whaa....he is so good....do you know how much a ticket for his concert costs??? here in germany (where I live) costs it more than 100€ !!!!too much for a normal person...
You guys....lolz, just because you hate the Chinks because you're American. Agreed, he does not play with heart because he still needs time to figure it out on his own, feelings of the music cannot be easily taught, but be discovered.
I don't like to see people slagging off the great talant this is Lang Lang. I saw him with the Czech Phil' and he was mind blowing; everyone loved him. Sure, he may be a bit extravagant, but that's his twist I think, looks good.
Last night I heard Lang Lang play the Rachmaninov Variations on a theme by Paganini in Dublin Ireland. He was absolutely fantastic. The audience went wild and gave him a standing ovation. The orchestra was the wonderful Czech Philharmonic.
I believe that lang lang shows off alot of his skills to play. He's like an amateur pianist, if he doesn't do something phenomenal no one's gonna watch it, he would be like everyone else so why go see it? Yundi Li has better tone quality use ur ears to listen to the music =)
You should also use your advice to listen to Lang Lang's music, after all, if it's the listening your after, why bother being distracted by what you see him do in a live performance =)
Just to correct you it is not his music. It is the music of other composer's. He does not compose as far as I know but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
Ya... none of the people who critisize Lang Lang is ever going to play better than him, just like critisizing any other good pianists. So the critisizm just seems so idiotic.
sometimes we have to wonder how warranted a lot of these criticisms are; I know I have some critiques about other pianists, incl. Lang Lang, but I hardly can muster enough musical intuition to absolutely judge them; I am a fan of Lang Lang, but that's not to say there are no shortcomings for him; it just so happens his style matches my perception of what to hear in a piece and b/c I can't do it myself quite yet.
Lang Lang is an over-glorified circus monkey with more emotions than a drama-queen and nothing else. He is a Chinese version of Liberace and should in no way whatsoever be considered a fine Pianist in the Classical world.
Yundi Li, on the other hand, is a pianist with fine Classical attributes and (for those who focus on his gyrations) that's not something he can control. It's a physical disorder, despite which he plays wonderfully.
Yundi Li is very good pianist and handsome too, but Lang Lang just plays better. But I recommend you close your eye and don't look at his crazy head movements, which is sometime disturbing.
Lang Lang is so good! i saw him play this just a few weeks ago at the BBC proms as his finale piece, thts the worlds biggest best classical music festival btw if u r American and hav only heard of pops...watever they are. Its so good if you saw it all the way through, this is just the mad dash near the end. how can a rhapsody be too showy? err let me see, a virtuosic player and a virtuosic piece! tht adds up. Have any of the naysayers seen him live? Lang Lang's up there!
I don't think Lang Lang was in a major competition...he hit the big time without having to do that, kind of like Kissin. There's no denying that Lang Lang is a technical master of the instrument and has lightning fast fingers, but I just don't like some of his stuff--including this piece. Not enough flavor, too much speed for the sake of show, where some of the notes sound sloppy, like they're too on top of each other. That's just the impression I get.
come on guys that's nothing else than shit!! it's an offence to the music, the composers and to real pianists. This man won the last chopin competition after the first price wasn't awarded for years?? there must be something behind...lot of money for the jury!!
why am i an idiot? because i thought lang lang has won the last chopin competition?? or because i say the thruth in affirming that i don't like at all his way to kill the music..
I also heard Gutierrez in the 2nd Prokofiev in London in 1978. Absolutely wonderful as was everything else (unfortunately not much) I ever heard from him. Also a very nice, jovial guy.
i think he is a very good pianist my favorites are horace gutierrez formal teacher of manhathan school of music in new york he played the best prokofiev no 2 i ever heard my favorite cuban this guy i like the russian pianist arcadi volodos very good too but after all this 20 years i been waching pianist i like van cliburn and rachmaninoff this are my pianist
LOL. I'm no great pianist myself but man, he's funny. Love the effects, looks like a pop concert. Love his facial expressions and gestures too, man, it's just absolutely touching. Excellent for people who like to watch classical (ish) music.
Its my god given right and everyone else to critisie I believe in free speech. I will watch and give my opinions on what ever and whoever I like! and if they dont like it then thats tough, they will have to live with it and I am sure they will manage to do that.
both lang lang and yundi li suck.. in different way. yundi li played his schumann's carnaval without "paganini" in his recitals in toronto, vancouver, london and most probably everywhere... how could this happen. and lang lang.. oh well...
thanx to you, more famous than you know! but seriously, he has his own interpretation, i have an opinion! all im saying is, hes not as good as some people think he is.
achilless - you are talking crap.it is lang lang. also why do you despise him?... partially okay?! can you do it one better? even if that was the case i doesnt make this rendition bad.
I like Lang Lang's interpretation of the Rhapsody over Hamelin's. Even through listening to the short exerpt of Liszt, to me he creates more than the technical requirements of the piece.

Lang Lang is not even in the same category as Yundi Li! I agree with 29622...Li is better in every possible way.
abushakra 5 years ago
I'm sorry but Lang Lang is a joke. He is all technique and no substance. Yundi Li, who is about the same age, is better in possibly every way.
And yes, I have seen him live. It was pretty bad.

He is just fast ( really fast ). I've seen much better. Just look at his left hand.
