Shame to see another piece of Great British history sat idle & rotting away. It's an utter sin they allowed the Olympic (Titanic's sister) to be scrapped in 1935, think of how much money they could have made with her today! Look at our aircraft industry too, a Hawker Siddely Trident 3B rots at Teeside airport, A Vickers Viscount in Moreton-in-Marsh and all our Concordes now simple meuseum exhibits. Very very sad that our children will only ever get to see the sad ramains of our neglect.
last yr i found a website the owners of the ship had made and they were telling u all the history of the ship , but now i cnt find it :(. i love seeing this ship wen ever we go passed it i cant help but look wishing i knew wt it looked like inside :Lx
Wich part of my statemnet do you consider to be wrong. I am talking from personal experience. I was there when the concrete was poored, I have taken abuse from the owners for walking on the public footpath and I have beeb on the ship a few times when it was open to the public.
@stevef2566 ....Yes I'm brave enough Steve, I was there last Monday but then again I know security lol! Have you heard all the stories etc.? 28dayslater website will tell you
i wna go on this ship and have a look around, trespassing i know, but y not?? im very interested to see the inside of her. anybody fancy a bit of exploration???
If I remember correctly, the owners tried to make too much money too quickly. Then when the owners starting hasting people for walking on te footpath beside it they lost the public backing. Now they need all the help they can get.. The owners have lost the trust of the public. I think re gaining there trust would be a better place to start.
.... you couldn't be more wrong Darren! The owners didn't make that much actually due to hitting brick walls with the council who made it impossible for them to succeed in anything they tried to do. They are still battling to this day.
so sad, the owners should at least have the old duke painted. I think if they set up a charitable trust that they would be surprised at how many people would love to donate and see this beautiful ship restored.
FYI the Hull of the ship was NOT sealed in concrete, info was taken from wiki and i should have known better LOL.
Please some one help the Duke, the longer it's left the more work it'll need. This is a part of British maritime history being neglected. The age of Steam being forgotten. Its VERY sad.
@Jackjones93 ..... Its not sealed in concrete at all only in sand. It is kept looking that way for a good reason to attract the attention it needs in its battle with the council. Noone would be bothered about her if she looked all nice and looked after would they?
If you look for The Duke of lancaster on Face book there is an appeciation society , and a twitter accnt,
