theft, enslavement are still thought of as BAD THINGS. Which is why our productivity tends toward the highest in the world.
@FGalaxie Agreed, American Democrats in most other industrialized nations would be considered center-right. Republicans are just off the charts right, like the NSDAP.
here's to our Confederacy strong we are and brave, like patiots of old we'll fight our heritage to save, and rather than submit to shame to die we would prefer so cheer for the Bonne Blue flag that's gained the eleventh star
and here's to brave Virginia the Old Dominion state, with the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate, impelled by her example now other states prepare to raise on high the Bonnie Blue flag which bares a single star.
We are a band of brothers and native to the soil, fighting for our property with treasure blood and toil, but now with Northern treachary attempts our rights to mar, we hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag that bares a single star.
Hurrah Hurrah for Southern Rights Hurrah, Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue flag that bares a single star.
Funny. You would be the ones who tried to destroy the Constitutional Republic. And you're still trying to do it, in fact, by undermining Congress' ability to "lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Excises, and Imposts... to provide for the common Defence and the general Welfare of the United States."
The principle, on which the war was waged by the North, was simply this: That men may rightfully be compelled to submit to, and support, a government that they do not want; and that resistance, on their part makes them traitors and criminals.
What then , is implied in a government's resting on consent?
So it's taboo for Northerners to give any credit to the "racist, slave-driving South" and it's taboo for a Southerners to give credit to "racism , and un-patriotic secessionism"
It's all just the account written by the victors, the Union. The U.S.A.
I would hope the E.U. does not become too serious and that England and the U.K. retain sovereignty while at the same time maintaining a sensible level of cooperation with your (not distant) neighbours.
as an Englishman, with a great interest in the A.Civil War, I find that so many Americans North and South in origin have difficulty in discussing it,
replying things like "well it happened a long time ago" or "its just history" or basically no reply at all.
Is talking about it somehow taboo for the bulk of Americans.
Your civil war has very, very important reflections here for the possible creation of a US of Europe, in particular states rights, sensible comments only please
As a 59 year old Southern, who grew up with the Daughters of the Confederacy in my elementary school, we were proud to be of Confederate heritage. Then came along the oppressive federal government again, teaching our children it is wrong to proud of the South, the term Dixie can't be used it is politically incorrect. My High School mascot was a Rebel. We thought it appropriate , the school was built at the foot of Missionary Ridge and about 10 miles from the Chickamauga Battlefield.
So nice to hear about the life of a white man in the south. That bad federal government forcing us to implement segregation, keeping the black man from having the vote and of course to keep everything under control well all that was needed was the KKK. Can't you understand that you are proud of something that was wrong. Read the southern states declarations of secession man it was all about slavery. That is something to be proud of and I suppose you call yourself a christian too.
No, I call myself a Constitutionalist. The states entered into a compact and created the federation. The Constitution limits the federal government's authority. States are free, sovereign and independent countries that formed a Union for self-defense. I don't condone slavery or racism in any way, that was a different era. I am a Cherokee Indian, do you want to talk about racism? We federated, we didn't nationalize.
Nope being a North American aboriginal I would imagine you have experienced racism first hand. However, If your definition is right and I say if, what is the purpose in having a Federal Government in the first place? And after seceding from one Federal union why form another the CSA? You may not condone slavery or racism but it existed in the south for a long time. Being proud of such a past is like being German and saying you were proud of being a Nazi in the 30's and 40's.
" Distinct States, amalgamated into one as to their foreign concerns, but single and independent as to their administration, regularly organized with a legislature and governor resting on the choice of the people and enlightened by a free press, can never be so fascinated by the arts of one man as to submit voluntarily to his usurpation. Nor can they be constrained to it by any force he can possess".
That statement leaves it wide open for interpretation on where the Federal government fits in. Is there a statement on how the amalgamation of the states is suppose to work with the Federal level. In my opinion while specific on independent state rights it loses it direction on what can and should be done under amalgamation should the state disagree with the federal authority or vise versa. Where does it say you can opt out of the Union if you feel the Federal authority is wrong.
"It is a fatal heresy to suppose that either our State governments are superior to the Federal or the Federal to the States. The people, to whom all authority belongs, have divided the powers of government into two distinct departments, the leading characters of which are foreign and domestic; and they have appointed for each a distinct set of functionaries. These they have made coordinate, checking and balancing each other like the three cardinal departments in the individual States."
The Bonnie Blue Flag with the Texas written in it has been in existence since the Republic of Texas. It didn't just miracle itself into existence to annoy you I assure you.
I hate how the bonnie blue flag has been adsorbed as a confederate flag when actually it's the national flag of the Republic of West Florida... It's attention is drawn from the fact that Republic of West Florida had the right to found their own nation (Like the Republic of Texas) but they were annexed by the United States unjustly...
Noting this injustice someone(name alludes me) penned this song based on rights, and va la, now we have bonnie blues with "texas" written on them :|
iamagiantseaturd, while you're technically correct, the flag is also a symbol of freedom from oppressive government. To hoist the bonnie blue flag is freedom. That was what secession was all about. It's only natural the seceeding states would hoist that before banding together and making a new flag for the Confederacy.
ok may i ask two things first why the hell are people talking about politics in a southern anthem song and second socialism sucks mostly cause people get coruptted faster but also the rich are rich cause they are smart enough to do so, and trying to tell the rich they can't have all thier money is dumb then nobody wants to work. Almost nobody wants to work for the good of others. Greed is a least a good motivator
that may sound a little wired i just havent come up with how i would work out the hole socialist part just i would like to see a country with out power crazy rich people getting their way thats stupid and dumb and the government letting them everyone should have a say thats what a democracy is all about....and i support anything that would help the poor and middle class citizens i want a world where people diden't have to worry about money where people just worked for the benifit of the country
see it socialist can't be a flat out state i m just a little more radical you would say then a democrat i belive in socialist and democracy ideas which work together its hard to explan but it will fix alot....like no more out of countrol rich people everyone would be equal in every way not by reciveing the same pay but it depends on how much people work but nothing would be too expensive to anyone....my second concerion would be the eveiorment and how to stop global warming and save planet Earth
yea ok so your saying that you would own do your job if you get paid enough money thats plain dumb thats whats worng with society people only do the jobs which pays them they care about merterislic things....we all do but under my plan of socilism all that changes no more dumb celbs getting there way no more big time ceos controlling the government just plain old citizens getting all benifits and doing the jobs they want with out the worry of money capitalism failed srry but its our turn....
so what you're gonna let a socialist leader take hold???
Capitalism at times isn't fair but neither is socialism, there needs to be a balance not a flat out socialist state...Socialism is a great idea but key world is IDEA, Every time it's been put into practice it's been a tool for use of oppression whether or not the person who chose it meant for it too be, if you let socialism take control who's too stop communism, call it what you want but Obama's "Change" is alot like Stalin's Propaganda
@Alexreb92 You can not even compare Stalin to Obama.Stalin did not practice socialist ideals. He was a dictator more than anything.Stalin murdered his own people, put them in interment camps, and ran the country to poverty, only increasing the strength of its arms.Obama has done none of these. You want to see a preexisting version of what Obama is trying to achieve?Try Sweden. ACTUAL quasi-socialism.You're a typical American idiot; fearing the word socialism without actually knowing its true meaning
Stalin and his USSR created COMMUNISM. Communism and Socialism are quite different. One believes in the Government owning the means of Production (Socialism) and the other is a violent revolution by the working class of the Bourgeiouse, and then a classless society under a dictator (Communism.)
Socialism does not need a dictator to work. Communism does. Socialism is not a tool of oppression. Communism is.
Karl Marx created communism decades before Stalin was even born! And his ideology was one of no government and one respecting individual rights, liberty, and life. He created an ideology where the working peoples of the work could unite in a common goal to ensure their prosperity and sustenance through their labour.
Stalin, and others, simply contorted it to a dictatorial fascist view.
@Alexreb92 in defense of Obama, he is trying, but congress is being uncooperative and constantly trying to change his bills to reflect undividual, state, and partisan interests. i do agree, however, that the government is too powerful. When Texas secedes, i hope it will act as South Carolina did, and the rest of dixie will follow
Good theory. Nothing much greater than a theory, though.
I'm also a socialistic individual. But I understand that the nature of humanity makes it impossible for socialism to be instated throughout the world. Therefore, government must be involved, and it must administer a limited amount of socialism.
We see socialism is Social Security, public schooling, Medicare, Medicaid, and the fire department. As long as people are alive and well, capitalism can do most of the rest.
@WorldDebater lol your a retard, this has been tried before. it's a WONDERFUL idea, I agree. I would love to see socialism (that's the correct spelling my friend) work, I really really would. but it won't and you know why? because we're human, and there's always gonna be those few assholes who gotta take advantage of the system, those that work for themselves and don't worry who the fuck they screw over. and american's are already bad about that, mark my words and hear them for truth. the road o
@WorldDebater nation is on is one where we will consume ourselves. and I'm pretty sure it's already to late to reverse this. nothing left to do be see my words become reality. someday you make think back to my post and cry.
@WorldDebater anyone has the right to the benefits of their industry. you have the right to your own property. envy gets you nowhere. what is the sum of good government? to restrain men from injuring one another but leaving them otherwise free to pursue their own industry and not taking away from them the bread that labor has earned. in a free market no one can take a dollar from you unless you do so freely, this is what we call free exchange. socialism is a system of forced exchange.
yea some liberals aren't that good but some are like JFK and Obama did not get elected just because of his color many people voted for him because of who he is, and what he could do for the country....but once he trys to fix things for the country people cry out thats communist or socialist people have to get over that he won.. He was a better canadit than McCain anyway...and socialist is not a bad thing its different than communist people need to check their facts before speeking....
nationalized healthcare is going to ruing the country. I am studying to become a surgical assistant because the pay is there if you are good. Under his communist system the likelihood of me getting paid anywhere near the same amount goes through the roof. I would drop out of school immediately because it's an insane amount of work and not worth like 17k a year.
hmm...conservatives are greedy bastards true but Liberals aint any better,i mean they blindly follow a person who's only president because of his color who has done NOTHING at all to help this country but cause loss of freedom of speech increased socialist views and is leading America into a sh** hole i'm against both parties, they both = Hate and feed the war pigs
Liberals and Conservatives are both fucking retarded, they want simple idealized answers to complex problems. Their leaders are puppet men. They are both left overs from a post WW2 political thought that has long since seen its best days.
@Alexreb92 Name one way Obama has curtailed your free speech... name one way, I'd like to hear it. Obama helped me stay on my parents health insurance until I turn 26 in two years. Two years of health care is reason enough for me to thank Obama.
@joeymackaroni see what your saying is what i am trying to say to but in a different way your saying that the government would take the money from the people in a socialist system yea that was true in the past as i said earlyier thats not what i want.
@joeymackaroni What i am saying in the world today the big cooruprations are exporting the middle class and the poor and hum are government is being bribe by these cooruprations all i want is to create a Socialistic government that limits the power of the rich and lets the middle class and poor aka the Working class get their share of the pie. A truly democracy
the binni blue flag was origanily used as the western florida flag when western florida tried to befome its own nation. this was in the early 1800's, long before the civil war. after the fall of western florida, the republic of texas adopted the flag for the single star suggesting the "lone star" of texas. texas flew this flag for many years but it was eventually replaced by the modern texas flag. during the civil war, the bonni blue was odopted as a confederate flag.
no i think that the flag we have now was used a the republic of texas flag too...cuz in my history book it shows the flag that teh us president lowered and sam houston cought during the anexiation to texas...and it was the modern flag..so th flag we use now repesented the republic of texas as did the bonnie blue flag
yes you are right. when texas whas annexed the modern flag had been adopted. but the bonnie blue whas the first flag of the republic of texas before it was annexed into the US.
nicorett, I was just about to agree with you until I looked again. You were correct about the Naval Jack. Exactly the same as the Battle Flag except the blue cross is lighter blue. However, when I took another look at the flag in question, I realized that it is actually the Bonnie Blue Flag combined with Confederate Naval Ensign. The " Naval Ensign" differed from the "Naval Jack" in that is was square and did have the darker blue cross.
I think you misunderstood my post, rapiddominace. My reply was to Godfather who asked " What is the flag at 28 seconds." I understand the Bonnie Blue. But the flag at :28 is an odd one and I have never seen it either. That is the onne he was asking about. My reply to him was only a guess, but it makes some sense. But don't know if it's accurate.
I think that flag you are referring to is the Georgia falg but the racist orgainization NAACP had a mental orgasm about it several years ago and they made up that silly embargo on the state untill they removed the Confederate Flag from the State flag. Too bad they did not realize that silly embargo had no effect whatsoever on GA's economy. These racists (NAACP) need to go and find a more worthy issue to tackle rather than create their own bigotry and racism. Case Closed
You could be right, Botsie. But in doing research on the Georgia State Flag, the one with the single white star doesn't show up anywhere. However....during my research I noticed something I had not thought of before. I'm a Texan and of course I knew about the controversy, but hadn't really thought about the new Georgia State Flag. But the ( indeed racist ) NAACP shot themselves in the foot and it is hilarious that they don't even seem to know it. Georgia simply removed the ..........more
Battle Flag/Naval Jack which was never the Confederate National Flag and replaced it with ( you gotta love this ) what is almost a direct version of the Stars and Bars which WAS the National Flag of the CSA. There are some minor changes, but the Georgia State Flag is now almost the original Confederate National Flag. LMAO ! Can't you just hear the NAACP say, " Oh yeah, that one is much better than that nasty Confederate Flag they used to have. " Salute, Georgi. I love it.
Yep, and knowing the NAACP, they probably aren't even aware of it.
The stink of the whole thing was that the governor of Georgia had the flag changed WITHOUT a vote. From where I stand, the governor is a public servant, meant to serve the people of his state. The flag of Georgia belongs to Georgians, not to him, and if it is to be changed, the people of Georgia have the right to decide what banner will represent them.
yup. Georgia has one of the largest black populations out of any state. Atlanta is 65% black. If the flag was really a problem it would have been changed years ago. The flag was never the issue. Just the advancement of NAACP members at the expense of the people.
"bears" a single star ...

2TRanch 1 year ago
@2TRanch Each individual state governing itself and just how does that differ from what we have now? If you think a politician at the state level is any different then those at the Federal level you are in a dream world. You will get the same thing just on a smaller scale. The real problem with this country is the wealthy or corporate world run it not the politician. It has always been that way since 1776. Goggle "war is a racket" see what I mean. One of the disadvantages of capitalism.
686204 1 year ago
@686204
It will differ in the fact that if you don't like the laws in your state, you can move and still call yourself a citizen of the nation the states are in.
TheBoberton 1 year ago
@TheBoberton Again I ask how does that differ from what we have now? I am totally confused with your statement. When the Confederacy was formed it still had a federal government and a state government. If you moved from one state to another you were still dealing with the same fed government. Just what is the difference the wealthy of any nation or state run the country and their interest is in making money they don't give a dam about you and what you want. Why do you think we fight wars
686204 1 year ago
@686204
TheBoberton 1 year ago
@TheBoberton I understand fully what you are trying to say but it seems the Confederacy failed in the very concept you describe. Some States actually threaten to pull out of the Confederacy over disagreements with their President. Taxes were ignored and the draft system was thorn in the side of most states. In fact from my view point the Confederacy was viewed as being no better than the Union when it came to state rights. Just can't please some people I guess when they are looking for utopia.
686204 1 year ago
@686204 You need to remember that the Confederacy was born from war. They had not had the time to put ANYTHING in place. From the secession to the end of the war, that was all they could do.
The union however, had had EIGHTY YEARS to set itself up.
TheBoberton 1 year ago
@TheBoberton No if state rights takes priority over a central type government like the Confederacy or the Union then you are always going to have disagreements. The thing is instead of going to war to resolve them you are suppose to use the true democratic process available. Even then when the final results are in someone is not going to be happy with it. However, that is democracy you can't please everyone within a state or within the country as a whole.
686204 1 year ago
@686204
So if the federal government will end disagreements? I find that hard to believe.
I never said to go to war over disagreements.
Not everyone is happy with anything.
Do you enjoy having a "The most powerful man on earth"? I don't. No one person should have that power.
TheBoberton 1 year ago
@TheBoberton The most powerful man on earth Maybe there are some that would disagree with you. Even so you and everyone that votes has the power to remove him from office. The federal government may not end a disagreement on its own but we have a Judaical system that can make decisions on disputes between a state and the Federal Government. The people also have the power to vote out any politician it feels is not working on their behalf.
686204 1 year ago
@686204 A decentralized nation has a judicial system as well. In fact, the Confederacy was exactly the government the constitution was meant for:
A government where no one has too much power, and where the states are sovereign, yet united.
TheBoberton 1 year ago
@TheBoberton My point was that government (s) in a democratic/capitalistic country are not the ones we have to watch. It is Corporate America and their lobbyists who manipulate governments be they State or Federal. I don't think your utopia of Sovereign states would turn out any better they are all run by Politicians who cater to the wealthy not the general public like us. But everyone is intitled to their own dream world so dream on.
686204 1 year ago
@TheBoberton Also we have (freedom of the Press) the media newspapers TV etc that can make it rough on a government that is not acting on behalf of the people. Politics is politics it's up to the people to keep them in line not Corporate America and their lobbyists! In my opinion that is the present problem with our Country we've let money and greed influence the decision making of our government Both Federal and State.

Liberator1812 2 years ago
To Mr. Tango,
The Americans, and to some extent us Canadians, have a very cut and dry propaganda ridden explanation for the conflict.
IE. the North was for freedom of all races and the South was for slavery.
When you have that much official US jargon in your history accounts, indeed it becomes hard to talk about because of the race/slavery issue.
It was like any war, fought for money and power and freedom from x,y,z.
Liberator1812 2 years ago
as an Englishman, with a great interest in the A.Civil War, I find that so many Americans North and South in origin have difficulty in discussing it,
replying things like "well it happened a long time ago" or "its just history" or basically no reply at all.
Is talking about it somehow taboo for the bulk of Americans.
Your civil war has very, very important reflections here for the possible creation of a US of Europe, in particular states rights, sensible comments only please
tangodancer1603 2 years ago
As a 59 year old Southern, who grew up with the Daughters of the Confederacy in my elementary school, we were proud to be of Confederate heritage. Then came along the oppressive federal government again, teaching our children it is wrong to proud of the South, the term Dixie can't be used it is politically incorrect. My High School mascot was a Rebel. We thought it appropriate , the school was built at the foot of Missionary Ridge and about 10 miles from the Chickamauga Battlefield.
brainerdrebel 2 years ago 5
So nice to hear about the life of a white man in the south. That bad federal government forcing us to implement segregation, keeping the black man from having the vote and of course to keep everything under control well all that was needed was the KKK. Can't you understand that you are proud of something that was wrong. Read the southern states declarations of secession man it was all about slavery. That is something to be proud of and I suppose you call yourself a christian too.
686204 2 years ago
No, I call myself a Constitutionalist. The states entered into a compact and created the federation. The Constitution limits the federal government's authority. States are free, sovereign and independent countries that formed a Union for self-defense. I don't condone slavery or racism in any way, that was a different era. I am a Cherokee Indian, do you want to talk about racism? We federated, we didn't nationalize.
brainerdrebel 2 years ago 2
Nope being a North American aboriginal I would imagine you have experienced racism first hand. However, If your definition is right and I say if, what is the purpose in having a Federal Government in the first place? And after seceding from one Federal union why form another the CSA? You may not condone slavery or racism but it existed in the south for a long time. Being proud of such a past is like being German and saying you were proud of being a Nazi in the 30's and 40's.
686204 2 years ago
" Distinct States, amalgamated into one as to their foreign concerns, but single and independent as to their administration, regularly organized with a legislature and governor resting on the choice of the people and enlightened by a free press, can never be so fascinated by the arts of one man as to submit voluntarily to his usurpation. Nor can they be constrained to it by any force he can possess".
Thomas Jefferson
brainerdrebel 2 years ago
That statement leaves it wide open for interpretation on where the Federal government fits in. Is there a statement on how the amalgamation of the states is suppose to work with the Federal level. In my opinion while specific on independent state rights it loses it direction on what can and should be done under amalgamation should the state disagree with the federal authority or vise versa. Where does it say you can opt out of the Union if you feel the Federal authority is wrong.
686204 2 years ago
"It is a fatal heresy to suppose that either our State governments are superior to the Federal or the Federal to the States. The people, to whom all authority belongs, have divided the powers of government into two distinct departments, the leading characters of which are foreign and domestic; and they have appointed for each a distinct set of functionaries. These they have made coordinate, checking and balancing each other like the three cardinal departments in the individual States."

iamagiantseaturd 2 years ago
iamagiantseaturd, while you're technically correct, the flag is also a symbol of freedom from oppressive government. To hoist the bonnie blue flag is freedom. That was what secession was all about. Alexreb92 2 years ago
TheTremo99 1 year ago
@Alexreb92
NHSActor 1 year ago
@NHSActor
Stalin, creating COMMUNISM?
HAHA! What a joke!
I'm socialistic, though, not communistic.

As long as people are alive and well, capitalism can do most of the rest.

the binni blue flag was origanily used as the western florida flag when western florida tried to befome its own nation. this was in the early 1800's, long before the civil war. after the fall of western florida, the republic of texas adopted the flag for the single star suggesting the "lone star" of texas. texas flew this flag for many years but it was eventually replaced by the modern texas flag. during the civil war, the bonni blue was odopted as a confederate flag.

no i think that the flag we have now was used a the republic of texas flag too...cuz in my history book it shows the flag that teh us president lowered and sam houston cought during the anexiation to texas...and it was the modern flag..so th flag we use now repesented the republic of texas as did the bonnie blue flag
sbjl08lord 2 years ago
yes you are right. when texas whas annexed the modern flag had been adopted. but the bonnie blue whas the first flag of the republic of texas before it was annexed into the US.

rikki0 and rapiddominace that is the bonni blue flag whit the Battle Flag "Southern Cross" the Naval Jack is a ligh blue cross
nicorett 2 years ago
nicorett, I was just about to agree with you until I looked again.

I love it.
Rikki0 3 years ago
