  • Actually, you don't necissarily have your 'inside' hand too low for the spins, especially if the horse isn't exclusively used for reining. If you put both hands that low, her head would've been a little better, and tuck her nose a little to the inside so she used her shoulders properly :) But very good considering! I've been showing reining for 3 years now and I didn't get any scores until this year, so I think that was pretty decent.

  • LMAO at all the people saying your holding your reins in one hand while CLEARLY you have them in both! good job! way better than i ever couldve done!!

  • @tuyry1 Thank you!!! At least somebody who sees me holding the reins in both hands! Thanks for setting that straight! :)

  • @Cowgwen lol np.. i think alot of people these days are blind. like you are clearly holding them in both :)

  • We are saying that's what you should do for spins and stops. We are saying you don't do it in the video

  • Ok, but how do you mean, how should I be holding them?

  • hard to explain. it just looks kinda awkward but it may just be me tho or the camera angles.

  • @Cowgwen. you hold them in one hand! and the other hand goes straight down, touching the saddle!

  • I don't quite follow. Are we talking 'bout the same video here? Because I'm riding with two hands the whole time... But I will agree that I'm holding my inside hand to low in the "spins". I don't see where I'm touching the saddle though... Anyway, this video is already some years ago, You should see me today :)

  • I thought you weren't allowed to touch your saddle?

Anyway, thank you all for the comments, but as I have written before, I had to ride this horse for a demonstration, a horse I had only ridden the day before for the first time, me still being a beginner at reining and the horse, a lesson horse, not at all intensively trained for reining exclusively, so we were not really a good "team" at that particular time.

  • @Cowgwen You hold the reins in one hand and have your other hand touch the saddle, as horselover said.

  • Please!!!!! I'd like to keep on arguing with you all 'bout this but I'm riding this horse with BOTH HANDS!!!!

If you think you see something else, pls tell me where in the video (min sec), because you are all seeing things that I can't :p

  • you arent even holding ur reinds right. wth?

  • How do you mean?

  • no effence but those aren't sliding stops or spins. notice how when ur horse stops he hops he needs to sit underneath himself and when he spins hes all over the place he needs to keep his pivot foot inplace.

im not tryin to critizise u or nythin im just sayin

  • First of all, it says ATTEMPTED. Second, you should read the rest of my comments, this is not an experienced reining horse, it was the 1st or 2nd time I rode her and had to ride a demo immediately. Thirdly, I was a beginner here myself who didn't know yet what she was doing, which I also said further down!

I merely put this video online because I wanted to show my family who couldn't be there and I had to give the damn thing a name . No offence taken, you are right, but we already new that!

  • Op Manege Magrette(L) Khou van die manege en ik hou van allepaardjes daar xD

  • She has sliding plates...

  • hmmm good job. maybe try stopping before you ask the horse to spin

  • Well, like I mentioned earlier, I was still a beginner here. I've come a whole lot further since then, especially with my own horse. I'll try to post some new videos to show how I'm doing now :) It's really weird that I already knew the basics in theorie but needed months of training to finally get the feeling of what needs to be done. I keep learning new things every day and I can honestly say that back then, I didn't really know what I was doing. Luckely now I do :)))

  • thats good! I have been riding and around horses for six years! and everyday i see hear and learn something new!

  • Thanks dancergirl. Since then I've come a lot further with my young QH. That doesn't mean I'm already there, but I'm starting to feel what to do and even more important when and how :)

Some of my other video's are with my quarter mare...

  • kool

  • yea right now im in the middle of working on a video of me working with cody. training a horse to do reining is really difficult

  • I KNOW! I was training my own Quarter mare with help of my instructor, but decided to put her in training since she's my first QH and I'm not experienced enough yet to do it myself. I really don't wanna make many mistakes since she's only 3 and I intend to reach a high level with her, not to do a lot of competition, but because I'm also taking a course to be an instructor myself and she's got to be my "business card".

  • its okay but im epxperenced too i mostly do reining. Does ur horse have sliding plated on?? also when they spin they should plant on back leg in the sand and the rest should criss cross and they will adventualy spin

  • Yes she has sliding plates on. I know about the hind leg, she can do it, but it had been a while since she had to spin, which I didn't know at that time. Since I haven't done a lot of spinning yet, I don't always feel if the horse is doing it right. Since that day of the movie's, I've taken a few lessons with this horse to learn how to ride her better.

But you may always give me tips on how to perform better :)

  • they actually don't have to plant their hind leg. It DOES look prettier, but I believe that if they do this all the time then they're putting a lot of strain on their hocks. Imagine planting your leg and rotating on it..probably would start to cause some issues if you did it all the time.

    Just my thoughts.

  • You are very right. This is merely a "home movie" of me, riding for the first time on this small warmblood horse. I only put it on Youtube to show my friends how it went and had to give the video a name, to remember what I was trying to accomplish there :). I am an experienced rider, but haven't been riding reining for that long, so I thought it went quite well. Forgive me if it's not that great yet...

  • WTF?? that is not a sliding stop or a spin

  • uh...yes. That is an excellent spin for just getting aquainted with a horse! I have been reining for a while and that's not half bad
